Part 1: General Rules
Concerning "Made-up" characters
For Original Characters/Made-ups, please don't make them into a carbon copy of another character. Absolutely NO plagerizing/stealing other people's OC's. If you do, I'll slap you up on the wall of shame! And trust me, you WILL be degraded...it won't be very fun at all. Another thing about OC's, PLEASE don't use a well-known character as the picture base!
If anything, recolor them or something. Also....NO MARY SUES OR GARY STUS! Please please please with sugar and gum drops! ONE MOOORE THING, don't have your OC automatically know a canon character UNLESS you communicate with the RPer of the canon character to avoid confusion. If they don't want your character to know the canon they're RPing right off the bat, then that's just the way it is, you can always RP to have your character meet theirs.
Make sure they're balanced out...meaning weaknesses that balance out the strengths. I don't want to see anyone having over-powered characters -_-;
Future kids -> I'm spelling that out with a big N.O unless the RPer of the characters in question are consulted. So, if both RPers agree, you have to realize that your character may or may not continue to exist since the future isn't always written in stone. In the event the couple breaks up to never get back together again or one of them DIE some how to the point of no return, then your character will have to start vanishing x__x. So don't bother applying for a future kid character unless you've already consulted the couple's RPers...which both have to contact me and let me know that they're ok with a future kid.
Power/Ability additions AFTER being approved
This wasn't really clarified and I'd like to point out that NO you cannot add powers all willy nilly without permission. You must wait for a thread or two to clear up since we want to avoid people adding powers just so they can win, be all powerful, stupid stuff like that. We, the staff, also reserve the right to pull powers from characters to even the odds in general since something may seem too ridiculous. Also, keep in mind that with new power, we may expect new weaknesses or flaws. If you plan on your character learning a new power during a thread, you must inform us before the thread even starts so we know you're not just pulling stuff out of no where.
Weakness additions AFTER being approved
For clarification, you don't have to let us know if you're adding a weakness. Mainly because it isn't as if you're buffing up your character, but making the character more vulnerable and possibly fair.
What series we accept and won't accept
Yes, we understand that this site is a MASSIVE MULTI-UNIVERSE crossover but there are some series/characters we just won't accept. Such as if a character is much too strong for the majority and not a team/group of heroes/villains can't even take them out by working together at the very least. That or if the character(s) you're interested in are in a strange time frame that doesn't quite fit in with everything else. We're also not going to accept a lot of Disney stuff because let's face it, Bambi doesn't stand a chance. Sorry! I love Disney...but their cute, defenseless talking animals? It's just not going to happen in this setting! When in doubt, please for your sake and ours, ASK THE STAFF about the series and character you want to include on this site! Honestly, all of us here at Afterhour Mayhem would hate for you to work hard on a profile that we can't even accept. Another note is we're never EVER going to allow Haruhi Suzumiya, she's literally godly so no don't bother thinking about it. (I didn't make a mistake! This rule really is mentioned twice) We'll have more details on the actual character list. Our arcs may open windows for new series and such C: Such as futuristic & so on so forth that don't currently fit in our time frame, so if we like something but don't allow it at this time that you suggest TRUST ME we'll most certainly consider it <3 We're more a `case by case` scenario sort of site so PLEASE ASK IF YOU ARE CURIOUS ABOUT A CHARACTER OR SERIES!
POWER HOUSE TYPES....THIS NUMBER'S GOING OUT TO YOU <3
All power house types MUST have a power cap. Meaning your character can be strong, we like a good challenge here! HOWEVER we DO NOT(shit just got real. I underlined and used caps) want you folks making your characters insanely difficult to beat. If it gets to the point of being ridiculous, you'll have to do a power cap and possibly even nerf your character's abilities a bit just to remain fair. AGAIN. We don't mind characters with a lot of power, just make sure it's UTILIZED WITHIN REASON. There's a difference between having a lot of power and going absolutely bonkers with power.
Going absolutely bonkers with power is just going all out with the character's strongest abilities and what have you among other things. Thus, things stop being fair all together. However, having a lot of power is "This is what my character can do! It doesn't mean my character's gonna have a field day with all of them to the point where it's ridiculous, but just a heads up that they're capable of all that". If we, the staff, have concerns that your character might go haywire with power, we'll mention something. If the community has reservations about your character's potential power usage and it's brought to the staff's attention, it WILL be discussed with the RPer who has a character that seems potentially all powerful and unbeatable.
On another note, powerful characters are given on a trust basis. We, as the staff, reserve the right to nerf characters based on previous RPing. We don't want to see anyone choosing an ultra-powerful first character, as well.
PLEASE address your concerns to the staff first and we'll work it through to avoid intense amounts of conflict.
MORE CONTINUED SO PLEASE. DO KEEP READING. PLENTY OF FUN TO GO AROUND!
I want my character to help with plots and arcs! ...but I'm not a staff.
That's great! I love it when characters that belong to regular members have potential to aid in a main focus sort of dealio! Seriously! However, BIG PLOTS need to be reviewed by the staff and anything major MUST be ok'd. We gotta play it fair and more importantly keep it fun for EVERYONE, not just one person or a clique of characters. You know the power cap and such I mentioned earlier regarding powerhouses/OP types? I don't mind them so much if they use their powers & utilize them to make things interesting for plot devices that make things interesting and FUN. No one wants a plot that ends in a dead end, no one at all. But with that said and out of the way in the name of Captain Obvious, brainstorm with the staff or even post your ideas in the plot discussion board! I want you guys to have fun and encourage working with the staff as well as the community to make something entertainingly awesome to RP X3
YOU....YOU GUYS ACCEPT WEB COMIC CHARACTERS! What about OCs based on web comics?
It....really depends. Inquire with the staff prior to apping a web comic type character to see if it's gonna mesh. Next, make sure you check with the staff if an OC is ok if that's the route you wanna go. Characters from the Homestuck series, for example, will be ones we're fairly picky about both canon and OC-wise.
WHAT POWER POTENTIAL CAN BE MET?
What does this mean? It means what power extent will be met for characters and how they affect others. This is determined by the staff to avoid arguments and head butting. The mechanics for the universe here are DEFINITELY not always going to be the same for the series a character may originate from. So the staff will decide that when the problem arises. The outcome will be based neutrally & no favorites are gonna be taken when the results turn up. Whatever the verdict is, it's because we the staff believe it'll be far more fun, fair and benefit the site. So if there's a problem, let the staff know and we'll be the mediators, review both sides, discuss, then make a beneficial decision. We graciously request that you folks are patient with us during the process C: The staff wants to be fair to everyone, after all.
NOTE. The staff can and will step in and say "We'll handle this" regardless of requesting our help or not just to keep things from going haywire or out of control.
I'M APPLYING FOR A CHARACTER....ARE THERE RESTRICTED POWERS?
This is HEAVILY on a case by case scenario. See, we allow an ARRAY of powers, but your character SHOULD have weaknesses to balance them out. I don't want some stupid ``MY CHARACTER IS SO BAMF AND PWNZ YOU ALL!`` brands of bragging cause of how unbeatable they are and blah blah blah. Whether it's their personality that balances them out more so than their other weaknesses (Psychological FLAWS) OR their physical/other disadvantages level out the powers. Key thing is that SOMEHOW they need a sense of balance and can't be all LOL PWN STRENGTH. So again, don't just focus on how strong your character is cause we will either request changes or outright deny the app if it becomes troublesome. All about making it feel like something's balancing it all out C:
For Original Characters/Made-ups, please don't make them into a carbon copy of another character. Absolutely NO plagerizing/stealing other people's OC's.
