Name: Barry Burton
Alias: Barry, Cheesy Dialogue Man, Captain Red Vest, The guy with the beard and magnum
Age: 51
Ranking: Law Enforcement, in teh B.S.A.A.
Physical Appearance: Barry is a big man, that's for sure. His somewhat advanced age, combined with all the stress of his life, has worn him down and he seems a little...off from what he would otherwsie be, but he still remains built like a brick wall. Even with his slight stooping posture from old age, he stands at six foot tall, and weighs in at a hefty 200 pounds, the majority of which is still muscle, if not even moreso now with his fervent need to keep bioterrorism in check and keep up with the younger agents and prove he can still remain active. Most of the time you'll still see him in his old STARS gear, bright red vest included.
Personality: Barry is rather simple. Always has been, probably always will be. It's really not all that hard to figure him out, if you pay attention. He's a good man to his core, and would never do anything 'questionable' to get things done the right way if there's any other way. Even if that way would make things take much longer or make the situation more diffucult. He'll flat-out refuse the questionable route, and stick to his refusal, unless something comes up to change his mind. Which brings us to our next subject.
Barry's stubborn as a mule. Some have even joked it might be the other way around. Regardless of which is true, once Barry makes up his mind about something, it stays made up. Regardless of what happens. He says he'll solve a problem? He'll solve it. He says he'll get something done? It'll get done. He says he'll kee pyou safe? He'll do just that, or die trying. Of course that means he also sticks to his word, and is a prime example that chivalry isn't dead. He's a bit rough around the edges from the stress and trauma brought on him by a certain event and person, but he's still one of the best people to have at your back in a situation going to hell.
Powers/Abilities:
Equipment: Barry's got a gear loadout to make any soldier jealous. His love and knowledge of weapons, plus his status as the weapon supply man for STARS and later for his squad with the BSAA has seen him get his hands on just about every type of weapon you could imagine at least once in his life. And he still has access to a vast majority of them to this day, and can get his hands on the things he doesn't have access to readily enough.
Despite all that arsenal, Barry has a typical loadout as follows:
Psychological Flaws: Yes, the big man has a few weaknesses going on upstairs.
Physical Flaws: Oh yes. The Burton man has his share of physical problems, too. What may they be? LET ME SHOW YOU, MY GOOD PEOPLE!
Other Flaws:
Brief History: ((Not taken from the RE Wiki, but from another awesome site that I happened to run across.))
Barry led a decorated 16 year career in numerous branches of law enforcement and the U.S. military - including S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons and Tactics) and the United States Air Force. During his time in the air force, he served in the same unit as Chris Redfield with whom he participated on several missions together. His exceptionall knowledge of firearms reinforce his skills well beyond that of what is needed to exercise his trade. His sense of justice became very developed over the years and he is very close to his family, of whom he always carries a photo of everywhere he goes. In 1996, Barry joined S.T.A.R.S.-- the newly established Special Forces unit of the Raccoon City Police Department. He also regularly went on fishing trips to the neighbouring town of Stoneville with Robert Kendo.
After the establishment of S.T.A.R.S in 1996, Barry was appointed to the S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team, with his personality and experience making him an ideal candidate. His role in this position was to act as the weapons specialist of the team, as well as BUM (Backup Man). Thanks to the grants provided by Umbrella, Barry was able to order customized guns for the S.T.A.R.S. team. In order to do this, he regularly contracted his close friend Robert Kendo to make these weapons. Thanks to Umbrella, Barry was able to order and specify an immense range of advanced weapons, such as the M92FS Samurai Edge and its variations. He also took up responsibility for the maintenance and resupply of firepower for the unit. His good nature quickly earned him the trust of his team mates.
Just before the infamous Mansion Incident, Barry ordered a weapon called the "Raging Bull" from Robert Kendo. Sometime before he was dispatched, his beloved family was kidnapped by Albert Wesker, who revealed his intentions during the incident to Barry in order to use him as bait for the other S.T.A.R.S. members. However, Barry was misled by Wesker who claimed that his family was kidnapped by the Umbrella Corporation. On July 24, 1998, Barry was dispatched into the Raccoon Forest along with the rest of Alpha Team to investigate the disappearance of S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team, who had disappeared during their own investigation into the mysterious deaths occurring in the Arklay Mountains. During their search, Alpha Team discovered the crashed helicopter that had been used by Bravo Team. Barry, along with Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Joseph Frost and Captain Albert Wesker, proceeded down and found the remains of Kevin Dooley, the pilot for Bravo Team. Shortly thereafter, Joseph was attacked and killed by groups of Cerberus - dogs that had been infected with the t-virus. Facing overwhelming opposition, the surviving members of Alpha Team - including Barry - made their escape into a mansion; the Arklay Laboratory.
