Category: Canon: Teen Titans (Animated Series Version)
Name: Tara Markov (Though she doesn't remember this name anymore)
Alias: Terra
Age: 16 but looks 14 due to being encased in molten rock
Ranking: Neutral
Physical Appearance: one and a two
Personality: Tara Markov, or Terra for anyone who meets her is in a nutshell a paranoid, confused, misunderstood, fun loving, food adoring tomboy who just doesn't want to be hurt anymore. Now that you know her in a nutshell, it's time to get to know her. Terra is a teenage girl who can laugh at things with a bit of humor to it and LOVES food. In fact she's considered as a glutton at times and would probably be able to eat through an entire fridge of food and clean out your freezer too! Very very friendly and hard to not get along with since when she communicates with others who at least seem friendly, especially after seeing her powers in gear, she can be quite the talker. Believing that the Earth is her home, she really doesn't live in one particular area and actually likes it because it's always new faces and new people. Plus the chances are, she'll go to a place and have something to talk about because she's familiar with it.
Unless it's a place she tried to settle down at once upon a time and caused trouble there...then she won't wanna talk about it much or figure out a way to work with the conversation. Being the spunky girl that she is, she can be daring and witty even in the face of danger unless of course she's completely traumatized by it then she'll freeze up and start running like crazy. This girl's `RUN AWAY!` from her problems nature is deep seeded and very difficult to uproot. True, Terra can be very brave and be a super hero sort when the time deems fit, but she can also run in fear when she knows she can't win. Knowing that her powers aren't fully under her control, this bombshell blonde has to work within her means and sometimes that works out nicely for her. However when it doesn't something bad happens and she breaks down when she can't control her powers and has to wait for it to subside before going on the run again. Anyway, she's got a big heart even if it's got a shield around it, just because she's on the defensive for herself (Namely her `deep dark secret` about her powers not fully being under her control all the time) doesn't mean she's shoving people away.
Really she's a warm and tender sort when it calls for it but when someone is being bad and she can figure it out for herself, they better run cause she doesn't like someone she sees as a `bad guy` getting away with it. There are obvious moments where her confusion and misunderstood nature are more obvious than usual, considering at times she's not sure if she can trust someone and when she does something to help herself it might harm others in the process while protecting those she cares for the very most. Not to mention this girl is very tomboyish to the point where she'd rather bump fists instead of shake hands, plus her posture and attire isn't in the girly category. Let alone her mannerisms, she'll laugh at burps and even let out a pretty loud one for herself after a feast. Not even those petite burps but the loud kind that make you wanna yell out how many points its worth! Loving humor as much as she loves food, or pretty close to it! Terra's also a very motivated and driven girl who will stand up for what she believes in and if someone's going to stand in her way, she'll either knock them down the stairs or walk around them so to speak.
Thus making her a formidable foe on whatever side of the team she may be on. Yes she likes to think of herself as a super hero, but she will also help the "bad guys" if they seem to be in the right and not the wrong. Typical bank robbers? No way! But someone trying to stand their own and getting mugged while it looking really unfair and the person doesn't seem to be all that bad? Yeah she'll help because being a hero in her opinion is about helping those in need. Also factor in their motives, if it's to help others then she might help considering her past that she doesn't have so much as a shred of memory from. That's absolutely correct, she has no memory of her past and is back to day one in a way.
So when it comes to old friends and old mistakes, she won't remember at all and in a way...to those from her past she only exists as a memory. In some cases, she has an open mind and that's why she's more of a neutral than a complete hero. When she needs to think, she enjoys skipping rocks a little more than usual. Sure she can be the funny sort who will make faces, chuckle at something amusing, participate in a burp contest, she can also be serious and at times express her sorrow. Her powers are a bit of a touchy subject when it comes to how she doesn't have complete control over them and gets on the defensive. There are also those times where she'll actually break down and cry. Plus she's capable of getting frustrated with others just like any other person out there, however it's mostly in regards to her powers and obvious law breaking that annoys her most.
