Name: Ada-May McKenneth, Mutant G18282
Codename: Adamanta
Age: 17
Ranking: Heroine
Physical Appearance: Ada is a Gamma-type mutant, which is to say that her mutation has affected her physical appearance in such a way that she cannot blend into normal human society. She is just over eight feet in height in normal gait, and with her shoulders square, she is four feet wide. She weighs nearly half a ton – 750 lbs in a calm state, and much more in varying degrees of Adrenal Reaction. Because of a distortion in epidermal pigmentation, her skin is a distinct light blue color, and her bodily hair has turned a soft pastel pink color.
Because of her overactive regenerative properties, her bone and muscle structures have hardened, thickened, and grown outward in unexpected ways, seemingly in pursuit of adaptation. Most notable are bony deposits that sweep backward from her temples to frame her face – a pair of curving horns that cover her temples. The purpose they serve is assumed to be protection for her head, but it isn’t an exact estimate of their function. Regardless, they are of sturdy, extremely dense bone and insensitive.
The outward facing edge of her spine has hardened into a series of interlocking plates colonized by muscles, reinforcing her entire spinal column. Adamanta’s spine and muscles have extended well past the hips. The heavy plates thin and become rubbery cartilage, supported by muscle groups not present in unmutated human beings that form a skin-covered tail that assists in balance and acts as a prehensile appendage. At base, this appendage is three feet in length, but she can extend it to up to nine feet at limit.
Her gait (at base only) is bipedal, despite the deformation of her feet and toes into clawed, digigrade appendages. They do not bear any semblance to human bone structure. The unique shape and adaptations let her stand comfortably and maintain grip with the claws and leathery pads.
Despite this, she retains a mostly human facial structure of pacific-islander features, save only for her horns and her ears, which have elongated and become mobile. She can, however, be easily recognized in pre-transformation photographs. In addition, she has retained much of her original bodily structure aside the reinforcements and effects of her mutation for reasons unknown.
Clothing has proven problematic. Conventional synthetic fabrics are out of the question: she can’t don them herself without destroying them, despite their size – she is too strong, and doesn’t have enough control to manage it. Garnments of tri-weave polymer composites have been requisitioned in C-14 detainee yellows, reinforced at the knees, shoulders, elbows, and hips – and even so, these need to be mended at least once a week or so.
Personality:
((Excerpts from her C-14 and C-16 dossier))
Ada is a seventeen year old female. Numerous socialization experiments and psychological evaluations have been conducted, and she has been deemed nonhazardous to others. She has willingly submitted herself to these tests, her physical examinations, and her cooperation is noted in other areas as well.
Adamanta is well-spoken and courteous to peers and containment staff. She can be relied upon to keep her living space clean. For this, she is allotted two daily requests – which are often used for cans of Cola (no preference appearant).
Despite good behavior, she shows signs of a guilty conscience about the death of Alex Nestron, the death of whom she was convicted for and contained in C-14 for in the first place. Her legal sentence was finished at the end of last year, but she agreed to remain a resident in Containment Facility 14 under government surveillance for reasons of public safety, waiving 19-C of the Metahuman Rights act.
. . .
The events of October 31st 2011 at 12:40 am in the C-14 High-Security Containment Vault have allowed her circumstances to change; She has been deemed fit for parole, reclassified as no significant threat to public safety, and is to be released (once arrangements are resolved, EST 1 week.) Ada has received the Warden’s commendation for acts of selfless courage in the face of certain death, and the Red Aegis for the rescue of surviving personnel… and a twelve-pack of pepsi.
((Less formal please!))
Ada isn’t a terribly complicated person. She’s got blood on her hands and it weighs like lead on her. The teenager was a bit of an introvert to begin with, But after the accidental death of her boyfriend at her hands, when her mutation first developed. She busied herself – kept her containment cell clean, kept herself from thinking with the tests and throwing herself into perhaps finding a cure. Of course… there’s never going to be one, let alone that will work on HER. That says a lot about Ada though – when something is bothering her, she occupies herself to keep her mind and hands busy, and it kept (and still keeps) her from falling into despair.
She has an adoration of Cola – as far as soda goes, Cola is the bee’s pajamas in her opinion! RC, Coke, Pepsi, Faygo, she loves it all with the undying passion of a thousand fiery sons. You could go so far as to say she’s a cola enthusiast! She takes her cola seriously – is serious business!
