Based on this.Alcohol wouldn't have been Bruce's first option when doing something of the science nature with Tony. However, the billionaire insisted that they at least have one drink to celebrate Bruce's return to New York, as well as the fact that it been a few years since the other guy leveled Harlem. Not something that Bruce would usually celebrate, but he'd let Tony have his fun. However, after a few drinks in the lab, it would seem that Tony was getting a bit tipsy. As for Bruce, he had only take a few sips of the champagne Tony had poured. He wasn't much of a liquor person, he preferred healthier drinks such as juices. However he figured he'd humor Tony and have a few drinks with him. Which was a horrible idea from the start. A drunken Banner? Or even worse, a drunken Hulk. Oh yes, what could possibly go wrong? " Tony, I zhink--think this is a bad idea." Bruce said, his words already beginning to slur due to the influence of the alcohol in his system. Wasn't there a few rules about operating expensive scientific instruments while under the influence that they were probably breaking by now?

Alcohol was actually Tony's first thought when he decided to invite Bruce over to Stark Tower. Sure, there was always the possibility of a drunken rage monster trashing the place and, y'know, accidentally breaking New York. But that's the worst that could happen, unless Hulk decided to go and destroy other stuff. Which was probably what would happen, so Tony could accidentally cause some large crisis that destroys entire cities, killing thousands, maybe millions of people in the process. But that was the worst that could happen. Probably. But, Tony was pretty sure a few drinks wouldn't make the Hulk show up. Besides, it must have been a while since Bruce had anything good to drink.
"Bruce... Bruce... you just have to learn one thing about Stark Tower, okay?" Tony said, spilling a bit of his drink as he used it to gesture around the room for emphasis. "The only... only rule of Stark Tower... is that drinking is... is... is never a bad idea.." He'd already had quite a few more drinks than Bruce, which probably explained the sheer amount of glasses strewn about the floor of the top floor. After he was finished talking, Tony turned back to their experiment and looked it over. It was a small robot, about the size of a tacky lamp. Tony took hold of a small, pen-like device and started working on the wiring inside. This was going to be the best robot ever.

Drinking is never a bad idea. Now why did that sound like a horrible idea to Bruce? One, Tony was hammered, and two, he was handling equipment that he could harm himself with. Which, put Bruce into a defensive mode over the man. How many times had Tony worked on projects under the influence of alcohol? Actually, never mind, he didn't want the answer to that one. He placed his drink down on the counter and watched Tony like a hawk.
Bruce was a little tipsy, but still stable enough to make sure the billionaire didn't electrocute himself or fall on something sharp. He wondered how on Earth Pepper dealt with this on a daily basis for the past few years. "Tony, how many drinks have you had, exactly?" Wasn't there a law about operating machinery while under the influence?

Unsurprisingly, Tony had worked incredibly complicated machinery while drunk very many times in his life. It was almost normal for him to use stuff that could kill him while completely hammered. In fact, his current state of drunkness wasn't even that much compared to when he'd flown the Iron Man armor around during a party and ended up fighting Rhodey (who was in a different armor). His ass got kicked, but there was a legitimate reason. The reason was that he was ridiculously drunk. It wasn't like he'd ever use the armor like that if he wasn't under the influence of alcohol.
Or, maybe he would. That remains to be seen. Wait, he was being asked a question. Tony placed the pen-like wiring device on the table (and in his drunken state that means he just kind of dropped it there) and turned to Bruce. "I... well, I don't know." The billionaire chuckled and turned back to the robot. He looked around the table for the wiring device. After a bit of searching he eventually found it and got back to work on the robot.
It was a small robot. Only a bit bigger than the size of a toy robot. Obviously, it was much more complex... if 'complex' means it was made by a drunken Tony Stark. The robot, if everything went well, would be able to walk around and fire lasers. Why the lasers? Because Tony felt it was necessary to give the robot lasers, that's why. It would also be able to talk or something. Tony wasn't exactly planning ahead when it came to this robot. It was just for fun, after all.

Wonderful, he'd lost count. Though when did Tony ever count his drinks? That just made Bruce take a bigger swig out of his own cup. What was he even drinking? What did Tony give him? It wasn't beer, Bruce asked for anything but beer. He never had the tastebuds for it. What he was drinking now tasted fruity. Maybe Tony caught onto Bruce's love of fruit juices and mixed it into his drink?
"I'll n-never understand you, Toneh--Tony," Bruce stumbled on his words, realizing that he had a little bit more than just a buzz.
Of course, that didn't stop Dummy, Tony's robot helper, from continued to bring him a tray of fruity alcoholic drinks....even when Bruce asked for water...he was brought Vodka. Was everything a second meaning for alcohol around here?
"So whazz et gunna doo agunn?" Bruce's words slurred as he asked about the robot. As he spoke he was trying to search for some source of non-alcoholic drink in the cooler they'd brought up into the lab. Most of it was alcoholic drinks, wine coolers, beer cans, and even piƱa colada slushies which of course were alcoholic.
Luckily for him, he'd found a singular water bottle. He immediately unscrewed the top and took a giant gulp. Water never tasted so good with the lingering fruit flavors on his tongue.

About that time, Tony's phone rang as someone was heading his way. Lt. Col James Rhodes was right now flying for Stark Tower in the War Machine armor and was looking to have Tony do some work on it. Maybe Pepper or Jarvis will answer the phone. Tony is probably drunk again. he thinks as he slows down on his approach, since he flew from Washington DC. Granted it did not take him long, but he was in no hurry once he reached the New Jersey state line.
Looking at the weather and radar on the screen of the helmet, War Machine slowed to a hover as a few jets flew a few miles from his position. Muttering, he opened the radio to the Air Traffic Control Tower in Newark. Newark Air Traffic Control, this is Lt. Col James Rhodes. I am en route to New York city and need an approach to avoid any passenger jet traffic. I am heading from the Southwest, from Washington DC." he says to them as he waits for clearance.
Once he has received the clearance and flight path, Rhodes flew onward towards Stark Tower, trying Tony's phone again. "Tony, its Rhodey. I am coming over to talk to you about something. I have a small project I would like you to do for me if you do not mind," he asks him if Tony answers. If it is Jarvis or Pepper, he will ask if Tony is there and than tell Tony he is heading his way.