At times, she'll give talk to herself out loud trying to give herself a bit more encouragement. Despite willing to be friends with people, she isn't exactly surrounded by supportive individuals giving her pep talks to make her feel like she can pull something off, so she's gotta give herself that extra boost verbally every now and then to remind herself: ``Don't lose control``. Unfortunately, Terra has times where she doubts herself and her ability to control her powers since she knows they get out of whack and that's probably one of her biggest faults.
Powers/Abilities: Fairly simple, but let's get down n' DIRTy with it!
Geokinesis/Earth Manipulation - USUALLY, when she's using her power, her eyes and hands will glow gold. How does this work though? Well to put it simply she's able to control the earth around her. Dirt, rocks, mud, if it's earth that isn't refined she has the ability to control it. The possibilities are pretty high up there if she trains her powers enough. Even though she, herself cannot fly, with the use of rocks and chunks of earth she can move it around with the right amount of focus. All in all she focuses her powers on different types of earth and her powers do the work from there. There's also the fact she can create dust storms, avalanches, land slides, and earthquakes. It's possible for her to control lava, but it's difficult for her just like it would be difficult for her to create monsters out of earth. Yet, it can be done if she figures out how. Refined earth like metal would take some serious effort to manipulate. Pretty much the psychic ability to control earthen materials in a big fat nutshell.
Durability...kinda - She can take a beating better than the average person and not get broken bones as quickly.
OM NOM NOM! - .....Terra eats......a lot.....and has an iron stomach. Give her an alien dish and she'll be able to eat it unless it's toxic to humans.
Strong willed - In the past, she's shown to have some degree of a strong will, she chose to join Slade and she chose to turn against her friends, hell she even chose to turn against Slade! So it's not that she's easy to control via mind manipulation, it takes a bit of effort to get her wrapped around someone's finger like a little puppet.
Traveler - Knowing how to take care of herself with the bare necessities, she's resourceful and can probably survive better than a groomed city girl. After all, her main home tends to be in the wilderness, like a cave. Making and finding shelter plus living off the land isn't a difficult task for her. This also means she's fit for running and traveling longer distances than most people.
Good Spy - Once again, in the past, she's shown to be someone who can be a pretty darn good spy. Only because when she believes in the cause, she will do what she can to make it work and gather information. Yup, that means planting the knife in someone's back! ...and sometimes pulling one person away to make sure they don't get hurt. Other than that though she's got skillz in the spy department!
Equipment: A pair of goggles, gloves, backpack full of basic necessities for traveling including a flashlight. No weapons to mention, and she's not poor so she can afford to buy herself supplies and things of that nature.
Psychological Flaws: Definitely got these up her alley!
Lack of trust - Even though she's really approachable and can be nice, the problem is she doesn't really trust anyone. When she does, it's VERY easy to lose and a little more difficult to gain all over again.
Insecurity magnet - Being really insecure probably doesn't help her control her powers, let alone maintain a long term friendship with many people. All caught up in worrying about how she might hurt people and the `what if` scenario when it comes to losing control of her powers. Considering...y'know...a lot of those `what if` scenarios have happened already.
Friendship - Oh yes, this is definitely a weakness. When she makes a friend, like a really good friend and that bond is hard to break...if she turns against them the guilt will eat away at her like crazy at some point or another. This means she can be swayed by friends more so than a threat later on.
Help...me... - It's been shown in the past that when she wants help and it's offered to her she'll do one of two things: Take it or flip out. Usually she'll take it if she trusts the people enough or the offer proves to be genuine. Terra WANTS to control her powers, so if the help is available, chances are she'll take it. Even if this leads her to a life of villainy all over again. This also leaves her vulnerable to persuasion.