Ada never was one to be violent. She never meant to hurt Alex – she loved him with all her heart. For a long time, she resolved herself to being a prisoner at C-14 and accepted her fate completely – only here could she be where she was supposed to be, only here could she atone. She’s always been quiet and kind-natured, and befriending the guards who didn’t always treat her well at first, that was a natural step for her – it was, and is, simply her way.
She never knew she had a heroine in her, aching to help people. When she saw Blood Archon in the prison, having slain the rest of the prisoners and most of the guards and employees to increase his powers, something… went snap inside her. She took on the warlock, possessed by a terribly fury she never knew existed – a warrior was born that night, and she swore she’d never use her powers to further herself… but to bring down bastards like Blood Archon. The last time she’d killed, it was an accident – it was someone she loved. In her heart, ending the life of one truly evil madman who killed because he enjoyed it, it put Alex Nestron to rest, gave her closure. At last… she no longer needs to stay imprisoned for her sin. Now, she can do something, she can use her gifts to help.
Powers/Abilities:
((Taken from her MCA G-1 standardized assessment))
. . .
. . . Ada’s primary mutation is G-Type Regeneration. This aberrant healing ability is beyond the understanding of modern science. It is noncarcinogenic, but it is malignant as well; her body appears to be growing and mutating further with no sign of a cease on the horizon due to this over-active natural healing factor. It is not speculated, however, that these changes will cause brain damage. . .
. . .
. . . Adamanta’s condition is most hindering because of the physical strength she possesses, resultant of her muscles healing and expanding steadily over several years, even as her muscular structure has changed. She has great difficulty controlling it for the safety of others. Weight testing saw her easily heft ten tons – the upper limit of her strength is unknown. . .
. . .
. . . To adapt to increased size and needs, her body has developed a second heart resultant from a splitting of the primary, situated opposite the original, and her lungs have doubled in efficiency. Several other organs and glands within her body have multiplied and become more efficient in their tasks, increasing her stamina far above human limitations. These enhanced metabolic processes make better use of all intake, while wastes, hormones, and other materials are carried, used, or disposed of with equal enthusiasm. . .
. . .
. . . Because of these processes, and because she heals so quickly on a cellular level, her body is proven resistant, if not immune, to any pathogen, viral agent, bacteria, chemical compound, or poisonous substance she has been tested with. It would take some very efficient nano or very deadly agents indeed to give her any trouble for long.
. . .
. . . Adamanta’s unusual legs give enhanced grip and pushing ability, utilizing thick bone claws and leathery pads to enhance traction. The way her weight is situated over the center of her body and the aberrant structure of her ankles, toes, and digits, combined with her strength, let her reach a top ground speed of eighty miles per hour, faster if she uses her legs to bound. She can achieve leaps impossible to a normal human being, and with speed, run across sheer surfaces for short distances, leap from them, etc. . . .
. . .
. . . a tail that appears to assist in balance in her new gait. Control of it as it has developed appears to be instinctual, but she has been seen extending it by several feet by apparent muscle action to assist her in manipulating objects. It is as strong as her other appendages, and she seems to have quite fine control over it – Asked, Adamanta describes its control as a bit like moving the tongue. . .
. . . Ada’s bones, in response to changes in her body and encouragement from her gamma mutation, have thickened considerably and become far more dense than is normal for a human being. She can at least use her own strength without fear for breaking her own bones. In addition, several human frailties have been mitigated by this thickening – her horns cover her temples and seem to help protect her head, while her scapulae, pelvic joints, and vertebrae have thickened and changed in shape – protected by heavy bone plates . . .
. . .
. . . enhanced structure and colonization of muscles on and around the ear canal allow Ada to rotate and move her ears to catch sounds, while extending them several inches, affording her keen hearing at least six times greater than a human’s. . .
. . .
. . . observed while fighting the warlock Blood Archon to be moving and defending herself while she shouldn’t have been conscious, let alone able to stand. Part of Adamanta’s head was cracked open, and she was impaled upon one of the warlock’s blood spikes through the neck and likely part of her spinal column, but she managed to pull the spike out and dodge the blow meant to crush her head. She sustained several such injuries in the fight. . . tenacity is uncanny. . . part of a secondary nervous system? Perhaps her body is relating messages chemically by other means? It is unclear. . . It is speculated she can only manage this when in later stages of Adrenal Reaction. . . .
. . .
