Category: Original Character
Name: Tomonari Joshua Niul
Alias: Tomo, Tom, Joshua, all nicknames really.
Age: 15
Ranking: Neutral (although on his homeworld, he is technically a civilian)
Physical Appearance: He stands at a rather average height of 5'8" tall, nothing impresive by any means. As such, his body structure is nothing special either. Sure, he's rather thin, but not verge of anorexic thin, but there's nothing to really note other than that (unless you want his shoe size or something). His skin, for the lack of better description, s closer to a dark gray. His eyes are green, with his hair being brown. As for his hair, simply put, is rather long for a guy. The bangs, however, only reach down to his somewhat thick eyebrows. On each side of his head, is a thick strand of hair, placed where sideburns would be, and are about the length of his head. Tomonari also has a ponytail, held together by a gray armband of sorts, which is about the length of his neck. For lack of better description, the ponytail is essentially shaped like a lampshade.
For clothing, he doesn't wear anything too flashy, and prefers a more modest approach. However, due to the events of being thrown into AM, he only hast one set of clothes. He wears a light blue, long sleeved shirt, which although tucked in a bit, the shirt isn't wrinkle free, and hangs off his pants. Over his shirt is a gray suit jacket, although it isn't buttoned up in the front. Tomonari wears a forest green pair of jeans, which are held by a brown belt wit ha gray buckle. His shoes are mainly white, and instead of being tied like usual shoes, these are zipped up. On each shoe, two thick, horizontal stripes are present. The shoes themselves go about two inches up his leg, which allows Tomonari to tuck in his jeans. Across is shoulders is tan, leather satchel with the actual bag resting on his left side (speaking of which, he's left handed).
A much needed accessory is a pair of thin framed, black glasses, which he wears all the time for the most part, for the sheer fact that his vision sucks. A black case is inside his bag to hold them just in case. On his bag hangs a somewhat dirty looking frying pan, which is the one he uses for fighting. Two books are in his bag as well, one being a rather heavy novel, and the other, his math textbook. A couple pens and pencils are zipped inside the side pockets of the bag. In his bag is also a couple cooking spoons, a knife (which is kept safely from harming anything), another frying pan, and another pot for cooking. A couple other things are included, such as his standard, government required ID, and a student ID for school.
Personality: The main trait that he displays is his timid nature. Tomonari usually stutters around most people, scared of more or less everybody. He generally remains quiet around others though, and intstead tries to not talk except for a few words at most. Although it's rather obvious that he's trying to lie, since he can't lie to save his life, Tomonari will still try to make something up in order to not talk with someone. However, this action he doesn't do too often, and is really for when things start to get too uncomfortable for him. If someone he's close to is around him, like his godfather, Tomonari will generally hide behind him or her. With this timid nature of his also comes the fact that he is usually worried or paranoid about something.
Even with how he normally acts, Tomonari is a rather polite and honest kid. No matter if someone is an enemy or something or the sort, he will generally try and not be rude to he or she. The downside to this whole polite deal, is two things. For one, he tends to overly apologize, and sometimes even start to panic if he messes up. Though this is the result of the first downside, Tomonari also, despite wanting to try and help someone, worries that he'll mess up and hesitate before doing anything, or even not do anything at all. Generally, this whole polite business is to not get anyone mad at him, though this doesn't really work sometimes, no matter how polite he is.
His biggest problem, perhaps, is his more or less addiction to reading and studying. This habit is not out of him wanting to be better than anyone else, however. Instead, Tomonari does this in order to make sure his godfather doesn't worry about him, though he is always holding a book in his hands pretty much everywhere. He generally does not go outside much, and stays in his room or somewhere quiet to read or study. Though this is mainly studying, Tomonari has become partial to reading, though when it comes to fiction, he loves reading detective novels, which also extends to detective based movies. What he doesn't know, however, is that this sort of addiction to reading worries his godfather in reality.
As for other likes, Tomonari enjoys cooking. It's his favorite sort of chore to do, and has taken quite a few classes regarding cooking, planning on making it his major once he reaches college. Becoming a chef is his number one priority after general education. Though he hardly plays it anymore, baseball is something that he is quite fond of. He used to play it for a couple years when he was a kid, but stopped at one point. If he is not reading something while in his room, he tends to have a baseball in his hands, sometimes throwing it up and down into the air and catching it occasionally.
