Basic Details

^Age: About 500.

^{Physical Appearance:} Hallie in human form pretty much looks like your average woman. She has fair skin and long dark brown hair that cascades down her back in curls. She is about 5'5 tall, that's when she's not wearing heels. She's known for her elaborate fashion sense. This mostly consists of professional clothing when she's under cover, since she "works" as a guidance counselor. When she's a demon her fashion sense is a little darker, but still sharp. There is something undeniably classy about those black capes vengeance demons adorn themselves with after all. She is never seen without her golden pendant although sometimes she'll wear it tucked under her shirt if that's more convenient.

^Personality: Hallie is pretty good-natured for a vengeance demon. She is usually friendly and sociable, even with non demonic creatures (though she tends to look down on them a little bit). She takes her job seriously, but not TOO seriously. Work comes first of course but she does realize that it's okay to stop and have a little fun every once and awhile. She has a good sense of humor though sometimes it isn't so funny when she uses it to troll grant wishes. But over all she does have a warm personality. Sometimes she can even be kind. She has a particular soft spot for children.

But one flaw is that she has a habit of acting superior, like she knows more than most people do. She can be very condescending at times. With certain creatures (vampires, for instance) that she finds VERY far beneath her, she can even be contemptuous.

While on the job she is all business. Her human persona comes across as caring and thoughtful. Hallie is good at getting people to open up to her. She has a strong but corrupted sense of righteousness. She really believes that what she is doing is for the best (she prefers to call it justice rather than vengeance). She specializes in granting the wishes of children who she feels are abused but her definition of abused is very wide. She may feel that a child deserves vengeance for even something like being ignored (like when she tried to "help" Dawn for this reason). Despite her laid back attitude Hallie is merciless when it comes to granting wishes. No amount of violence seems to bother her, in fact she seems like she takes delight in it at times. As long as the job is getting done.

Powers & Abilities

Grant Wishes - The wish does not have to be made in earnest, it can just be a slip of a tongue. But as long it is a statement that begins with "I wish" Hallie has the power to interpret it as she will and grant it. Watch what you say around her.

Immortality - As a demon she will stay the age she is now forever.

Teleportation - The ability to travel wherever she wants, literally in the blink of an eye. Hallie likes to make dramatic entrances so she will often throw in some smoke or flashy effects to go along with it.

Heightened Reflexes - To get a hit on her you would either have to take her by surprise or be faster than she is. And shes pretty fast.

Telekinesis - The ability to move things with her mind.

Heightened Strength - Demons are a lot stronger than humans, that probably goes without saying.

Pyrokinesis - The demonic ability to summon and control hellfire, requires more energy than most of her attacks.

Invulnerability - To a great deal of physical wounds, due to how quickly her body heals itself.

Vengeance Awareness - Like any vengeance demon Hallie will be able to sense when she is in the presence of someone who is longing for revenge. Makes it easier to single out her clients.

Good with Kids - An ability rather than a power. She is good with working with kids. She's a good listener, sympathetic to their plights without babying them to much. She knows how to talk to them better than maybe even their own parents would.

The only significantly important thing is her pendant. It is a deep red stone with a golden chain, always worn around her neck. Her power source.

-Sometimes thinks too much of herself and too lowly of others. This sometimes makes her underestimate people, putting her at an immediate disadvantage.

-Has a soft spot for children. She doesn't like seeing them get hurt and will try to avoid this when she's around.

-Very over-protective of her friends, tends to butt heads with people without thinking things through whenever she feels they are threatened.

-Doesn't see anything wrong with what she does. To her, vengeance is justified. She has difficulty understanding things from humanity's perspective.

-Some forms of magic are effective against her, especially kinds she isn't familiar with and doesnt know how to combat yet.

-Can be killed like a normal human if her pendant were destroyed (that would make her mortal).

History....

Halfrek's origins aren't ever revealed in the series. However it is implied that during childhood she suffered some sort of abuse at her father's hands, probably something that eventually led to her becoming a vengeance demon since she favors granting the wishes of abused or neglected children. Like any vengeance demon she would have had to choose to willingly accept D'Hoffryn's contract to become a demon herself and join his ranks.