. . . demonstrated to varying degrees during her capability assessments adaptive reactions to fight or flight situations. Her mutation appears to be sympathetic to her adrenal reactions, and numerous parts of her body react unusually to adrenaline. Two stages of this so-called Reaction have been documented in the formal tests. Stage 1, called Alpha State, is achieved under normal circumstances – She increases in size by ten percent, she appears to be capable of faster reaction times, and both her physical strength and regenerative properties amplify. The second stage, Beta State, was achieved in higher-stress scenarios. She increases in size another 20%, and her fingers curl, growing heavy bone talons. Her spinal and scapulae plates push through her skin. Her horns grow in size, and several bones otherwise of these harden. Her tail grows in length and develops similar plating near the base, and her gait becomes semi-bipedal. Able to move on two or four limbs as convenient for her. Again, another increase in her physical strength and another amplification of her healing factor further from Alpha state. . . Delta State was discovered in Adamanta during the events of the C-14 containment breach, when she fought Blood Archon. The warlock taunted her, and killed several containment personnel to torment her when she was recovering from an injury he inflicted upon her that he had estimated lethal, despite her healing ability ( severance at the hips from the lower body). Adamanta rose to Delta state – she became fully quadruped and increased an additional 30% in size beyond alpha and Beta, and her body heat began to cause water inside of her to rise as steam. It appears she does not have her full mental faculties in Delta state – she is in a “red mist” state, overwhelmed by rage. Because her body heat is so high in Delta, she cannot maintain it for long – she quickly dehydrates herself and goes unconscious, but her body produces a lot of heat. Several guards described that even being close to her in this state fatigued them – Blood Archon only withstood a few blows before he showed signs of extreme fatigue as well. In addition, her breath showered him in gouts of steam, causing burns and blinding him. Coupled with her apparently greatly enhanced strength and his inability to inflict any lasting harm, and he was helpless against her. He did not survive the conflict with Adamanta in Delta state.
Equipment:
Psychological Flaws:
Miss Niceguy: She’s heroic by nature, and she’ll hesitate in the face of innocent deaths, heinous acts, and she’ll go out of her way, even at the risk of her own life, to save people – just because she must. Any evil bastard worth their salt knows how to distract her or provoke her.
Pulling Punches: Only in certain circumstances would Adamanta fight to kill – an automatic disadvantage, since she puts the lives of others in front of her own, in fights where it IS life or death.
BLAAAAARGASHWUGGUHMUHGLAAAAH!: While stage Delta is IMMENSELY powerful, she’s not herself. Hell, she’s barely conscious – she’s in perpetual, searing pain and blinded by rage and a will. To. Crush. Ada smash!
Brains, brains, I know thee not: Ada is still a human being, tough in mind and body as she is, and however far removed. Her mind is not invulnerable to psychic attack – no more than anyone else’s. At her core, there is a wide-eyed youth, living in a plastic world, and she’s not all that happy.
Ada smash?: She doesn’t mean to.. but she doesn’t have a STRONG/NOT STRONG switch like most people with that kind of power. She’s strong… ALL THE TIME. She lives in a very, very fragile world, like a bull in an antique shop, looking quite sheepish in a pile of glass. Does she mean to break off car doors when she opens them? No! Does she mean to crush her precious cans of cola? No!(!!!!), does she mean to dent cars as she walks by with her tail? No!
COLA! *POUNCE!*: Ada loves cola. Oh how she loves it. It’d take somebody who knows her to try and distract her with a sixpack of coke, but… it’d work, in theory!
Physical Flaws:
Pseudovulnerable: She’s not easily defeated, let alone killed, that’s a fact, but that doesn’t mean she’s truly invulnerable. Damage to the brain will do funny things to her for as long as it takes to heal. Harm to her hearts or lungs will weaken her, rob her of stamina until she can heal them. Damage to the spine could leave her briefly helpless, and more. She’s not bulletproof – she simply heals the damage almost immediately. She’s not proof against explosions – she simply doesn’t blow up very well. She’s not immune to poisons, she simply shrugs them off quickly. I think you get the point. You’d have to make a day of it to kill her, but it can be done. Overwhelming force, liberally applied, is the key.
Fire: She could recover from being blown to bits, as long as there are living tissues to remain… but fire? Being reduced to ash? No. Being melted in acid and dissolved? No. Being disintegrated, etc? No. There are limits, people.
