Cbox Name: MantisPsycho
Nicknames: Elle, Meryl, MGS you know the drill
Main Account: Psycho Mantis
Who else do you play?: Psycho Mantis
How did you find us?: by hacking into your mainframe
Category: Video Games
Name: Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System, or GLaDOS
Alias: GLaDOS
Age: unknown
Ranking: Neutral with evil tendencies
Physical Appearance:
Personality:
GLaDOS' main reason for existence is to perform tests. She's not really evil by herself, but she has a tendency to get rid of test-subjects in a rather unconventional manner, by burning them to death.
GLaDOS craves for total control over everything she's in charge with, and will get rather insane when she loses that control. One test-subject managed to break free of that control, and it caused a near mental break-down for GLaDOS.
Her intentions are good, and all in the name of Science, but her means are sinister and somewhat evil.
Furthermore she has a wit about her, insulting the test-subject in a manner that makes even the gravest of insults sound sweet, or sometimes even naïve.
She has somewhat of a god-complex, and because of that, she's quite narcissistic. She sees other life-forms as lesser worthy, as they are expendable in her eyes.
However, despite her passive-agressive nature at times, she has some sort of respect for people that has to go trough her tests. Because after all, they're offering their lives for the name of Science.
Powers/Abilities:
Since GLaDOS is a supercomputer, she runs the whole of Aperture science with her own mainframe. She runs everything that the laboratories contain. Turrets, manufacturing lines, data being processed, it's all to her disposal.
She also has the power to release, or contain her test-subjects, which causes her god-complex.
In the future, to make her mingle with a bigger audience on this board, she will be able to get into the outside world using broadcasting signals, internet etc.
Equipment:
A mainframe with crazy amounts of data. Turrets, cubes, Test-chambers, rocket turrets, laserbeams. She's got it all.
Oh, and neurotoxin, lots and lots of neurotoxin....
Psychological Flaws:
GLaDOS is still a computer/robot. Even though she has human-like feelings to some extend, she can't comprehend the will-power of humans to live. In her reasoning she thinks it's better to give up after testing, because the lives of people will be meaningless unless they're contributing to science. She has a habit of underestimating them.
Having a euforism chip built in, she gets a kick everytime a test is complete, pushing her to make her subjects test more and more, up to the point it's getting addictive to her.
Physical Flaws:
Since she runs Aperture science, her reach can only go so far. She can try to influence people outside of the compound.
Since the Aperture Science facility also consist of testing areas built in the fiftees, and has never been updated after GLaDOS' 'birth', she can't see into those areas, as well as the catwalks that connects these rooms.
Other Flaws:
Brief History:
GLaDOS started her life as Caroline, assistant to Cave Johnson, founder of Aperture Science and Laboratories. While trying to invent new means to make life better, Cave invented some bizarre things, with the help of Caroline.
In her pursuit of knowledge, Caroline attracted the attention of Cave, who was intigued by her thirst for Science.
When Cave was dying as a result of one of his experiments, he wanted his mind and personality transferred into a computer. When he realised he would die before seeing that happen, he made sure Caroline would take his place in this daring plan.
Caroline struggled against it, but didn't manage to break free of her former colleagues. After a long procedure, she woke up....as GLaDOS.
Wether she knew what they did to her is not clear, but as soon as she started up, she killed most of the staff by pumping neurotoxin into the facility.
After having a morality core installed, to prevent her from flooding the place with the deadly gass again, she became more docile.
She now exists to test.
Reason for being on AM: To bring chaos! And make you test!
Sample RP:
Another day, another test to be done. Even though GLaDOS had ran almost out of test-subjects, she always managed to snag one from the cryogenic storage. And this one looked interesting. 'Do not test'. Her files said so. 'High tenacity' Looking trough the rest of her ever fading stock of test-subjects, GLaDOS decided that was the best option for now.
Starting up the reanimation sequence, GLaDOs felt that warm sensation she always had right before starting a new series of tests. It was that that made her stand out and above all the other robots in this world. She had feelings.
"Wake up, science needs to be done"
She said to no one in particulair. After all, beside the eversleeping test-subjects, she had no one else to talk with. So learned that GLaDOS was her best friend. There was that one core she had attached once, it wouldn't stop talking, and made her feel bad.
Even though it was somewhat of a compagnion, she was glad the blabbermouth got rid of. It made her feel....bad. A sensation she hadn't felt before, and it wasn't good.
As her impatience grew, she shook the little room where her subject was in, trying to speed up the waking process.
"Come on, these tests don't solve themselves..."
At last, a gasp for air came from the person inside the chamber. GLaDOS was relieved she actually managed to succeed in reanimating a subject. The last ones weren't so strong.... not that it had anything to do with the Aperture Science equipment ofcourse....