"Come to the dark side, we have cookies!" "NO WAIT! COME TO THE BRIGHT SIDE! WE HAVE BROWNIES!" - Obviously she doesn't have a firm belief of what's completely good or bad and can be swayed. Hence why she's neutral unless she makes really good bonds with a side rather than the other. So it's pretty much making decisions in the time and moment. She does have the basic idea of good and bad in terms of the obvious stuff, like theft and murder. But when it comes to things that are in the gray like motives and all that wonderful stuff, she can be a little more flexible varying on the situation itself.
Traitor! - When she has a few good friends that have made a strong enough mark in her NEW memories on the opposing side, she might turn into a traitor. Kinda ironic seeing how she has trust issues as is. Then again she'll even TURN against her friends for the right persuasive deal...and then turn against the person who convinced her to go against her friends...yeah...that's definitely worthy of being mentioned as a weakness considering she can be difficult to trust when/if this happens.
"You can't control your powers!" "...how did you know?!" - HOW INDEED! If she told someone she felt like she could trust, she'll think they told someone and flip out. However, this can also be a throw off to her since she keeps that such a big secret unless she opens up. Varying on the situation will pick out how much of a throw off it is.
P-p-paranoia! - Being as paranoid as she is, it can REALLY do more harm than good, y'know?
"I'll be the judge of that" - Tell her someone's bad and she'll just have to see for herself if she doesn't completely trust the person. Besides, she believes she has to watch out for herself so if she has a doubt about someone or they show to be different than what she's told...well...she'll be the judge of that. This can be BAD because again, she could be viewed as a bit of a traitor for having her own belief system.
Physical Flaws: A very lean build doesn't make her very good at close range combat, nope not at all! This girl has an average body aside from her durability.
Human enough - Even though she can take a punch, be thrown around and blasted, she's still feeling the pain of it all and has no protection against knives, bullets, or any other weaponry. Hell, electrocute the poor girl and she'll suffer as well.
Strength fail - Without her powers, she's strong enough to haul around her backpack of stuff and that's about all. There's no way she can lift a person over her head and throw them! Let alone lift up heavy equipment, that's just out of her league. It's about the same as an average teenager.
Other Flaws: Yup!
Can't...control...it...! - Not having complete control over her powers has caused her to live a life of non-stop constant travel. Natural disasters have a tendency to occur and it has caused a great deal of destruction. Earthquakes, mudslides, avalanches, volcanoes, it follows her like a plague.
Runaway! - Never really being in one place for very long, she's always on the run. This could serve as a problem whenever she makes a friend or connection.
Just because memories are lost doesn't mean they never happened - Even though she, herself doesn't remember the events that took place, other people might. This could cause a great deal of trouble for her if people around her can recall the horrible things she did while working under Slade.
"I've made up my mind!" - This can definitely work against her as much as it can work with her. See, she can be a bit hard headed once she makes a decision and if it's a bad one, it'll take a while for her to realize it.
Brief History: Terra was born Tara Markov, a princess to a small country called Markovia, and whose royal scientists experimented on her and her brother to imbue them with geokinesis (the psychic ability to manipulate earthen materials) as part of a project to create metahuman defenders. Terra escaped and abandoned her country, but, perhaps as a result of this, her ability to control her powers was limited. Living a life traveling around the world wherever the wind took her, mostly thanks to her lack of control. Whenever she lost control of her powers, there were earthquakes, avalanches, mudslides, and more as a result. Regardless of just trying to help, not only did she unintentionally hurt people, they weren't exactly happy about it and got really upset with her. Every time she tried to settle down in a single location she grew fond of she found herself on the run again when her control slipped. Then came the day she stopped on by the city where the Teen Titans reside and found herself being chased after a giant, black scorpion.
Knowing the grasp on her powers wasn't perfect, Terra had to lure it into a trap which is when her life of going where the wind took her on an adventure of finding out the meaning of friendship and what it is to literally betray those who trust you. The Titans see her almost as a lost puppy without a home when they begin to wonder how long its been since she's had a decent place to stay and plan on keeping her. Beastboy seemed to reach out the most of the bunch, especially when he went out to check on Terra and she had intentions of leaving. After a bit of bonding over skipping rocks, he convinced her to stay and that he did! She was even able to show her worth to the Teen Titans through the obstacle course! However things don't go so well after Slade decides to stir things up, when she loses control of her powers while trying to help the team. After a pile of rocks falls on Beastboy, she doesn't try to help him, instead she runs from the pile worried about the fact she lost control...AGAIN.
