Category: Original Character
Name: Kage Kurogane (Formerly Kaoru Takahashi)
Alias: Kage
Age: 35 (appears about 21)
Ranking: Neutral (he does whatevah he wants)
Physical Appearance:
He has violet hair, luminescent yellow eyes, sharp black nails like claws, black horns, a whip-like spaded tail, and large black wings that seem to be made from a black energy of some sort, constantly flowing from his back. Beneath his spiked collar are some strange markings that burned themselves into his skin when he first transformed, as well as a scarred XIII on his chest. No one knows the significance of these symbols, including himself.
Personality: Bitter. He's incredibly bitter. Having had amnesia since his escape from the lab, he's become cynical and untrusting of just about everyone. At least, that's what he likes to make people think. For the most part it's true, but sometimes his soft side can show through when he sees someone down on their luck, just like he is. Or close to how he is... Not many exactly murdered an entire science facility and escaped from it as it sunk in lava summoned by an immortal Chinese magical girl. Moving on. Having spent all of his (remembered) life alone, he isn't one for small talk or beating around the bush. Rarely he speaks, but when he does you'll know it's exactly what is on his mind and his very strong opinion of it. Quite the short temper he's got, too; having half of his DNA warped to that of a demon has made his powers directly linked to his rage. Let's just say you shouldn't pull any strings unless A, your name is Manaka and you know how to handle it should he freak the hell out (or manipulate him more, lol) or B, you're sure you can take on a raging demon experiment meant to be a bargaining chip for conquering countries. He's incredibly easily pissed off by ignorance, criticism, bullying of the weak, and overall doucheyness... Well, doucheyness that's unreasonable. He's quite the douche himself (but only because he's so blunt). There is a single exception to his doucheness and her name is Fubuki.
Powers/Abilities:
Nightvision: He can see in the dark with the sharpness of a hawk as if it were day... However it has its drawbacks in that his vision is hindered to that of a normal human's, more or less depending on how bright it is.
Flight: One of the first abilities aside from tearing scientists apart that he learned.
Brute Strength: He can take a bullet like Superman and deal back as harsh a blow with his bare hands. Lifting a car for him would be like benchpressing the bar for a normal fit human.
Enhanced Hearing: When living people (those with normal lifespans and heartbeats) come near, he gets a slightly unpleasant vibration in his ears. It's much better than the ear rape it used to be before a friend fixed it, however, so it's a curse that he uses to his advantage mostly. He also has really good hearing in that it's near impossible to sneak up on him unless you lack footsteps (or wind hitting you) even without that strange sense of his.
Smarter than your average bear: ... The joke was lost the minute I typed it. Oh well. It isn't that he's smart, he's just fast, jumps high, etc. I can't remember the word for someone who's good at athletics just barely beyond what normal humans can do.
Horns/Claws/Fangs: Not necessarily a power, but definitely things he uses when he fights.
FILL ME... WITH THE POWER OF DARKNESS!: You know that stuff leaking out of his back that forms his wings? That's an endless supply of dark energy. His heart, though it still beats, is literally a mini dark energy factory. No matter how many pieces this guy is shattered into, the dark energy within his heart has the ability to rebuild him from scratch. If you think about it, really his body is only a vessel for the essence of him inside that dark energy to control. However! He can use it as a projectile as well! He can expel it from his body in the form of orbs of dark energy that can be shot at the enemy, and crud will burn like hell, or hit you like a medicine ball flying at 100 mph depending on if you're resistant to darkness.
RAAAAAAAAAGE: Because of this dark energy, however, his mentality can be a fierce battle between humanity and cold blooded killer. Intense negativity in his psyche can set off his balance of keeping things in check and slip into quite the fearsome form. He grows in size, his wings shrinking because he's using much more dark energy than usual, and the whites of his eyes turn black, contrasting his luminescent eyes. More spines grow out of the vertebrae in his back, as well as his joints such as his knees, elbows, and shoulders. The claws on his hands and feet, his horns, as well as all his teeth grow sharper and larger. This is where you either run and hope you have superhuman speed, or you pray for something to calm him down. There isn't much that can when he's like this, and he loses all sense of self aside from the raging darkness taking full control.
Immortality: He's stuck at age 21 for good folks! Comes with the territory of being injected with the DNA of something that's meant to torture sinful souls for all eternity. He can be retained in a state of death if stabbed through the heart and said stabbing object is left there, weakened to the point of being unable to fight for a period of time, etc etc.
Equipment: Nuttin' aside from the clothes on his back!
With his incredible strengths come some huuuuuuuuuuuge weaknesses.
Psychological Flaws:
Fubuki: ... If he remembered her. If he remembered her she would be all kinds of a weakness. The single girl who gave him the time of day when he was human. The girl that he thought was killed in front of him simply to fuel his negative emotions to take the DNA better. The girl he loved. Now just think if she were actually still alive.. Oh wait...