Powers/Abilities: His main form of offense is PSI, which is essentially psychic powers. However, it does not only include things such as telepathy (which he does not have), it works more along the lines of what would be magic from other worlds. As it is psychic, PSI requires energy being created from the mind of the user. Here is a list of his current PSI as follows. It is listed under the base title, and then the power levels that come after it. Note however, that he does not have access to some PSI as of yet, and this list will increase over a long period of time:
PK Water-
PK Twister-
PK Freeze-
PK Nova-
Life Up-
Healing-
Offense Up-

Although not exactly an out of the ordinary power, Tomonari can also run faster than the average person. It's not super speed or anything, but it helps. Also, even though being shot, stabbed, and what not can be lethal if done correctly/too much, the humans on his world have also gained more natural defenses against attacks from digimon, although the average human can resist rookie/child level attacks moreso. As such, Tomonari's power is equivalent to a rookie digimon for the most part.
Although more for if he runs out of options, Tomonari's speed also allows him to unleash a few kicks in a couple combos, and if he's lucky, some aerial moves. However, each kick by itself is not all that strong, so the only way for these kicks to be effective is for him to get multiple attacks into a combo.
Equipment: As of right now, his only equipment that he can fight with is..... a frying pan. No, seriously, that's what he fights with. It's a standard one, although separated from the pan he uses for cooking. Using a frying pan allows him to focus better when using PSI abilities in battle, despite the fact that his close combat power with it is weaker.
---Note that he can also use baseball bats, with the opposite effect. Since he needs to focus on actually holding and swinging it, he has a harder time focusing on using PSI.
Psychological Flaws: His timid nature is perhaps his top physical flaw that can be seen quite often. He gets scared of things rather easily, and as such, tends to hide and/or run away from new people and creatures, unless of course, said person or creature is not too hostile. Although with his timidness is also his habit of being honest. He pretty much can't lie for the life of him, and so, might not be too reliable in secrets. However, he does try to change his words so that he's not lying, although it's still obvious he won't tell someone things.
The next flaw comes from memories and feelings for his now deceased mother. When he was younger, Tomonari had a tight bond with her, and it devestated him when she was killed. When she is mentioned, he tends to get upset, and scared even more than his timid nature usually says. There is also the fact that in his bag, is the Mr. Saturn plush doll his mother had sewn for him. He has a tight bond with this object as well, seeing as it's the only thing he really has left of his mother. If he lost this plush doll, or see it destroyed, well, he won't take it lightly.
Finally, there is a mental issue from his world called Complexio Disease. This disease affects about 84% of all PSI users from his world, and Tomonari is no exception. Essentially, if his emotions go haywire, it has a harsh affect on his PSI. Not only does his PSI power increase, but it becomes uncontrollable, and in some cases, powerful creatures can be manifested and harm others (note, this is not SMT: Persona related for the most, just so you know). Luckily, these outbreaks are extremely rare, and Tomonari has not had one. However, that doesn't mean he won't in the future, as there is no real cure at the moment.
Physical Flaws: One of his main physical flaws is his lack of any real physical power. Because of this, he can't lift a heavy object. His physical defenses are, well, just plain suck as well. He can't take a hit for the life of him. Speaking of which, as he is still human, cuts, sickness, burns, and so on affect him quite a bit. Also, since his vision sucks, if he loses his glasses, well, say hello to Mr. Cripple. Not just Mr. Cripple, no, as Tomonari can be a bit clumsy sometimes, and run into people without noticing. Aside from just the clumsiness, he seems to be an accident magnet....
Other Flaws: His PSI powers do have limits, and as the psychic powers involve his mind, there are a couple things to be aware of. One is that the stronger PSI attacks, such as those of the Gamma level, put more strain on his brain than say, a weak Alpha level PSI. If he uses them too much, it can result in some horrible headaches, meaning that the more strain on his brain, the larger the headaches. Headaches gained from abusing his PSI can result in Tomonari being unable to battle, and unable to use any PSI until he rests ofr a significant amount of time.
Although dangerous at times, the fact that Tomonari is book smart, and not street smart can be rather comical. He goes by information he reads from text books and what not rather than life experiences, so surviving on his own, especially in the city, is not exactly easy. That being said, there might be some upsides to the lack of street cred knowledge............. right?