During the incident, Barry acted primarily under Wesker's orders, almost killing Jill in the process. However, with the thoughts of his injured team mates at the forefront of his mind, Barry quickly regained his sense of justice. The fact that Barry's family were kidnapped by Wesker alone ensured their safety. Along with Jill, Barry managed to escape the facility moments before the self destruction sequence reached its end along with Chris and Rebecca Chambers.
Immediately after the Arklay Incident, Barry proceeded to move his family to Canada before intending to join up with Chris Redfield in Europe in their investigation into Umbrella. However, with the media frenzy surrounding the viral outbreak in Raccoon City, Barry felt compelled to repay his comrades for forgiving his betrayal, feeling responsible for their current predicament. Barry commandeered a civilian helicopter to rescue Jill Valentine from Raccoon City. Waiting for the U.S. Army to lift their seige of the city prior to the impending missile strike, Barry established contact with Carlos Oliveira and managed to arrive just moments before the bombing at dawn of October 2, and managed to rescue both Jill and Carlos in a rescue that nearly cost all of them their lives.
Reason for being on AM: To kick bioterrorism in the face repeatedly until it stays down, and to do what he can to help his friends out.

- Strongman: Barry's built like a brick wall. Always has been. Thirteen years ago at the mansion incident, he was as strong as Chris has pushed himself to be now. That's only been honed further due to his self-imposed rough lifestyle. He's done things such as easily knock a door completely off its hinges, and does just as much damage to his enemies with his bare hands as he does with his guns, more of than than not. He's also the type to literally pick up an injured teammate, and haul ass without slowing down at all from the weight. Oh also, woe unto any human-sized t arget who decides to get in his way when he's got somewhere to be; they'll all get bowled over or just knocked aside. Same can be said for any doors. Barry doesn't stop for such silly obstacles.
- RUN, BARRY, RUN!: When Barry needs to cover some ground in a hurry, he's capable of putting on a burst of speed you wouldn't think possible. For a brief while, Barry can blaze a trail at an impressive speed. It tires him out and he can't keep up that much effort for long, but it's usually enough to get him out of harm's way. Even if he's mostly exhausted and can't run much more, if at all, once he's out of trouble.
- LIGHTS OUT!: Barry's definitely strong, this is true. But he can't put any of that to use without knowing how to fight, can he? During his time in the police and military, and later his time in S.T.A.R.S., Barry trained diligently in the martial arts, and picked up enough skill to be a respectable enough fighter. He's no expert, that's for sure, but he's still good enough to hold his own against most opponent's he'll be fighting.
- Good Marksman: Barry's a good shot; that's all there is to it. He's not to the masterful level of planting a bullet between something's eyes as Chris, but he's still damn good. After all, when you've gotta hit targets that keep moving after you've put six bullets in 'em, and are more often than not moving a little quickly, you develop some marksmanship skill like that. Hes' especially good with 'heavy' weapons, and can control the recoil of such remarkably well to keep his accuracy to a maximum.
- Military Training: Don't put Barry down just because he's not an expert. He DID spend sixteen years training in both S.W.A.T. and the US Air Force, and even then more time in S.T.A.R.S. and on his own time. He's got years upon years of experience dealing with all sorts of trouble and chaos, and he knows his way around a BOW or two, and can plan out a workable plan of attack if he has to.
- Good Intuition: You'd be surprised just how often Barry's intuition helps him out. He's more likely than not always got just the right weapon for any situation he or his teammates will run into. And he'll often insist on his teammates taking a particular weapon or piece of equipment with them, and they'll usually wind up thanking him for it when it turns out they need it at some point. He's just that good.
- Gun Fighting: Barry's got some skill in using his guns to beat the hell out of things. He's quite liable to pistol whip you if you get in his way, and he's even shoved his gun in the mouth of a zombie or two and blown their brains all over the place. All in all, a gun in Barry's hand is just another weapon.
- Beretta 92F/FS, Samurai Edge: Barry Burton had a heavily customized version of the "Samurai Edge." It fired .40 S&W caliber bullets and featured a longer barrel and compensator for increased accuracy and stability. It's noteworthy that this Samurai Edge is not based on a 92FS like the other versions of the weapon, but rather a 96F and 93R models (hence the .40 caliber chambering). Houses an impressive staggered column 30-round clip, and is capable of using a single-column 15-round clip at need, as well.
- .44 Colt Anaconda, Silver Serpent: A .44 magnum, and Barry's preferred sidearm. It's insanely powerful, as most magnum-caliber handguns are, and is capable of taking down most targets, human or BOW, in just a few well-placed shots. Chambers six rounds in the style of a six-shooter.
- Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle: This is normally only employed when there's going to be the need to plant bullets in targets over a long distance. Carries a ten-round box magazine and has a nicely zoomable scope, too.
