Name: Mr. Bitingston
Nicknames: The Jersey Devil (He rather stole the title from the original, but people called him that - he never accepted that name, himself), Old Helljaws (Some criminal elements in Gotham, NYC, and New Jersey know him by this name), The Black Hungerer (As called by the gods), "Boss" (by his brothers, the Raveners)
Age: He is the second of her creations
Ranking: Neutral (He is Eliza's knight in shining armor, so to speak - he's not a nice creature, and not shy about killing, but he is honorable and protective of not only her, but her other children as well.)
Physical Appearance: Bitingston is humanoid, just over ten and a half feet tall, and covered in a bristly coat of jet black. He has a triangular skull, set with two jaws, one within and slightly smaller than the other, full of razor sharp teeth and capable of opening out to 180 degrees of his skull to let him consume larger prey whole. A six-foot long jet black tongue ordinarily curls in his jaws, and is used to assist in the feeding process as a sort of tentacle/extra appendage.
He has ten eyes, set on the sides of his muzzle and the top of his skull, giving him perfect 180 degree vision above and around (but not below or behind) his head, the beady orbs glowing red faintly with inner light, and see perfectly in any light, though they require a moment to adjust.
His build is a touch heavier than the usual lithe and sinewy look of most Raveners, more muscular, with long arms and legs that lend him a terrible sort of agility found usually in a primate, each of his limbs ending in terrible claws made for piercing and grasping - flesh or stone or metal, it doesn't matter. Behind him sweeps a long, lizardlike but prehensile tail that ends in a spine-covered club it uses to bludgeon, but also to fling spines at distances often exceeding sixty feet.
Mr. Bitingston in particular wears a bowler hat of fine black velvet, and he's gotten good at keeping it on his head. He's the kind that would wear a suit and tie, if only he could find one to fit his unusual anatomy. He does wear trousers though - he has developed... rather inescapably masculine traits so that not wearing them is not to be thought of.
Personality: Bitingston is a gentleman and knightly in his mannerisms. He tends to be polite, but beneath that gentle demeanor is a beast. A devourer, by nature, isn't a predator of screaming fury, but of cold, precise death. It is so with the chiefest devourer, even if he is now a Ravener instead. Inside him lurks a vast deposit of feral, wild rage that is as cold and black as the void. Because of this, he is a warrior by nature and by choice, and makes use of that blackest rage in a fight. He viciously defends Eliza, and he is a good person in his way - he will kill without a word if he thinks somebody has to die. What that doesn't sound so 'good'? At least he doesn't play with his food, or prolong the moment of murder like a good cigar. He takes no pleasure in killing.
Powers/Abilities: "Natural Talents": Mr. Bitingston is not only a Devourer, innately larger and stronger than any human, he's also a talented martial artist that has instinct on his side. No member of his species can scrap as well as he. Underestimate his prowess at your peril.
Hup!: Bitingston can lift and hurl passenger sedans - up to a ton and a half, in fact.
Haymaker: Putting all his strength behind a single blow - you do the math. Haymaker? More like wrecking ball!
Macetail: Rather than launching his spines, Bitingston has learned the trick of using his tail like a morningstar fluidly with his fists, claws, and fangs.
Edgecutter: Using his strength and his Warrior Spirit, Bitingston can enhance the cutting power of his claws, like a human might enhance his sword or fists. When he does this, his claws shroud in an ominous reddish black aura
True Center: Part of martial strength comes from knowing yourself. Finding your center slows your perception of time, makes your mind and your body into a single thing - forges you into a weapon.
Stony Hide: It takes a good deal more than a pistol to even pester him.
Shadestep: His Ki, his warrior spirit, is shadow-based by nature, and in the dark, not only is he nearly invisible, but he draws power from the blackness itself. He's exponentially more dangerous in the darkness - stronger, faster, tougher, and able to move short distances instantaneously. Fighting him in the dark is folly.
Tonguetacle: His long, black, rubbery tongue is a tough appendage - it even grows back quite quickly if it gets severed! He can extend his out to fifty feet in length, and it is every bit as strong as any other appendage of his. He, like other Raveners, can put it through a man's chest. Smoker!!!
Spine Archer: With a twisting whip of his tail, Bitingston can launch spines at impressive distances, hard enough to put them through stuff like an anti-armor weapon, with pinpoint accuracy.