Soon after she tried to go after and stop Slade herself who busted out an all too familiar object she had to leave behind, her butterfly hair clip. He explained to her how he's been watching her and even knows why she's always on the run. Furthermore that she needed a teacher and the Titans could never truly help her and wouldn't really be her friends after finding out about how she can't completely control her powers. That and how Beastboy can't keep his mouth shut. Sure she didn't want to believe it but thanks to her deep seeded paranoia and confusion, there was a part of her that heard him out...the fact that he could actually help her. After Beastboy finds his way to her, he helps her calm down and regain control and assures her he won't tell anyone. Taking that promise to heart, she cried while being held in his arms finally feeling as though she can truly trust someone who won't turn against her.
Returning back to the tower, that's when she feels as though it's time to take her leave. Telling them its been real, Cyborg stops her from leaving and Terra is invited to become one of them. Feeling happy about it only for a fleeting moment, Robin tells her that he understands she has trouble controlling her powers. Instantly, she feels betrayed and drops the communicator yelling at Beastboy about how he lied to her and told them anyway. Rushing out the door on the run once again, it isn't long before Slade gets her in the palm of his hand once again. Once he gets her in his grasp, he trains her and helps her gain more control over her powers. After vanishing for a bit she returns to the Teen Titans saying she's ready to join them.
Saving their home and getting along with Raven, she can't believe it...they actually trust her and even got her own room. Working with them for some time, all the happiness couldn't last forever and finally came the day when Slade was going to execute his plan to take over the tower. Winning the last slice of pizza was an amazing victory in the T shaped building and then she even got a heart shaped box from Beastboy which was followed up by asking her out on a date on the next day (Which is when she knew things would be destroyed). Taking Beastboy out for the evening so he wouldn't get caught up in the first phase of Slade's plan. The first stop was out of town and to a place called Ben's with really good Apple Pie Ala-mode. Even Beastboy thought it was "the greatest pie in the history of pie". While the Titans were stuck having a battle with over two hundred of Slades robot ninja dudes, Terra and Beastboy were out at a carnival late at night having a fun time.
Right when they were about to share a kiss, that's when Slade showed up and ruined the little date. In fact she was trying to run away with Beastboy to get away from Slade. When all the chaos lead up to the mirror room, it became Terra's breaking point being told that she has no friends. Joining Slade once and for all. At some point, Terra and Slade manage to take over the city and `destroy` the Teen Titans, or so they thought! To sum it up, toward the end after being smacked around by both the Teen Titans when they made themselves known again and then after that Slade for her failure, Beastboy comes after her. She actually begs him and tells him to destroy her since she no longer controls her body anymore.
Trying his best to talk her out of it, eventually she gains more faith in herself and doesn't want to hurt them anymore. For the last time, she turns against Slade and opens the can of whoop ass on him but triggers a volcano in the process not only to save herself but her friends as well. Giving Beastboy a hug good bye, she told him he was the best friend she ever had and sent him off before using her powers to save the entire city and destroy Slade (Hinting off he burned and melted to death in the lava). In turn as the biggest recoil of all, she got encased in molten rock and had a graves stone put up in front of her that she was a true titan and a good friend. This was the end of that spunky blonde traveler. Or so everyone thought. A long while later, she's seen in the crowd wearing school girl clothes indicating she's now going to school.
Beastboy seeks her out and she's got friends too, he spends some time with her trying his best to remind her of who she used to be. To no avail, she has no memory of it what-so-ever...so they both carried on with their individual lives. Up until her powers resurfaced and she was on the run all over again in fear of people turning against her. Once again...history started to repeat itself and she continues to go where the wind takes her!
