Metal Sonic is aggressive, power hungry and very cold-hearted. For a long time he has acted more or less as Dr. Eggman's slave, but after turning against his master in Sonic Heroes it became clear he is actually a very controlling person, who views himself as superior to others and wishes to rule over them. He is also completely obsessed with the idea that he is superior to Sonic in every way, and his ultimate desire above all else is proving to the real Sonic that he is better than him, should it be in fighting or just racing, and eventually defeat Sonic once and for all, since it is for this reason that he was created.

This drive to be better has sadly driven Metal to insanity. Proven during the metal overlord incident where in which he shouts to sonic, calling him "my loathsome copy", as well as desperately shouting "I am the real Sonic!" When he was defeated by Team Super Sonic. He also says "Sonic, I was created for the sole purpose of destroying you" Raising the question as to how Metal Sonic can both believe himself to be the real Sonic and at the same time acknowledge his existence as a mechanical copy of Sonic. This suggests that Metal Sonic's obsession with the real Sonic, and the belief that he is better than him drove him insane in the process and twisted his rational mind, making him think that since he is supposed to be the superior Sonic, it makes him the real Sonic. It can also be thought, however, that Metal Sonic thinks that even though he was created, he believes he's the real Sonic.

If given the chance, there is all likely-hood that Metal would kill Sonic given the chance. But with his obsessions and his desires to prove he is better then sonic in every way, he would be more likely to gather the power he would need to torture sonic, systematically removing each of his friends from existence.

• The True Hedgehog: Metal Sonic has many of the abilities and attack styles that sonic has, but enhanced. He can utilize the Spin Dash (albeit a far more deadly circular saw variation) and the Homing Attack, and can also jump higher and farther than Sonic.
  
  
• The power of Robotics: Metal has some major advantages over Sonic due to the fact that he is in fact a robot. Metals limbs are telescoping, stretching up to eight times their normal length. The engine that gives Metal his speed also allows flight and hovering, and finally Metal can fire laser blasts from his hands and torso.
  
  
• Engines to full: Metal can not come even remotely close to Sonics full speed, on foot. However when using his main form of locomotion Metal is able to speeds with Sonic. While sonic usually speeds about in mach 1 and 2, he tops out at over mach 40. However, Metal can active a protocol called V. Maximum Overdrive, temporarily entering a state where he can move four times as fast as sonic, pummeling through almost any matter in his way at those speeds. However doing so is extremely draining on both Metals power supply and his physical state. Staying in Overdrive longer then four seconds damages Metal, longer then nine would probably destroy the metal hedgehog. Metal uses this protocol very sparingly due to the stress it puts on his body, either only as a means of last escape or last attack. If metal is using the Overdrive, it means he has nothing else left.
  
  
• Black Shield: Metal can erect a black tinted energy diamond to protect himself, he can only use this defense so much before the power cells it relies on are drained. The Black Shield can be held for a maximum duration of three minutes before the cells must be recharged. The energy field uses a matter refraction method of defense, repelling any form of matter and energy that is not moving faster then mach 3. Making most forms of attack useless against Metal while the barrier is up save for Sonic tackling Metal.
  
  
• Chaos Control: After the Metal Overlord incident, Robotnik removed the unique hardware that allowed metal to scan living matter and integrate powers and abilities into his own systems, deeming it to dangerous in Metals hands if he evolved any further then he had. Taking with it almost all the abilities Metal had stolen from others. However he was able to retain the power of Chaos Control, however unlike Shadow whom was trained in it, and Sonic who is a natural with Chaos Control. Metal lost the knowledge he had stolen from shadow, meaning he can do it but having none of the control. Making the use of this power not only unpredictable, but dangerous to metal.
  
  
• The shadow of genius: While not having the mind he stole from Robotnik, Metal has learned much from being in the mad scientists shadow for all those years. Metal can make modifications and repairs to his own systems, and is a decent tactical mind. However it is a pale shadow compared to the genius he once had.
  

Weaknesses/Physical Flaws/Psychological Flaws:

• I am the real hedgehog!: The constant drive to be better then Sonic, has driven Metal insane. Even though he acknowledges that he is in fact a creation of Robotnik, he still believes himself to be the real Sonic. This insanity will not let him lose to Sonic in any way. If at any time Metal see's a way to be better then Sonic, he will do so. Even if it means abandoning or even crippling a current project. He must be better.
  
  
• All the speed, none of the traction: While Metal can move just as fast, if not even faster then Sonic. He has none of the control that Sonic does. Sonic can turn on a dime while going mach 2 and turn tight corners, Metal controls like a fighter jet.
  
  
• Laws of Robotiks: Robotnik, after the Metal Overlord incident began fearing for his life from Metal. But the metal hedgehog was too valuable of a asset to destroy, and Metal had proven he can overcome memory wipe in the past. Thus Eggman installed a piece of hardware that prevents Metal from acting hostile directly at the doctor. While this does not prevent Metal from destroying Eggmans creations and those that he rides in, it does stop the metal hedgehog from ending Eggmans existence.
  
  
• ROBOT!: Metal may have the Black Shield to protect him, but even that can not stop the magnetic forces of an EMP. Eggman was smart enough to shield Metals internal machinery just enough that Electro Magnetic Pulses would not permanently damage them. EMP blasts will paralize Metal for a few seconds to minutes, or if they are strong enough even shut him down.
  
  
• Overdrive Factor: Metals greatest power, the V. Maximum Overdrive is also his greatest folly. The damage the speeds the overdrive state sets are so fast, that the stress literally tears Metal apart. At 4 seconds of overdrive Metals armor has suffered to much stress and begins to rapidly crack and flake away. At 6 seconds his structure begins to fail, limbs breaking apart as he hurtles at unimaginable speeds. at 8 seconds the stress becomes to much for the engine itself as the protective housing begins to crack. Finally at 11 seconds the stress is just too much and the engine collapses in on itself, going critical and exploding.
  
  
• Magic: Metal Sonic has no defense, or even understanding of the forces of magic. The foreign element of the magic arts confuses the logic thinking robot, having no idea how to counter the powers of magic.
