Erik had been rather against the idea of a date when Christine had proposed the idea. It had taken days of wheedling away at him until she finally had him convinced that they could go out, just for one night. She needed to leave the lair, if only for a little while, and get some fresh air. And Christine knew that if she kept asking, he would agree, if only to make her happy. And, agree he did.
Neither of them knew a thing about the transportation of this new era, and therefore decided to walk rather than risk whatever might befall them in a 'car' or whatever they were called. Christine linked her arm through Erik's as they walked, and glared at whomever decided to spare a glance at Erik's mask.
Rather than be stared at for dressing as she had at home, Christine had reluctantly opted for something a little less noticeable. Instead of a dress, she wore the most modest skirt and blouse she could find (rather hard in this era, but she'd managed it). It was rather uncomfortable, but she managed. Besides, Erik's mask attracted enough unwanted attention, she didn't need to add to that.
Luckily, the little restaurant wasn't far from the opera house, and they could quite easily walk there. Christine wobbled a little, unsteady on the shoes she had purchased to go with her dress. How women in this era walked on such high heels was a mystery to her. She learned a little more on Erik, trying to get her balance back and gave him a faint smile. "Sorry..."
Paris was so different now, full of brighter lights and more different people. Yes, people stared at Erik's mask, but not as much as they would have, had the two of them gone walking in 1800s Paris. It was very strange...and with these new automobiles making noise and people chattering everywhere, Christine wasn't so sure she liked it. This Paris was too loud and too crowded for her taste. Hopefully, the restaurant would be quieter.

The idea of going out into society was not a good one. The idea of going out into society for something like food was a terrible one, for Erik at least. He had resolved to never make himself known to society, but yet here he was... on a date. It was a strange thing, having Christine ask him to go somewhere. He realized that they were in a relationship, but he hadn't expected her to ask something like this of him. At first, he had strictly declined, knowing that leaving the lair could lead to no good. However... Christine was persistent. It didn't help that Erik knew she didn't like being locked up in the cellars of an Opera House.
Erik had already acknowledged that his mask would earn him many stares from the people of Paris. So, he hadn't needed to wear modern clothing to avoid attention. He'd simply worn a dark black tuxedo, complete with cloak. It isn't as though people would be staring at him for his clothing. Erik did wish that Christine hadn't opted to wear modern clothing instead of what she'd worn if it weren't an entirely different era. Christine was beautiful either way, but the less modern clothing simply complimented her more...
Paris was different in practically every way. Strange people, bright lights... odd automobiles. It was far from what Erik remembered of Paris, though he hadn't ventured out of the Opera House frequently, if at all. There were also far too many people... It was far too loud for Erik's taste. The two soon reached the restaurant. Erik lead Christine in through the door and glanced around. Erik had managed to... pick up some money on the way to the restaurant. The skill of picking people's pockets had proven useful, especially since their money no longer mattered.