Obsidian Lotus: The fact that they're the same person aside, he DOES remember her in this form. She's the single kind soul that helped him deal with his newfound abilities and gain control. The very reason he isn't locked up in some "holy cage" or something somewhere, she's also the cause of the lava that took down the whole facility allowing him to escape. His chest aches anytime he sees her, well would see her.. You know what I mean. It's gonna happen and his chest is gonna do that.
Rage: Also a strength, but when he loses control he loses all reasonable thought. His movements become more rash, which can be easier to predict or manipulate into a trap. Plus he fights with all his strength not to get into such a state, so even before said transformation he'll be doubtlessly distracted trying to keep ahold of his humanity.
Grumpy: Not the most diplomatic of sorts.
Tragic Past: He's easily manipulated if you know which strings to pull. A certain blonde haired scientist is pro at it.
Immortality: He's been alive still within the normal human lifespan. He's naive and still subsceptible to learning that thing that most immortals learn sucks about immortality; everything around you changes while you can't. People will die of old age and you'll still be the same age you are now to watch them. Most of this doesn't apply too much though, he's mostly a loner himself.
Physical Flaws:
Holy Water and other artifacts: Will burn like no tomorrow when it comes in contact with him. If drenched/kept in contact with the stuff for long enough he can even be rendered human to an extent, writhing in pain. Said objects have to be blessed by an ACTUAL bestowed priest, however. None of those cheap souvenirs from Transylvania guys!
His Tail: Adorable as it is, if it's stepped on it feels like it's being chopped off. It hinders his senses and powers when it's crushed as well, for as long as the foot decides to stay there. A child could walk up to him and poke him, and it would feel like a bunch of pins and needles jabbing him in that spot while his tail is smooshed. Another favorite weakness of Manaka's to toy with.
More Vulnerable Than You Think: Though he'll ALWAYS come back if you wound him, the regeneration will only start when he's been out of a fight for long enough. Guaranteed, a severed limb will stay chopped off until he can get to safety for a few days.
Immortality: Taking the above into consideration, he could be put through the kind of pain humans can barely even imagine and still have to deal with being alive. Imagine being pinned to a wall with all of your limbs scattered everywhere and you JUST WON'T DIE. Ouch.
Light/Dark: The darker it is, the stronger his powers, but the lower tolerance his body has to negative emotion. The lighter it is, the weaker his powers, but he'll be much swifter on his feet and quick thinking. This is going by sunlight, by the way, shining a flashlight on him will probably just irritate him at most. This however, brings up his final weakness...
Other Flaws:
New Moon: No, not the book. Lol. When the moon's shadow hides all of its lunar light, he sinks into his berserk form and if not properly bound, will go by his demon instincts to kill. He has a room in the abandoned house that he lives in with every sort of lock and reinforcement you could think of on the doors, and a binding mechanism with chains and cuffs that is proven his berserk form can't figure out how to get out of (when he's sane again he only has to stretch his tail out all the way to push a button, impossible to reach when madly flailing). He'd wear a straight jacket on top of it, but it'd only tear off.
Brief History: Kage was once a human named Kaoru. Kaoru was the black sheep of his family, his younger and older brothers excelled at sports and did great at everything the stereotypical dad could ever hope for. Stacked on top of being the middle child, he was neglected, often even yelled at for being different. Driven to low self esteem and cynicism, he provoked everyone else around him to bully, since he never learned to hold back what he thought. Later on he grew stronger and could hold his own, but it was too little too late to change his sharp tongue and overall hatred of the human race. He'd be doomed to be a flat out bully himself, honestly, if he didn't have a little Chinese girl by his side, seeing the softness that everyone else used to pick at before he hid it away. Her name was Fubuki, a sweet and gentle child, they had been childhood friends since middle school. Nearing graduation, she continued to put her faith in him and keep alive what little softness he had left. Over the years he had gained deep feelings for her, the kind that you don't see very often of that maturity for a teen. Before he could finally share his feelings to her, she disappeared. Nowhere to be seen at school or anywhere they used to hang out.. On top of that, his family had grown to an absolute worst. This was it. He was going to run away.
With an angry doorslam and a backpack full of as many things he could think to bring in the short time he'd packed, he headed out ready to figure things out for himself. Even if it meant living on the streets, he wasn't going to live with that anymore. It was late evening however, and starting anything would have a time issue. Spotting a soft patch of grass in a park, he figured he could sleep there and started to do so... Then it happened. A sharp pain ruptured in his stomache as he sat up, holding it in agony. He looked up to see three men in labcoats. The one that kicked him appeared more muscular than the other two; the blonde looked like he was running the show. Kaoru stood and fought as hard as he could, but the muscular one overtook him. Not even giving him the benefit of being knocked out, he was bound and thrown into a white truck.