- Mines/Grenades: When he needs to, Barry'll use these commonly, too. Proximity and trip mines, which release a fragmentary blast upon explosion, he's usually got one or two of on hand when he thinks he'll need them. As for grenades...he'll have either fragmentation, incendiary, or flash grenades. Should be obvious enough what they do. He uses them as he needs them, simple as that.
- Melee vest: You didn't think someone like Barry, as gung-ho as he is about caving in your face with his fist, was going to leave himself unprotected, did you? Oh nonono. This is a durable vest, built to resist things such as knives and other things, and work just as well at providing some added protection from the claws and teeth of any BOWs he'll run into, as well.
- Bulletproof vest: In the event he has to fight human targets, or even BOWs or whathaveyou that use firearms or projectile weapons, he also has a bulletproof vest. True to his role as the weapon suppler, Barry has had his modified, and it's even more protective than you woul normally find in a bulletproof vest, making his torso virtually bulletproof to conventional firearms....until it gets worn down from too many bullets, of course. And then there's those pesky high-caliber firearms which tear through it easier, too.... Hey, it ain't perfect, but it does the trick.
- Combat Knife: When his fists won't do the job in a brawl situation, or when he needs to just stab or cut something, Barry's also got his combat knife on hand. Long-bladed and built with an ambidextrous grip so it can be used in either hand in emergency situations, it's proven its worth numerous times.
- Ammunition: His guns won't do him much good without backup ammunition for them, now will they? To such an end, he's always got more ammunition on hand. In fact, he always seems to have far more than he'll ever need, and is liable to throw his spare ammo at those around him who need it.
- Arsenal: As previously mentioned, Barry is a weapons man. This means he can probably procure just about anything for a mission; this is just his 'standard' loadout for most missions. You should never expect anything less than this loadout, but always be prepared to see more.
Weaknesses
Psychological Flaws: Yes, the big man has a few weaknesses going on upstairs.
- "Don't....leave me!": Barry's a big man, and in the face of any adversity he'll be the first to get out there and start caving in some skulls with his bare hands if he has to. But when all the chips are down, and he's injured or hopelessly outmatched, he's actually a massive coward at heart, or at least extremely afraid of dieing. When he's wounded or in a situation that seems "hopeless" he's liable to break down into a big blubbering baby and just try to get the hell away from whatever's going on. Of course as soon as he's in good condition again he'll be RIGHT BACK IN THERE again, but still, it's rather unfortunate.
- Family man: Barry's quite the family man. Any threats to his family will strike a particularly sore point with him, and may just bend him to your will if you're the evil type. He'd do just about anything to keep his family safe. Just about anything. He even went so far as to kill off his former teammates in STARS when Wesker had kidnapped his family. Speaking of that...
- Guilt: Barry's plagued with guilt over what he did under Wesker's orders. It torments him constantly, and it's one of the driving sources of his fervent desire -- his need -- to still be out there in the field, taking care of any and all threats he can get his hands on. To this end, he tends to push himself far beyond the physical 'breaking point' of a normal man, especially at his age, and refuses to leave anyone behind if he can help it, which often puts him at personal risk in so doing. Compound this with his inner fears of being alone and dieing, and you have a tightly-knotted mass of insecurities and mental issues.
- "Wesker...you'll get yours...": Barry both hates and is terrified of Wesker. Completely and utterly so. He wants nothing more than to see Wesker finally defeated, b ut can't actually bring himself to confront the man himself. In the event that Wesker is involved, Barry will wish his teammates all the luck in the world, but that's one he'll sit out if he can help it.
Physical Flaws: Oh yes. The Burton man has his share of physical problems, too. What may they be? LET ME SHOW YOU, MY GOOD PEOPLE!
- Just a human: Despite all his training, and all his weapons, and all his physical power and resilience, Barry is still just a human. As such, he's no more resistant to any forms of injury than any other hardened soldier-type.
- Old man: Let's face it; Barry isn't getting any younger. He's in remarkably good shape for his age, yes, but still, he's about a decade past his prime, at the least. It's only going to go downhill from here. As such, he's not quite as tough as he once was, and he's more prone to serious injuries than he once was.
- "Never was that quick....": Even in his prime, Barry wasn't the fastest runner out there. He can put on a surprising burst of speed over a short distance, sure, but in the long run....he's one of the slower runners. Not really by much, but it's noticable enough. Especially over longer distances.
Other Flaws:
- Really, Barry...?: Barry has a habit of spouting ridiculously cheesy, sometimes unnecessary lines from time to time. why is this even worth mentioning? Because it will more often than not COMPLETELY kill the serious nature in the situation at hand, and often put himself and his teammates at unnecessary risk for the few seconds they're 'processing' his ridiculous banter.