Devour: Bitingston can swallow a human-sized creature whole with no difficulty in the least. The interior of his body is at least as tough as his exterior - it takes a lot to get through that hide, and the prey is constantly being sprayed with acid and crushed around by powerful muscular movements.
Vomit: Bitingston's gastric juices are strong enough to devour flesh and bone, and rapidly corrode iron and steel. He can spew it, and anything left in his gut, as a projectile weapon. He is immune to his own acid and can get sixty feet without too much effort - the long, rubbery black tongue helps.
Ultravision: He can see in the dark and in daylight, 180 degrees around and above its head - the only place he can't see is beneath his chin and behind him.
Scurryscurryscurry: Bitingston can scale sheer walls and ceilings with his claws.
Light Eating: One of Bitingston's talents is to breach light and shadow. Weak lights he can snuff, and strong lights he can refine, so shadow around him is absolute and light there is absolute.
Blackrage: When he loses it and rages, he gives off a... vibe. In sentient beings, he provokes primal terror like predators of ancient times, a low, terrifying growl in the dark, a scream in the night. Those of psychic disposition are especially susceptible to it.
Equipment:Extending and pulling out a spine, he can use it as a spear. He's strong enough that he could use a rebar as a quarterstaff, a car door for a shield, etc. Improvised weaponry isn't much of a challenge when you're strong enough to throw cars. Aside that, no - his natural talents suffice so far.
Weaknesses
Psychological Flaws:Bitingston has a terrible, terrible hunger older than he is - it runs deep in his titanspawn heritage, like it does in his mother. If he doesn't eat his fill, he slowly loses his cognitive capacity until he becomes the beast she created again.
Bitingston is a berzerker. If he loses his head in the heat of battle, he is difficult for Eliza to guide, and the black rage streaming off of him like shadowy magma is infectious - when he rages, all his brothers, ravener and devourer alike, rage with him. They won't hurt Eliza or any of her children... but you'd do well to stay far away from them in this state - they get ferally protective of her and their siblings, and while his lessers can be stopped by Eliza... Bitingston, not so much.
He loves his hat. Oh how he loves it. He is obsessive about his damn hat. Want to get him to ease up and talk in the middle of his fight? Hold his hat hostage. Won't always work, but...
Physical Flaws: He has humanoid anatomical weaknesses - the temples, his head, his solar plexus, etc. Everything except kicking him in the fork works - let's just say he's like a dolphin and leave it at that, shall we?
Rapid changes of light and dark mess with any of his kin's sight - He's no different.
He eats a lot. I mean... alot. He can eat a whole turkey for a meal and still have enough room left over for cranberry sauce.
He has trouble speaking - Devourers weren't originally designed to be able to talk (because she hadn't counted on them being able to turn into Raveners later - she hadn't exactly planned them out terribly well). His vernacular
Piercing weapons - spears, rapiers, bows, arrows, these things do better against him than bullets would.
Other Flaws: Animals of any kind instinctively fear him and will have nothing to do with him. A shame - he thinks birds are beautiful and he thinks cat's are adorable.
Brief History: After her foster parents discovered her powers, they wanted to forget she ever existed - to lock her in the darkness. They didn't feed her and left her with her wounded first son - Azure, and threw away the key. Eliza spent almost two weeks without food and water, languishing in the darkness, feeling Azure's pain, knowing they were both slowly dying off in the darkness.
Her mind unhinged in the black - and something... aweful was born from her hands then. Something born of a terrible rage and that starved madness she felt then - and took it from her to take form - the Firstborn Devourer, demonic and ferocious by nature. Before he was Mr. Bitingston, he was a monster of forgotten ages of human history. A low hiss - a dull roar of blind fury in the dark, something from the ancient parts of the human brain marked "primal terror"
Her foster mother was the first to be eaten by this monster. Her father escaped, and returned soon after with a superpowered assassin, to put an end to it. The assassin, empowered with shadow magic, didn't even stand a chance against the black-raging berzerker of a son that Eliza's desperation gave birth to - he, and her foster father, soon joined his wife in the abyss of his belly. Police were called in the commotion - and they fell to him as well. By the time he came around, became a Ravener, he'd eaten ten adult human beings and one police dog... but he didn't harm a hair on the terrified heads of Eliza's foster brothers and sisters the whole time... a first inkling of his gentlemanly nature.
Before they left her home in New Jersey, Bitingston took Eliza's foster father's favorite hat - an oldschool black derby, and so the tradition was started. Since that day, he's acted as her personal guardian and right hand er... man.
