Basic Details
Age: 38
Species: Human
Personality:
Doctor Crane is an outwardly stoic man who shows very little emotion when dealing with anyone, even his patients. He's also very quiet, even to an unsettling level. Crane is always thinking, even planning, inwardly. It would be very difficult to find any emotion in Doctor Crane that isn't an odd sort of amused smugness. When Crane isn't being completely serious he's usually got a small smirk on his face, showing that he's amused with whatever it is you're doing or that he has some big plan for you. For instance, when talking to crime boss Carmine Falcone, Crane would always act superior despite Falcone practically being in control of Gotham at that time. Crane would later drive Falcone to insanity with his fear toxin.
Many people have observed that Crane doesn't seem like he's all there. As in, there's just something off with his mannerisms and the way he speaks. This is because Crane is actually not at all sane. He has another side to his personality, a much darker one that displays his insanity for all to see. This side, "the Scarecrow", is sadistic and cruel to everyone. He revels in fear and can't help but experiment on everyone he meets. Crane can keep this side locked up until it's needed. Crane's change in personality is usually showed by him donning his scarecrow mask... the rest of the changes are obvious. Scarecrow yells and shouts and revels in the fear of others.
Crane believes in the mind's power over the body's. Because Crane is not at all a strong man, in fact he's actually quite weak, he's felt quite insignificant for all of his life. His toxin has allowed his brilliant mind to triumph over even the physically strongest of opponents, such as the Batman. This proves that Crane does love being in power as well as bringing those who are more physically powerful than him down to their knees with his gas. Crane also tends to act somewhat rashly when he's in the position of power, such as when he rode through the night on his horse to revel in the fear of Gotham when his toxin was floating around the Narrows of Gotham City. This lead to him being tasered by Rachel Dawes and defeated.
Crane has displayed symptoms of sociopathy. The guy can watch as people scream and writhe about and actually derive pleasure from it instead of being absolutely horrified. Crane also disconnects himself from people only because he sees everyone around him as a potential experiment in the future. He's something of a scientist in that respect, if a completely insane one; he sees everyone and everything as an experiment for him to experiment on. In fact, most everyone Crane has recently met has become a lab rat to some degree. He's even resorted to selling drugs laced with his compound just to see if it would work to infuse them with drugs. He's honestly willing to do whatever it takes to get his experiments done, even if it requires murder and other horrible acts.

Powers & Abilities
Inventive Genius: Jonathan Crane is quite the genius when it comes to inventing things, particularly compounds like his fear gas. It is assumed he could stimulate whatever portion of the mind he wishes to with another compound, but he simply prefers fear. He also invented the many forms of dispenser he uses for his toxin, such as the dispensers on his wrists that shoot it in a gas-like form and the darts he occasionally uses.
Psychology: Crane is an expert at understanding the human mind and does not hesitate to use his understanding to psychologically affect his foes. Instead of having some crazy kung-fu moves, he prefers the power of the mind over the body, meaning that he can give a whole long speech about someone else's mind and all of it's flaws... But he'll get floored with a single punch.
Fear: If there's one thing Jonathan Crane understands, it's the power of fear in the human mind. He fully believes that fear is the only reason we do anything with our lives and because of that bases his life around fear. He is also absolutely amazing at using people's fears to make one big long speech about their fears and really bring those fears into the limelight.

Main/Important Equipment
Fear Toxin: A compound which serves one purpose: stimulating the fear in others and giving them hallucinations based on their fears. The compound works magnificently and has been a part of Crane's experiments for quite a while now. The toxin has been shown to be debilitating in high enough doses. Depending on the dosage, the symptoms could be over in minutes or they could be over in hours. The toxin must be absorbed through the lungs or else it simply won't work.
Mask: The Scarecrow mask is a simple burlap sack that fits very well over Crane's head. The mask serves no purpose other than looking scary when Crane is using his fear gas and being a gas mask so that his own toxin can't affect him.
And finally, a simple pistol in case things go bad.
Weaknesses
Psychological Flaws...
Obsessive-Compulsive: Crane shows some symptoms of being obsessive-compulsive, at least when it comes to his experiments. To him, they are the most fascinating thing in the world and he just has to keep going with them. He just honestly thinks they're the greatest thing in the world... in fact, the last time someone stopped his experiments, he had a mental breakdown of sorts and was shipped off to his own asylum. But that was a long time ago.
Sociopath: As mentioned in his personality, Crane is a sociopath. He can, and does, watch as people go through terrible pain and not care. Because of his obsessive-compulsive, he even wants to continue it. Crane is unable to feel 'real' emotions in the sense that he's just... disconnected from them. The only emotion he feels is sadistic glee when he's experimenting.
Sadist: Crane is nothing sort of a sadist when it comes to his experiments. He never lets up with them and never allows his lab rats a break. Why? Because he just loves watching them shout in pain and writhe about. He especially loves the power he feels when they do it and the role-reversal between the mind and the body; he loves watching the mind triumph over someone who could probably use their bodily strength to defeat him.
Physical Flaws...
He's human, and he's weak. If you can get past his gas and his personality-dismantling lectures, you can just punch him into a wall. Really, he isn't at all difficult to defeat physically.
Other Flaws...
Antidote: Yes, it is possible to create an antidote to Crane's fear toxin. Batman has done it in the past and it wasn't actually too difficult for him, though Batman is a chemist. The only problem is, Crane can upgrade his toxin beyond the antidote... But all you need to do is make a new antidote.