After leaving her human life behind she soon met another vengeance demon called Anyanka. The two became rivals and maintained that competitive kind of relationship throughout the centuries, but in time they also became good friends. Around the year 1880 Halfrek took on the identity of an upper class civilian of Victorian England called Cecily Addams. She was on an undisclosed vengeance related mission at the time that required her going under cover in the human world for some time. As a result she met Spike, or William Pratt as was his name then. Cecily became the object of William's affections, but she rejected him.

The next significant time Halfrek popped up in history was during the Russian Revolution. After Anyanka granted the wish that started it, an impressed Hallie tried to get her friend to go out and celebrate. Anyanka was far too devoted to her work however.

In modern day Sunnydale Hallie worked as a guidance counselor at the newly rebuilt Sunnydale High (that's where she's started working again today when shes under her human cover). She popped into the Scooby Gang's lives when the newly human Anya summoned her to invite her to Anya and Xander's wedding. A few weeks later Hallie granted the wish of Dawn Summers. Dawn was feeling neglected because of how busy all the other Scoobies were. Halfrek sensed this and called her down to her office at school to get Dawn to talk to her. Dawn let slip that she wished people would stop leaving her. Hallie granted this wish by trapping everyone inside the Summers residence during Buffy's birthday party, which literally ensures that no one will ever leave Dawn again. Hallie was forced to reverse the wish in the end though, after Anya tricked her into getting trapped in the house too.

She later attended Xander and Anya's wedding with D'Hoffryn and they were both there when it all fell apart. When Anya became a demon again after Xander left her, she and Hallie grew close again. Hallie urge Anya to start killing people again because the demonic community was growing suspicious that she turned "soft" and were thinking of turning on her. Anya eventually listened to her and killed a bunch of college boys, but later deeply regretted doing so. She later asked D'Hoffryn to grant a wish for her, she wished that the boys' deaths would be reversed. D'Hoffryn explained that reversing death took a lot of magic and would require the life and soul of a vengeance demon. But instead of killing Anya, he killed Hallie to ensure that Anya would have to live with the pain.

With the ranks of vengeance demons thinning lately, D'Hoffryn brought Halfrek back to work for him during present times. She does so because even though he killed her, she doesnt really have much of a choice. And she also still enjoys her work.

(Sorry it kind of sucks. Hallie only pops up in a few episodes and its hard to write her history without it sounding choppy D:)

"Well, Halfrek. It's nice to have you back." D'Hoffryn said.

He says that like he wasn't the one who sent me up in flames in the first place. thought Hallie. D'Hoffryn turned his head and rested one twinkling coal black eye on her as if he knew what she was thinking. Like she would ever acknowledge it. This was the game they played. D'Hoffryn always encouraged his demons to come to him with any concerns they had. But they all knew what happened when someone complained too much. Hallie just smiled at him widely and took care to look flattered.

"It's wonderful to be back, of course. I can't tell you how good it feels to be working in the vengeance fold again!" Not to mention alive, but apparently we're just going to pretend like that part never happened.... It was a good thing D'Hoffryn wasn't a mind reader. From what little she said you would never guess that Hallie had such an inward attitude! That was all very well, but she knew to be careful. If she had a single vengeful thought because he killed her, he would sense it right away. She wasn't sure she even wanted revenge anyway. A part of her understood that D'Hoffryn couldn't have his demons betraying him left and right. He had to make an example out of Anya, but it was a pity she was the one who had to suffer for it.

She stopped rambling when she realized D'Hoffryn just said something. She became aware that he had asked what she intended to do now that she was back. Hallie didn't even need to consider. "I'd very much like to go back to Sunnydale and continue my under cover work there." She said it like it was a helpful suggestion. Actually it was what she had been thinking of doing since she realized she was going to get the chance to work again. Sunnydale was a good town for demons. You didn't feel so hopelessly isolated in a sea of humans as you did most other places. And of course there were the children to help. They needed her along with anyone else who might require a vengeance wish.

She grinned. "After all, the high school is going to need a guidance counselor."