Brief History:
World Explanation-
To start off, the name of his world is Valhabound as a common name. For those with more universe associated namings, it would be called Andromeda, Sigma Z93, where Andromeda is the galaxy it's actually in. The planet itself is about 70% the size of Earth, with it being separated in half by what is known as the 'Middle Ground'. The Middle Ground is a purple-ish colored fog that is about two hundred miles high, but only thirty miles across. It separates Valhabound into the 'material plane', where the humans (and vampires, as those exist there as well) originate from, and the 'digital plane', where digimon originate from. However, unlike most worlds that involve a human and digital world, both planes have existed since the world's begining.
Since it is impossible to enter the Middle Ground, or exit it for that matter, by going through the fog, certain portals exist on both ends of the world to allow access to the other plane. As of the present time, hubs of sorts where made to make not only artifical portals to and from each plane (although these portals are still highly limited), but to keep the natural ones stable. Aside from this, from what would be the poles of each plane (since each only have one, and it's easier to think North and South poles like on Earth), extends a long tower that reaches about sixty miles high on each pole, but actually goes through the Middle Ground without much trouble. However, as such, nobody has been able to enter, except with the help of whoever runs this tower.
As for the inhabitants, it was a shock when humans and digimon first met (the vampires preferred to keep to themselves), but any issues between the two sides were resolved far into the past of this world, of course, not without wars, but that's a different tale. So, these races coexist with each other, and has become commonplace, with cities and what not being built on each plane. As for the current time, this entire civilization is still in modern times, despite the portal stabilization, which allows transportation between both planes (which again, is only limited, and the portals do not grant access to the outside of this world). That's really the gist of it.
Tomonari's History-
To start of basically, he was born on the material plane of his world, both of his parents being human. His parents were a a Lutralian (equivalent of Indigenous Australian) man named Dane Cahal, and a Chirean (equivalent of being Japanese, Chinese, and/or Korean) woman named Satome Cahal (last name Yamagishi before marriage). Tomonari was born in the town of Briso, Lutralia. His father was a security guard for a building in town, and had to work multiple shifts quite often. Because of this, Tomonari spent more time with his mother, and as a result, grew a rather strong bond with her. Granted, there wasn't much that he he could have done with her, being so young. This also caused Tomonari to not want to go near anybody other than his mother, for the sheer fact that he was shy from day one.
Over the course of the first five years of his life, nothing extremely special happened. He merely met other family members and what not on special occasions, as well as a couple family friends. One of these people was a Leomon named Ferghus Niul. This digimon, as a matter of fact, was Tomonari's godfather, agreed upon by both of the boy's parents. However, his services as a godfather were figured to not be needed, especially since Ferghus was in the military, having no plans of leaving. Aside from this, there is a certain something that Tomonari shared with his mother, which he still has to this day. That object being a Mr. Saturn plushy, which his mother had sewn for him. He treasured this object, not exactly leaving anywhere without it.
When Tomonari was five years old, he and his parents went out to dinner to meet up with a couple family friends, Juan and Brenda Sanchez, who also had a two year old son named Noe. Of course, Juan was also a military friend of Ferghus, who also went along (not that he was very social mind you). Still, the dinner itself went by smoothly, and after the whole thing was said and done, it was about time to leave. However, when they were outside, Tomonari's mother had noticed a Gazimon who seemed to be having trouble with something. That something being the ability to digivolve, the reasoning behind the sudden urge to unknown at the time. As such, when the Gazimon forced it to happen, he digivolved into Raremon, which although wasn't what he was going to become anyways, forcing it caused him to go crazy.
At first, Tomonari's parents decided to go and help calm down the crazed monster, but for some reason, due to how forced the digivolution was, the Raremon was much stronger than was supposed to be. As a result, Tomonari's parents ended up both being killed, even after it was obvious that they couldn't fight any longer. The digimon went after Tomonari next, but Ferghus, as he was still there, rushed in and took the attack. Even though he didn't do much, Tomonari managed to help the Leomon fight off the Raremon, who in turn, was defeated, and reverted back to Gazimon. Once he recovered from the short blackout, the Gazimon looked around at what happened. Seeing the two dead bodies, and an enraged Leomon, the rookie digimon became scared, and fled the scene. Luckily for him, Ferghus was stopped by Juan before the Leomon even attempted to kill him.
