Above all, a person of few words under most circumstances, speaking only when she feels it necessary. Samus is a pragmatist, and despite her tendencies to act without thinking back during her teenage years and during her early career as a Federation Police officer she has become of much more tactically sound mind in the years since then, now putting an emphasis on thought and control rather than brute strength. Fiercely loyal to those she perceives as friends or allies, Samus also has a very strong sense of justice - on numerous occasions this had led to her directly disobeying her orders when in service to the Federation in the past and ultimately her resignation from their ranks, and in the years since then she has taken on a number of jobs pro bono rather than let an injustice or subjugation of the innocent continue. Those who earn her wrath should not take it lightly - she is nothing if not tenacious.
That is not to say, however, that Samus is without flaws personality wise, or that she is the stone hard veteran many might believe she might be if they knew of her past. Hand in hand with her strong sense of right and wrong is a sense of compassion, something that has become something of a guiding force in her life alongside her experience - it was what led her to leave the Federation as an officer, liberate the Luminoth and spare the sole surviving Metroid hatchling on SR388 when her orders had specifically been to exterminate the species. It was also this compassion that led to her salvation on a number of occasions, a lesson Samus is not likely to forget anytime soon, especially after the destruction of SR388. Finally, there is the fact that Samus suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a problem and weakness that she has struggled with ever since the destruction of her childhood home, K2-L.
Friends:
Like her enemies, it is ironically rather easy to become a friend of Samus' - she's not one to actually go out of her way to make enemies. Helping others, whether the aid is needed or unneeded, goes a long, long way towards getting on Samus's good side - assuming, naturally, the people weren't up to no good themselves (which would merely make you an accomplice), and chances are that if you're in a bind she'll be there to help. Once she considers you a friend, though, Samus makes both a dependable and extremely useful ally. While she generally prefers the "lone wolf" approach to her work, she is not above or adverse to working with others should a situation or circumstances require it - those who fight alongside her are often considered close friends if only for sharing a common goal, and despite no longer being a Federation officer and never having been part of the actual military, Samus is quite familiar with the soldiers' bond.
Enemies:
Like with her friends, it is somewhat easy to make an enemy of Samus - a very bad idea and something few sane beings would like, let alone want. Mess with people simply for your own ambition or pleasure, start conflicts for those exact same reasons, or in general get into fights as the aggressor and chances are Samus will have a problem with it, and may a higher power help you if you so much as lay a finger on a child, human or not. Samus was seen as a living legend as both a Hunter and a soldier as early as her teenage years for very good reason (with many of her exploits now viewed as mere myth or propaganda as of her first conquest of Zebes). If you are not one to grant mercy, expect none in return - doing so has been shown to outright enrage Samus in the past, and while she has gained much more control over herself since then, making a fight personal will not go well for those involved.
Romance:
Possible, but highly unlikely. Samus is scarred - not in a physical sense given her skill and enhanced physiology, but she has seen things that no person should ever have to see in a lifetime, and she experienced the brunt of it at the age of three, and then twice and thrice again as a teenager and an adult. Ever since her teenage years hunting the Space Pirates, their allies and anyone else who might harbor similar ambitions or employ similar methods has become nothing short of an all consuming obsession for her. She might not actively seek it with the obsession that she once did in her younger years, but the instant she finds any sign of corruption or evil she will devote every fiber of her being to wiping it from existence - needless to say, between that, her job as a bounty hunter/mercenary and the PSTD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that has haunted her ever since her return to Zebes it is unlikely that the idea of romance has ever crossed her mind.
Other:
Fairly well aware that the above categories don't exactly cover everything, so feel free to speak up if you have any other ideas that can't be placed in one of those categories! I'm open to pretty much everything, so feel free to mention whatever is on you mind, no matter how crazy it is - as long as it's at least possible, I can try and find a way to make it work!