History....
Jonathan Crane was a child who was born into a family who valued strength over intelligence. Crane would get consistently good grades in school and his family... just wouldn't care about his accomplishments. He wasn't interested in becoming physically strong and, because of his lanky appearance and his lack of physical strength, he was mocked not only by his peers at school but his parents. But he refused to give in because of his strict resolve to value the mind over the body, unlike his parents whom he considered idiots. Because of the constant mocking, Crane became a very dark child throughout his years in middle school. The other children still picked on him constantly until one day in High School...
That day, he discovered the power of fear. A boy much older than him was approaching, planning to pummel him into the ground, when suddenly, a mouse scurried by. The larger boy was afraid of mice and, as such, jumped away from it. Crane, realizing how he could use the boy's fear, caught the mouse by the tail and threw it at him. The boy ran away in terror and at that very moment, the Scarecrow was born. Crane started looking more into fear and he spent his remaining high school years and college years studying it in great depths. He learned to truly respect the power the mind held over the body and how, no matter how strong you are, a little bit of fear can take anyone down.
Crane finished his studies, earning a degree in psychology at age twenty-four. At that point, Crane already had a plan for his life... a plan that allowed him to carry out the experiments he wanted to carry out. Crane disappeared for a few years after, travelling to the League of Shadows, who gave him a means of inducing fear into others, but only if he would go along with their plan to destroy Gotham City. Crane agreed and created his fear toxin from the rare blue flower. Now at age 29, Crane returned to Gotham with his toxin and an all-new idea for his experiments.
Crane opened up an Asylum by the name of Arkham Asylum and filled it to the brim with any criminal he could find and declare insane. In the span of one year Crane became the top psychologist in Gotham and was often consulted during court cases to help criminals plead insanity. Crane would often plead insanity for them and bring them to Arkham, where he was secretly experimenting on them with his fear toxin. After he was fully situated in Gotham with his asylum intact, Doctor Crane used some hired thugs to steal a "Microwave Emitter" that vaporizes any nearby water.
All the while, Crane had been using the crime boss Carmine Falcone as a means to having his toxin made as if it were a drug. But, when Falcone was arrested with the aid of Batman, a new vigilante in Gotham, Crane immediately turned on him and used his fear toxin on the crime boss. That same day, Crane met up with Batman while trying to dispose of evidence and exposed the vigilante to his toxin.
The very next day, Crane's plan was revealed by Batman - he'd been poisoning the water supply with his toxin. This confused Batman, who knew that the toxin could only work when absorbed through the lungs. However, Batman soon realized that the Microwave Emitter was going to vaporize the water, sending the toxin throughout all of Gotham. Batman defeated Crane easily and sent him to his own Asylum. But, Batman was too late - the Microwave Emitter was activated and Gotham became even more of a hellhole.
Crane was released from Arkham and rode through the streets on a horse, laughing at all of the terrified citizens. He was then beaten by Rachel Dawes, the assistant DA. Batman stopped the plot and Crane was sent back to Arkham, which had become a regular asylum. However, only months after, Crane escaped and became a "drug dealer". However, he was secretly dealing his toxin instead of the drugs he was supposed to be selling for experimentation's sake. Only a month into this activity he was caught by the Batman once again and locked in prison for eight years.
However, the terrorist known as Bane broke out every criminal in the jail, including Crane, who took on the role of judge in a court against police officers. He offered only two options; death or exile. However, this was all stopped... But Crane got away by means of a portal to this wacky AM dimension.
