When Ember had recovered, Terra of course wasn't there! But the dragongirl, heavy on the dragon part of her, that ancient bit that thought deviously, put a penny into Terra's pack, and hid it well in her things - not just in anything, either, but in things Terra wouldn't lightly rid herself of. Sometimes, Emily wondered how smart the dragon part of her really was on its own - she certainly didn't say much... but occasionally, she had that question answered. Like now.
Even in human form, she could follow the scent of money that belonged to her. Scent wasn't a good word, mind - she could see the trail as well as smell it, and it certainly didn't smell how a penny tasted - it was sort of a... fruity tang, bright green in color. Pennies were like that, and there was one thread of the... sense that wound out of the city. From the roof of her Uncle's apartment building in the rougher part of town, she doffed her clothes into her crisis bag, packed already with a couple extra burritos, and changed for the first time since saving Terra.
After the sore, bone-creaking flesh-stretching pain, she cried out in enthusiasm at her first use of dragon form since that day! The wind felt amazing over her scales, and even the tension of hunting down her new friend, of finding somebody who perhaps did not want to be found could not hold her down. This was what life was all about! The good feelings made it all worthwhile. Ember felt alive!
The string she followed wound and spun, through the air and across the ground, streaming in a nonpattern before the dragon. How clever the Ancient One was - she would never have thought of slipping the girl a penny! She would have to remember that trick from here on in.
The trail led Ember into New Jersey. She kept high - she could see that ribbon of light from hundreds of feet in the air - so she stayed about that high, little heed paid to the possibility of detection - compared to a 747 she was a small target and would, she hoped, fail to show on radar. Like a gigantic bird perhaps! The trail was slowing though... it had wound all over NYC, and led off then back, but it ended... below. She dove, dipping her weight forward and spiraling downward, silent and calm except for the thrumming of her heartbeat in her tympanums and the surge of wind in her wings.
She came upon a sort of... old warehouse, landing like a cat, her claws scoring shallow ruts in old concrete. Terra was inside, that much was sure. No telling what could be... so perhaps dragon form wasn't the best bet out there. She changed, shrinking to a... mostly human shape - hybrid form, tucking her wings as the twilight glinted off her fiery scales. The door yielded easily enough to her touch...
"Kui~! Terra, it's me - Ember!" she called, shutting the door behind her. The scent was... all over. Terra was definitely here... but she'd been around the room alot, and it was... a big place. That was the trouble - it was hard to put the scent into context. Just the same though, her faintly glowing eyes scanned the room for stronger concentrations of the green light that was her coin - maybe if she found Terra's things, she'd find the girl herself all in one go, too? She held up her hand, after she was confident of a complete lack of explosive dust or gasses, and created a pilot light's flame in her palm, holding it high, making it hot and bright to cast as much light as possible.
"Cmon, I brought burritos and sodas - I'm so not-mad that um... well, I'm not mad, ok?"
