This world was so interesting!
That was an objective statement - not one made out of awe or respect. Kyubey could grasp the concepts of both, roughly, though they seemed rather pointless. Emotions were always, from a rational perspective, pointless, but most sentient beings didn't care to hear the feelings they used as a crutch derided. So he stayed silent on the matter of that - if others thought him the same as them, feeling the same as they did, well, that was their own mistake, wasn't it? It was hardly his duty or the duty of his species to be responsible for so many individual lives and actions.
He had a much greater goal to work towards.
That was, of course, why he was here at the moment, weaving through the streets, invisible to the humans walking beside him. They sensed his presence enough to never take even a step too close to brush his pristine fur, but beyond that, to them he didn't exist.
Everything was so much simpler, that way. If he wanted to, he could have simply teleported to his destination - but he didn't really have a specific place in mind. All he knew was that in the confines of this city, the air thrummed with energy and emotions that could be put to use. Perhaps not just yet - everything had a time, people and situations and thoughts that were planted ripening and blooming into opportunities - but previous encounters had proven that allowing potential contractors more time to grow used to the idea increased the chances of success.
This was just exploration - an initial scout to see what there was to see and gauge the people he found. It would have been easier if there was some grand event going on, something to lure those with such promising power in, but... as it was, he just had to walk around long enough to run into someone.

Nobody ever expected to just... see the Boogeyman walking down the road on their way to work, did they? Well, little did they know that Pitch, before his imprisonment, would commonly walk down simple streets. Why? Because the ordinary people there were so filled with fear. Especially in times like this when extraordinary things were happening and nobody knew if they could be the next target of a super criminal or zombie mob. Pitch just had to enjoy the fact that everyone was so afraid of something so simple as `what happens next?`So he wouldn't attract attention, Pitch was simply lurking in the shadows of an alleyway watching the people pass by while amusing himself with their fears. There was little else for him to do besides looking into the fears of normal people.
Suddenly, he sensed something strange. Among the fear-filled crowd there was a sort of... blankness. Pitch looked through the crowd, trying to pinpoint the thing he'd sensed. Everyone seemed to be normal until he spotted something making it's way through the crowd. It appeared to be a sort of animal, like a cat or rabbit. It looked like some odd combination of normal animals - certainly nothing that he'd ever seen before. That alone was something odd. Pitch had seen most everything the world had to offer, having been on it since the first creature it had felt fear. So, it must be the result of one of the rifts that have been cropping up recently. At first they had confused Pitch since nothing quite like that had happened before.
However, he'd stopped wondering about them and simply accepted them when their presence caused his imprisonment to end and restored his powers. Pitch stepped out of the shadows, making himself visible to everyone. His appearance attracted fearful glances. People didn't know who he was, but they'd seen the news reports. They knew that the rifts had brought powerful, evil beings to their world. Pitch certainly looked the part of 'scary, evil thing that wants to kill you'. Eventually, most of the people in the street had walked away, hoping to escape whatever they thought was going to happen. Meanwhile, Pitch was making his way towards the fearless creature. The existence of a being without fear worried Pitch. Being the very embodiment of fear, Pitch knew that he had no power over this being... hopefully, it wouldn't be an enemy.
Pitch teleported in front of Kyubey and looked down at him. "...Hello." Pitch greeted, keeping his calm. The fact was that something without fear was actually a bit terrifying. After all, he had been defeated by the Guardians' fearlessness only weeks ago.

Kyubey didn't really need to do anything to detect energy - unlike humans or other species with individual bodies, his senses worked perfectly regardless of what he did. He could cover his ears and still hear, close his eyes and still he would be able to perceive motion and distance and colour. His body was really just a vessel for the consciousness after all, and what was done to it didn't hamper him at all. Still, it was good to form a habit of small motion and movements, gestures to keep him from seeming static, a doll instead of a being.
So now, his ears twitched and pricked forward, and he swished his tail in a fluid motion as a very interesting energy source approached.
There was a vast amount of potential, but it was also a static energy - it would not grow or change. That, in and of itself, denoted something different than simply a gifted human, or one of those who came through the dimensional rifts. But simply gauging by energy alone would not be enough, of course. However, he noted that the source of his sudden focus was approaching and he sat down and waited, only for the one he sought to appear right in front of him, looking down. Kyubey was not all too gifted at reading body language and expressions - there were myriad ways people expressed themselves, and compiling an adequate database took time, especially considering what different cultures and species did - so he didn't immediately try to analyse the other.
Looking back up at him, he twitched his tail and ears again, and then closed his eyes briefly. "Hello!" he said in reply, knowing full well that only this one would hear him speak. "I haven't seen you before. Who are you?" His voice, to any ears, sounded like a child's - fluting and innocent. His target radiated energy at this proximity, but thus far had shown no signs of hostility, so the possibility of conversation was rather high.
This would be interesting. He swished his tail and waited expectantly for the cues that would tell him how to proceed with this.
