Seriously, Ruby could not wait for spring.
Not that she was particularly crazy about flowers and green leaves and obnoxious happy little children running around, but it was a lot better than the layer of snow that had blanketed the city today. Seriously, the stuff was nearly a foot deep in the places where it hadn't been shoveled away. In her opinion, everything about the cold, fluffy substance was obnoxious - the way it clung to her hair, or how it left a trail of footprints after her everywhere she walked like the world's personal 'Hey look, tracks! Let's Use 'em to Follow Ruby Around!' device, or how it stood out so brightly against her usual choice of dark clothing (dark jeans, crimson cami and her leather jacket today - not the warmest choice of clothing, but it wasn't exactly like she had to worry about freezing to death...this technically wasn't even her body). All in all, snow was just...a huge inconvenience. Though unfortunately one she was going to have to deal with today.
She'd been out. On...business. Doing a bit of interrogating, to be exact - had to keep an eye on everything that went on in this city, after all. From her new friend Jax to the various other 'interesting' sorts New York had to offer, it was always better to keep tabs on them than to leave them alone - and fortunately Ruby knew exactly where to find the sort of underground scum that usually caught wind of what was going on around here. Specifically the some of the less intelligent, less powerful non-humans this city had to offer - like the vampire she'd set up a meeting with at New York Harbor that evening. Unfortunately he'd been particularly hungry when he'd arrived, and had been a little too distracted by the scent of the still-flowing blood in her human meatsuit's body to be able to tell her much. In fact, he'd ultimately been unable to resist trying to snack on her...big mistake.
It wasn't quite cold enough for the entirety of New York Harbor to be completely frozen over just yet, but the water was dark and thick with slush. Ruby quietly walked along the sidewalk over the water, still cleaning the remains of the vampire's blood off the thick blade of her knife - beheading was always a kind of...gross way to deal with a bloodsucker, but at least they turned to ash afterward. No messy clean-up, no worrying about a body. And hunting...hunting was always beneficial for several reasons. One, hunting these creatures enforced her desired image of 'demon-trying-to-get-back-on-the-right-track'. Two? Killing things you didn't get in trouble for killing was a good release - a convenient way to channel a lot of her anger and frustration. And when Ruby was less angry and frustrated, she tended to want to make all of humanity suffer just a little bit less. So it was good for everyone, in the end...well, except for the vampire.
By the time she'd finished, though, it was already getting late into the night. Though she seemed to be alone for now, the demoness reflected that it...probably wouldn't exactly look normal if anyone spotted her carrying a knife around. So, satisfied that it had been cleaned properly, she slipped it into its little sheath and bent for a moment to tuck the weapon back into her boot. No sooner had she stored it away and taken several more steps down the pathway, however, than she suddenly felt a slight prickle...the one that usually signaled some source of dark energy was nearby. Pausing uncertainly, Ruby turned to glare suspiciously along the shadowy road she'd been just about to head down. Was there someone out there, or was she just imagining things? If she was no longer alone, it probably wasn't a good idea not to have her knife in hand - but for now she didn't move. She simply...stood rigidly, head cocked a little to the side and eyes narrowed slightly as she waited for any sign of movement...

Once upon a time there was a bubbly demoness who went by the name Tanzanite, she was pretty darn nice for someone who had an organ collection up the yin yang. Really, who would have thought someone who smiled and giggled with glee as they harvested the innards of another could be good company? Then again, there was obviously more than that, but this isn't the focal point of the moment! Not really anyway! See...she was done with one naughty little organ thief for the evening and the hospital had gotten their goods hand delivered to them. This tall demoness had to deal with QUITE the bleeder not too long ago and still had yet to go home and clean up. Why?
Well THAT was simple, she lost something on the way back! Way earlier on, she was in the area and appeared to have been missing something oh so very important to her. Those blasted organ thieves could be more of a distraction than they should be with her...especially because it was so much more beautiful when she could see for herself how that individual's flesh ridden orchestra created the music of life. Such a shame that most of them had to die....it's not like many of them could live without a liver, heart, stomach or lungs. What a bitter sweet sorrow~! Anywho, she was lurking about in the shadows...almost as though it was a pool and occasionally peeked out. So being able to see her concealed figure wasn't quite in the hand of anyone's cards.
Didn't mean it eliminated the feeling of being watched....her amber optics tinted in flecks of orange fixated upon the figure of a brunette out there all by herself. This wasn't because she found the female attractive an woooo stare fest! No no no...it was because there was something...familiar....something....warm and fuzzy about the woman who was walking about and had an expression that screamed out grumpy grump. Might be nice to say hello and see if giving her a hug would help! What did the demoness with a twisted little hobby do? Simple. Emerge from the shadow trailing behind the grumpy looking woman and make a valiant effort to give her a big ol' booby hug! The danger factor was pretty much non-existent here if that was something to be sensed considering all Tanzanite wanted to do was brighten up an unfortunate traveler's evening.
"Hellooooo~!" One of the happiest hellos just about anyone could provide the world with to someone who they just met slipped past her lips with a smile to match! Weird thing is, the way she blurted that one out was almost as though she was greeting a dear friend rather than some random individual.

Hm. So far, she was picking up no signs of movement, though she was scanning the shadows closely - maybe, Ruby decided after a moment, she really was just imagining things. Whatever. She was probably just getting paranoid. She took a tiny step back, intending to turn around - but in the next moment, she ended up nearly jumping right out of her skin (no demonic possession pun intended) when someone grabbed her from behind! Ruby's initial, instinctive reaction was complete bewilderment - in fact, she even let out a half-muffled sound that was embarrassingly akin to a yelp, no doubt an uncontrollable human reaction, of course. How had anyone managed to sneak up on her?! That had never happened before. She didn't stop to ponder it long, however, her instincts immediately guiding her towards self-defensive action. The dark demoness tensed, her hand immediately twitching towards the hilt of her knife again.
And then she realized...the pain she'd been expecting to be inflicted on her human vessel...didn't really...come. In fact, bizarrely enough this didn't seem to be an attack at all. Instead, it - well, for one blank moment, Ruby wasn't even sure what to call it - a hug? This made the least sense of anything she'd experienced in quite some time, and for a moment sheer shock immobilized the demoness as she heard the other woman speak from behind her. Things that went bump in the night, Ruby could handle. Hunters, Ruby could handle. The meanest, nastiest, scariest creatures the underworld had to offer? Ruby could handle all of them, but this - this was just way out of her element, uncomfortably so, and it was a moment before she collected her suddenly scattered thoughts will enough to try and squirm away from this strange woman's grip.
"The hell are you doing?!" Ruby snapped, whirling around to face the taller woman incredulously. She...whoa...her hair kind of defied gravity...but that was completely besides the point, back to being angry. "Sneaking up on me like that? You're lucky I didn't kill you! You're..." she trailed off, frowning. Not that she was particularly concerned for this stranger's safety - anyone that snuck up on her in the middle of the night when she was as on-edge as she was now was asking for it, as far as Ruby was concerned - but that wasn't why she abruptly trailed off. Something about this woman was off. Meeting her gaze, Ruby almost instantly got a good idea of what it was.
"...you're not human, are you?" she finished dryly at last. In fact, she was pret-ty darn sure that this lady not only wasn't human, but that she was in fact a demon, which made this whole situation even more ridiculous. What the hell would a demon be doing hugging someone? Demons weren't exactly cuddly, in Ruby's experience - in fact, they were pretty much the complete opposite. So either this was some sort of trick (or prank? maybe?), or this woman was just totally insane. Both options seemed pretty plausible right now.
