Cbox Name: ZeTick
Nicknames: The Tick
Main Account: thetick
Who else do you play on AM?: No other characters.
How did you find us?: Was invited here a long time ago, decided to take the plunge now that I’m freed up.
Category: Television/Comics
Name: The Tick
Alias: The Tick
Age: Between 24 and 40
Species: The Tick
Ranking: Hero
Physical Appearance:
Personality:
The Tick is a friendly, up-beat, optimistic, altruistic, enthusiastic kind-of guy with a strong sense of justice and doing what’s right for people who cannot do it themselves. This is often shown through his, often unsolicited, speeches where he pontificates about the values associated with goodness and justice, usually using metaphors that don’t quite make sense. While he is good with words and picks up on things quickly, he lacks any personal experience with most things people take for granted. In light of this, he engages every situation with a sense of childlike wonder. When observing an act of crime in progress, he will drop everything he is doing to noisily confront it.
Powers/Abilities:
- "Nigh Invulnerability": Almost completely resistant to damage (physical and energy), including falling from tall heights, being set on fire, being crushed, etc. Can still be knocked unconscious and/or suffer temporary brain damage with enough attacks.
- Enhanced Strength: Can lift and throw heavy objects (with a normal upper limit as a regular car), grapple things larger than him, and leap over moderate-sized gaps between rooftops.
- Can Survive in Space: Does not decompress in space, still needs oxygen eventually.
- Heroic Moments: As the drama of the situation intensifies, his other powers scale accordingly. This is based entirely on how dramatic the moment actually is and not how The Tick sees it.
Equipment:
None
Weaknesses:
- Antennae: If his antennae are damaged or removed, The Tick loses his sense of balance until they are replaced.
- Gullibility: Because of his childlike sense of wonder and tending to trust people right away, The Tick can be easily manipulated into doing whatever they need until it becomes blatantly obvious that they’re evildoers.
Psychological Flaws:
- Gullibility: Because of his childlike sense of wonder and tending to trust people right away, The Tick can be easily manipulated into doing whatever they need until it becomes blatantly obvious that they’re evildoers.
Physical Flaws:
- Needs to Breathe: While highly resistant to damage, can still drown (albeit over a much longer time frame.)
Other Flaws:
- No Memory of Past: While The Tick remembers everything from his superhero licensing onward, he has no memory of his past, including childhood, origins or important people (including family). While this does not bother him too much, it’s also something that is rarely brought up.
Brief History:
Shortly before his superhero licensing, The Tick spent some time in a mental institution where he was being treated for acute memory loss. The Tick has no memory of his past prior to his incarceration. There is speculation over whether he rejected his old life, suffers serious mental disorders, or even if he came from space and is not actually human. Any people who might know him have not come forward or, if they have, may simply be lying in order to take advantage of him. Even The Tick has no idea about his history prior to being a superhero.
After deciding that these memories were impossible to retrieve and that he had enough intellectual and social skills to endure in the world, they released him. This allowed The Tick to pursue his dream of becoming a superhero. Since his licensing, he roamed from small town to small town, fighting petty crime keeping the streets safe from roving bands of teenage vandals. However, while rewarding, this was not the kind of big-time superhero work that The Tick craved. He knew that in order to find the big evil, he needed to find big cities that could contain such evil. And so, The Tick traveled to the nearest city to jump-start his superhero career.
Reason for being on AM:
To be a light-hearted superhero that self-narrates.
Sample RP:
“He stands vigilant over the city, all things observable, nothing hidden. The sky blankets all things in darkness; the kind of blanket that is cold and provides no protection against boogeymen hiding in closets. And hidden under this blanket are bedbugs; the bedbugs of injustice! With these eyes, he looks into the beating hearts of citizens and sees that they cry out for a hero. They call out for someone to reach down and pull off those sheets and give them a good washing! With the power of good as his laundry detergent and justice as his fabric softener, one superhero will answer the call! That superhero being… The Tick!”
With that monologue completed, he leaped from the edge of that roof onto the next building, only causing minor structural damage to the building from the impact. The patrol has begun, and The Tick is on the move. Listening to the city life, smelling the fresh air from up high, hearing the sounds of cars and televisions muted by the brick and mortar, he feels exhilarated and as though he is truly connected to all things. While he has only been inside the city limits for about an hour, he feels as though he has been there his entire life. As steward of the city, The Tick basks in this one glorious, self-actualizing moment.
“Help! Someone help!” a faint voice cries out from a nearby alleyway.
But The Tick hears it loud and clear. Responding immediately, he turns his dash in that direction and, instead of leaping to the next building, crashes down into the mouth of the alleyway. Before him is a young woman flanked by three hoodlums, two of them holding wooden bats and a third holding a chain, who were in the process of taking her purse before being shocked to see this blue behemoth drop from the sky.
“You bedbugs of crime, unhand that poor citizen or face The Tick!”, The Tick shouts loudly, his arms folded in front of his chest while he stood within the debris kicked up from his landing.
The three, looking bewildered and frankly confused by what they were looking at, did not realize it when the woman yanked her purse back and stomped on the foot of the thief blocking her path. While he recoiled, she ran past him and out of the alleyway. The entire time, The Tick remained motionless and didn’t take his eyes off them. “You let her get away! Let’s get ‘im!” one of the thieves exclaimed. They broke out of their confusion and, at once, all three charged him.
The two wooden bats, which were arced toward his chest and large chin, which The Tick made no effort to evade or block, smashed into splinters against him as if they had just hit a brick wall. He grinned a little bit at this. The chain swung toward his head, but was caught before it could get there. Holding on tightly, The Tick yanked it out of his grip, knocking him off balance. In a fluid motion, he wrapped the chain around the three of them and pulled it in tight. His strength allowed him to tie it shut, thus snaring them to each other. They struggled, but it was ultimately in vain once they realized they were being picked up and carried off. “Hey! Let me go! Put me down!” one of them yelled.
“Do not worry, petty criminal. You will be released. That is, released into the warm embrace of Lady Justice. And you may find she’s not as easy to pilfer from.” The Tick responded, carrying the three of them down the sidewalk toward the nearest police station, pedestrians clearing a path. The ones that saw the fight were applauding a little, including the young woman who shouted a word of thanks from the crowd. The Tick grinned. A true moment of victory for good; what he craved. While it was still technically petty crime, he took it as a sign of good things to come.