Pain is still pain: All of that regenerating, all of that rapid recovery from wounds, you build up a tolerance, but you never do quite get used to it. She still feels pain, and in the heat of it, sometimes curses every blasted nerve ending she has.
Ongoing Transformation: With her mutation, she will continue to change… probably forever. For better or worse, that’s how it is. Stuff that DOES manage to make a lasting impression on her, like some kinds of Nano or some really nasty bio-agents, it stands to reason that those things could steer the course of her continued evolution… perhaps for the worse.
Other Flaws:
Did I mention that beneath that giant blue horned demonic looking monster, there’s a shy little young lady who loves cola and misses her family, and hurts when she’s called a monster, a freak, etc? Well, there is. Destiny chooses strange people to be its backside.
Also, she’s not good at expressing herself with words. She can’t curse – just not how she was raised, and she seems… simple in conversation.
Brief History:
Born in a small town called Deersworth, Wisconsin, population 400, Ada-May was born a normal, healthy baby girl – nothing strange about her at all. She was shy, loved school, wore glasses, etc. She didn’t have many friends on account of her lack of an ability to say anything more than “Poot” by way of an expletive (Which got her a reputation as dorky, backwards, stupid, etc), but she was nice to people and brought up properly to be polite and honest.
She grew up with the word normal practically tattooed upon her forehead. She got good grades, and had a boyfriend – Alex Nestron, who was, she was convinced, a genius and destined for great things! In highschool, she wanted to be a teacher… or a scientist… but Destiny has a funny way of handing you fish when you clearly, CLEARLY asked for a turnip.
The mutation set in early – she was ten. At first… it was no big deal – So what? She never got sick, she never broke anything. Then she started to get stronger, and grow – no big deal… that was normal, wasn’t it? She could hide it! Can you imagine the nightmare for a teenager to suddenly start turning blue? She had to be homeschooled – her parents, love her even then though they may have, they couldn’t let her be seen like that, and she didn’t WANT to be seen like that.
Alex Nestron loved Ada though – and he missed her when she stopped showing up for school, and he’d have to go to the prom alone, wouldn’t he? He got her some flowers, he got her some chocolates, he went to see her – who cared if she was blue? Ada was so happy when she saw him!
After the trial, after public sentiment insisted she be tried as an adult, as anti-mutant sentiment rose in the sleepy little town and hateful parents demanded retribution for the “murder” of their beloved son, as Ada’s family was run out of town at gunpoint, and amid no friends, no family, and under the threat of being tried for murder, Uncle Sam stepped in. She was placed under the care of Containment Faciluty Fourteen at the age of fifteen as the worst of her mutations began to unfold.
Ada was a wreck.
She kept herself busy – Did anything she could to keep her mind off of her Alex, complied with every test she could – volunteered, in fact. She was strong – too strong, she couldn’t control her own body… so she learned to do what she could under the watch of the united states government. Even when her sentence was up on her manslaughter charge, she agreed to remain a prisoner, or rather, become a resident – it was determined that she had no intent to harm people, but her lack of control made her a danger to society, and the potential of her mutation to change beyond the means of her mind to control was there. She was to remain a prisoner for the rest of her life. Fine by her.
For the first time in her life as a mutant, she had friends
and family who knew full well what she was – she’d befriended the guards, even the ones who didn’t treat her well at first. Several other prisoners were like family to her. The warden treated her like a daughter. Even if she was a prisoner, so what? She’d never have to hurt anyone again. For the death of the boy she loved, she gladly would stay in the facility forever.
On October 31st, 2011, there was a mass breakout in Containment Facility Fourteen, manipulated into play by the superpowered warlock, Blood Archon. When he was freed, he turned on those who freed them, killing and stealing their powers where he could, and their blood, all to become powerful enough to escape the facility, and take revenge on the men who put him there.
He hadn’t counted on Ada. She was in the deepest security sections of C-14, because her strength was such that she could have broken out of normal containment if she had wanted. She saw what he’d done to her friends, her family, and saw his mad glee at the power he’d gained. She’d never hurt anyone intentionally in her life, she’d never swung her fist before… but suddenly… something inside her went snap, and without a thought for her own safety, a seventeen year old girl took on a several-hundreds year old warlock of fearsome power.
She earned her namesake that night in spirit, and became Adamanta. She fought Blood archon with every fiber of her being, fought through terrible pain and overwhelming injuries, fought him long enough for the guards to escape, long enough to see him destroyed.
Reason for being on AM: Because she’s somebody who can Bump Back.