The next thing he saw was the sterile white interior of a space facility, people in labcoats walking everywhere. Suddenly a girl with armor that looked like it was made from obsidian and a blindfold appeared. Fubuki! It was her! He could see right through the disguise but.. Where did she get ahold of something like that? The blonde had taken notice of his reaction to the girl. She was trying to stop them, but was caught off guard when stabbed through the back by the third scientist with a metal pole. Kaoru, needless to say, didn't take that very well. Madly flailing within the muscular one's arms, he still couldn't kick out of them. Manaka, the blonde one, kicked the girl's body across the room with a smirk. Kaoru's anguish only grew worse. Making sure the boy got every angle of her lifeless body as they did so, they carried him to a small, cramped room and threw him in there. Pinning him down, Manaka injected a serum that would make him lose his memories, all but the anger to help feed the demon he was about to become.
Kaoru awoke bound to a metal table, not a memory left in his head (aside from the obvious ability to speak and such). His whole body felt like it was burning. A scientist pulled away a syringe that was dripping a sinister black liquid. Black energy leaked from every orifice it could find as he struggled within his binds, screaming with pain. His hair grew out, turning to an otherworldly violet, his eyes shifting to slits and glowing yellow. His ears grew pointed, horns burst from his head and spines from his back. His teeth grew to fangs and his hands and feet grew black claws. Finally, black energy erupted from his back and took the form of wings and his tail, which slithered out from beneath him. Strange symbols etched themselves around his neck and on his chest, before he flopped back down, seemingly docile again. The scientist that had injected him with DNA stared in fright, but regained composer and approached the newly formed beast. The minute he got within ten feet of him, however...
Kaoru, now Kage's eyes shot open as a terrible terrible noise erupted within his ears. He howled with a much deeper and beast like roar as he started to struggle again, breaking the bindings like they were made of tissue paper. Needless to say, the scientist didn't survive. After a mad rampage throughout the facility, Fubuki appeared again in the armor, but he knew not of who she was. She called herself Obsidian Lotus, and offered to ease the pain that the noise every living being within 100 ft was giving of. She didn't give off an aura, for she was immortal as well. Weening Kage into the noise, he learned to control it and let it ease down to a low vibration to alert him when people were near. As she flooded the facility with lava (he wasn't entirely sure how) she sent him off, where he struggled, but successfully learned how to fly. He took shelter in an abandoned manor that was already rumored to be haunted and cursed. It's where he takes shelter now, and takes on the role of the ghost if anyone dares to try to demolish it.
Reason for being on AM: He wuz born here as far as this canon knows. :B

Still holding her gently, he felt a tear stream down his face. Never before had anything felt so right in a world of confusion and conflicting mentality. After all of those years of living in isolation, never really understanding anything about himself, it all seemed not to matter anymore. Blinking away the tear, he looked down to the receiver of his hug. A slight frown appeared on his face as she apologized to him, before his eyes filled with meaning.
"Forgive you? Takara.. ... I wouldn't be here- ... I wouldn't be SANE if it weren't for you.."
The half demon, having never remembered crying before, blinked back tears.
"I don't remember what happened before I became what I am, and even now I still hate the Bastard who did this," he only swished his tail a little bit to accentuate,
"to me, but because he told me who you were.. I remember after then.. If that terrible screeching didn't stop, I'd probably be trapped for good.. Just what he'd want, a mindless monster."
And with that, he held her closer, gently resting his head ontop of hers. His wings only barely moved a little bit, as if they were meant to shield them from anything that would dare tear them apart. He recalled how she went by a different name from what Bastard had told him, and it all made sense now. Fubuki must have been her guise back then, which is why it angered him so much to hear Bastard mock that name before he even knew the face it was attached to.
"...Xifeng.. Takara.. Fubuki.. I don't care what I call you, as long as you're the same person who meant so much to me so long ago."
He struggled to continue, knowing how painful it could be that he didn't remember everything she did.
"I.. ... Don't remember anything before that day.. But I know I knew you.. I had to have feelings for you, if what he said was true. Just ... Don't go away again like last time."
Poor Kage was blushing again, still having problems trying to say the very words that explained why his heart was reacting like crazy around her, why she was so easy to lower his guard around. Never had he ever acted so vulnerable around a human, and yet in such a short time she drilled straight through all those mental barriers he'd built up for years. It was natural that he wouldn't know right away what all of these crazy thoughts and feelings were about.
((For the record it takes some doing for him to get this mushy! And only Fubuki/Takara/Xifeng/Obsidian Lotus can really manage to do it!))
