Some things never changed, no matter how far you travelled - even somehow ending up in a different time and reality did little to quell the urge Nicholas felt to fight, nor the dull rage he felt eating away at him from within as he sprinted through New York's darkened streets in the evening light, cradling his battle rifle in his arms as he ran. It hadn't taken long to get moving, nor much motivation - having been more or less conditioned from childhood, what he'd heard over the small police scanner he'd picked up had immediately gotten him moving. Confused chatter, gunfire in the background, mention of unknown attackers using unfamiliar technology..... Nicholas was remarkably mellow and well adjusted as far as most of Alpha Company went, even Spartan IIIs in general, but like the rest of his brothers and sisters mere mention of the Covenant was enough to get him raring for a fight, and what he'd heard over the radio was far too familiar for him to do anything but suit up, grab his sniper rifle, battle rifle, P90, Automag and assorted grenades, knives and other gadgets before heading to the scene, pockets on his armor bulging and what didn't fit taped to the armor itself. This wasn't just one of the.... hunting... trips he'd been routinely going on for the past few weeks. No, this time he was ready for war.
As he prepared to come around a building's corner, beginning to lean into the turn, Nicholas noticed his motion tracker suddenly light up red before he nearly ran into several civilians, all running in the opposite direction from whatever had the city's police occupied. Panicking as they saw a large, jet black something suddenly emerge from the darkness, the people gave Nicholas a wide berth, something he greatly appreciated as he continued onwards towards the source of the sounds he heard, the gunfire from up ahead matching almost perfectly with the gunfire he heard over the police force's radio channel he'd matched his suit's COMM system to. Almost there, then.
After a handful of minutes of continued running, passing several more fleeing civilians on the way, Nicholas slowed his pace to a quick walk, bringing his weapon halfway up and silencing his suit's COMM - there was no need for it now, anyways. He could clearly hear the gunfire without it and could clearly see what the police were shooting at from behind their cars several hundred feet down the street, littered with abandoned vehicles. Hovering above the pavement and inert cars was a craft Nicholas had never before seen - something of a relief as it clearly wasn't Covenant in origin, but still alien enough to keep the dull anger inside of him alive. While reason would normally tell him that shooting first in a first contact scenario was a bad idea, that wasn't the case here - from what he'd been hearing, the vessel and the two individuals aboard it were clearly the aggressors, and they were obviously not human. Either way, Nicholas needed no further reason to open fire, and it was the perfect scenario - cloaked in the darkness thanks to his black armor and with the gunfire up ahead more or less helping to hide him from view, he had all the time he needed to set up his shot.
Lowering his center of mass, Nicholas quickly shuffled over to one of the many abandoned cars and crouched behind the back of it, his height allowing him to steady his rifle along the top of the car's rear as his HUD suddenly seemed to bloom, magnifying the warzone ahead of him. Shifting his aim slightly, Nicholas steadied himself and slowed his breathing as his HUD's reticle, not necessary but still extremely useful, settled on the elongated skull of the closest hostile. Figuring it was better safe than sorry, especially given that this was extreme range for a BR55 series rifle, Nicholas flicked the weapon's fire select over to fire three rounds per pull of the trigger, and in turn tightened his grip. One of the semi armor piercing rounds would normally be more than enough against anything that size, especially with a head shot, but Nicholas wasn't taking any chances - this way he could get a perfect mix of firepower and stealth, without betraying his position as the sniper rifle would.
Holding his breath for a moment and completely still as the battle between the attackers and the police force continued to rage in the distance, Nicholas pulled the rifle's hair trigger once, the weapon attempting to kick up from the recoil but staying still in the Spartan's solid grip as all three rounds sped downrange towards the head of the first hostile.