From this point, things changed drastically for Tomonari. For one, since Ferghus was his godfather, the boy was essentially adopted by the digimon as per the duties of being a godfather. In order to make this occur, however, Ferghus has retired from the military, taking Tomonari to live with him. From this point on, Tomonari lived in the digital plane, in a city called Motherboard City. His godfather took up a job at the port as a fisherman, also gaining mother from whatever pension he received from the military. For almost a year, however, Tomonari was frightened of the Leomon to the point where he wouldn't even go near him most of the time. This made things rather difficult, although once that year was passed, Tomonari began to put his trust into his godfather, nearly the point where he was attachted to him, like Tomonari was with his now deceased mother.
For the next two years after that, Tomonari began to adjust to his new lifestyle. His timid nature grew, however, with him hardly talking to anyone other than his godfather. It wasn't too serious, however, as he wasn't a problem child or anything like that. In fact, when he was eight years old, the boy, after a bit of hesitation, asked if he could play baseball on a team. This wasn't a problem, and Tomonari found his place on the team. He wasn't an exceptional hitter, the most he ever got being a double, but he was a good runner it seemed. Although not often, he was also a somewhat decent pitcher, filling in if the main two weren't available to pitch. This went on for a good four years, which made things somewhat easier, especially when living in a city.
However, when Tomonari was twelve years old, it appeared as though school seemed to be catching up quite a bit. Worried about this, the boy made a somewhat drastic decision. He stopped playing baseball, and aside from school, focused on his studies to the point where he hardly left his room. This became worrying to Ferghus, although he let it slide. It was fine for a while, but there was a point where Tomonari realized something: there was only so much he could study. This worried him as well, although he began to pick up other books in his spare time. These books became detective novels, which he grew to love. Since the boy also was during various chores around the house, he had time to be in the kitchen. This created his love of cooking, and this love became his passion to become a chef.
As three more years went by, with the same schedule happening over and over again for the most part. When Tomonari was about thirteen, his godfather occasionally took him to the port to help out with selling whatever fish his godfather and crew caught. Since Tomonari was sitting in a stand for a few hours, he did start to smell like fish, although this was a detail that wasn't too worrying. Otherwise, nothing major happened, except for when he was fifteen. For his birthday, his godfather took him out to get a puppy, which Tomonari had picked out a husky breed puppy (it's a siberian husky, although it's just called a husky in this world). The teenager named it Galahad, and of course, he was now responsible for the dog, unless something happened.
However, something did happen, and that something was extremely recent. While walking to the food store one day, a strange disturbance occurred. Now, portals to and from the digital and material planes weren't troublesome, but this portal wasn't friendly at all. A spacial disturbance initiated, and Tomonari was essentially dragged into the portal, which closed once he was fully in. There were other witnesses that saw this, all just as surprised. Nobody knew where it would lead, but even though it wasn't known, Tomonari was thrown into: Afterhour Mayhem.
Reason for being on AM: His main goal is to try and find his way back to his homeworld, having been thrown into a strange world without warning. However, his plans could change, as in this type of setting, his innocence retained from childhood is on the line...
Sample RP: (Rather recent post I did on a Persona site, also another version of the same character.)
He patiently waited for the boy to respond back, although Tomonari remained silent for some time. Still, he nodded in response, understanding that people do get sick and what not. It was something out of his control, although in a sense, he could help take care of someone's medical health to an extent. However, that wasn't a concern right now. Even though the upperclassman said it was really his fault, which it was, Tomonari still felt as though it was his own fault. Having a mindset of taking things as his own mistakes was going to cost him, but that would also have to wait. Tomonari adjusted his books a bit more in order to get a firm grasp on them. He didn't exactly read any manga, but that was not because of his father's opinions.
Jumping a bit in surprise, the teenager heard the other boy speak his name. Nodding again, he responded back, "I-I'm Tomonari Cahal. I-It's nice to m-meet you." One thing to note, was the lack of honorifics and terms such as 'sempai'. It was really due to the fact that more than half of his childhood was spent in Australia, where it was all english speaking for the most part. However, that would not stop him from being respectful, albeit, in his own words more than anything. He was also not one to cry to his daddy if anyone rubbed him even slightly the wrong way, although his father's presence was rather large, both physically and in personality. Probably physically moreso than anything.
Looking down for a moment, he tried to think of what else to say. He wanted to just get out of here and get home, just to make sure his father didn't worry about him. At the same time, it would have been rude to merely cut the conversation short. "S-So, a-are you okay? From r-running into you, I-I mean..", he said, managing to at least say something. Just as his father resembled a large, powerful lion, Tomonari seemed somewhat like a scared little cub at this point.
