Physical Appearance:

Personality:
Jefferson hasn't shown positive emotions towards anyone but his daughter Grace. He appears to have a pessimistic look on the things around him, especially Wonderland--which he has a hatred for. He's extremely negative towards things that he wants nothing to do with. A good example is when Charming finds him and asks him to fix his top hat to rescue Snow and Emma. He flees immediately and doesn't think twice about looking back at the Prince. He's also a bit of a joker, and can be extremely sarcastic at times. Many things annoy him, and he'll let it show through his body language and facial expressions. He cares little for what's going on with the other characters in Storybrook. Of course, the exception is Regina, who has screwed him over twice..and he's not too happy about that. Even things like the world they've been thrown into. He has barely any hope in anything, once stating to Emma, "You know what the issue is with this world? Everyone wants a magical solution for their problem, and everyone refuses to deal with magic."

Then
Jefferson knew that what he was doing was illegal in the matters of privacy. But that didn't stop him from peering through the telescope each day to watch the little girl next door that he knew was Grace. She may not remember that he was her father, but he remembered her and how much his heart ached at her absence.
The Curse did this, and this was the price that was taken from him. Twice now Regina had screwed him over; the first time being when she left him in Wonderland to deal with the Queen of Hearts, and now his little girl. She promised they'd be together, the lying heathen.
His fingers moved over the scar on his neck, remembering when his head had been removed. Oh yes, he'd get Regina back for that, and he'd get Grace back...somehow. If the Curse was lifted Grace would remember everything right? He'd get his daughter back and Regina would have an angry mob at her doorstep.
Now
The Curse had been broken, and everyone was beginning to realize their true identities. However, everyone else didn't mean a damn thing to him, only one person did. His daughter. He'd rushed through town when the Wraith hit, which had flipped his car in the wreckage it brought.
Charming had rescued him, but asked him something he didn't really care about. Apparently his wife and daughter were stuck in their old world and blah blah blah his hat was torn apart from the Wraith blah blah blah meaningless chatter. A portal jumper can't do much about a broken portal, now can he?
He'd run from the scene, not looking back at the Prince after flipping a table at the man. He had to continue his search. He'd looked through nearly the entire town when he made it to the town hall. Negative thoughts invaded his mind. What if she left town? What if she became like that Dwarf that became his Storybrook persona again? What if--
He froze as a small voice broke through the string of thoughts.
"Papa!"
The hatter turned to see the small figure running towards him, calling out to him. For the first time in years, love spread through his heart. Arms were thrown around him as his own wrapped around the female like the walls of a castle. Grace.
"Papa I thought I lost you." Grace mumbled into her father's chest, tears flowing down both of their faces.
Jefferson held her tightly against him, a hand gently holding the back of her head, and the other wrapped around her back. "Grace, I will never leave you again. I promise."
Something struck him as the two finally moved apart to get a good look at each other. "I've got something for you, Grace." He said, taking out the stuffed rabbit that he'd had in his car. "A welcome home gift."
Grace accepted the rabbit, smiling up at her father while shaking her head, "No, Papa, you're the only welcome home gift I need."

Powers & Abilities
Portal Jumper
Jefferson is able to activate a portal to Wonderland as well as other places in time and space. He can either enter the portal, or have something come through it. (Ex: He was able to retrieve Regina's poisoned apple, and also go into Wonderland.) However, when physically entering his hat, there is a rule. The same amount of people that came in must leave, however it does not have to be the same people that entered.
Have a Spot of Tea
Jefferson has a tendency to drug cups of tea when he's "working." He's used it on Emma Swan, as well as a Nurse working at the Insane Asylum where Belle was locked up in Storybrook.
Hatter
Being the Mad Hatter, Jefferson is skilled in hat making.

Weaknesses
Psychological Flaws...
Have I Gone Mad?
He had was beheaded by the Queen of Hearts, but was given back his body in return for information on Regina. While trying to make the perfect hat to return him home, he went completely bonkers. And who's to say that he still isn't slightly "mad"? Aren't we all?
Physical Flaws...
Mortal
Jefferson, like everyone else in Storybrook, is Human and Mortal so he can be harmed or killed.
Other Flaws...
My Grace
After being betrayed by Regina twice over, Jefferson longs to be with his beloved Grace. Before the breaking of the Curse, they were separated, and now with the Curse broken, he won't stop looking for her. He needs his little girl back. His own personal goals have also kept him from helping others, like Charming when Snow and Emma get sucked back into the Enchanted Forest through Jefferson's destroyed hat.

History....
The Mad Hatter
One day, Jefferson is out in the woods collecting mushrooms to sell and playing hide-and-seek with his daughter, Grace. When they arrive at home, they see the Queen's carriage at their house. The Queen wants Jefferson's help to retrieve something, and tells him that if he cooperates, Grace will want for nothing, but Jefferson refuses. He seems to have an unpleasant history with the Queen. While at the market the next day, Grace wants a rabbit doll, but Jefferson can't afford it. His daughter is not upset, but he begins to worry that he can't meet all of her desires, unaware that this incident was orchestrated by the Queen.
Jefferson and Grace return home to enjoy a pretend tea party, with an improvised toy rabbit he made. Deciding that he should try to make her life better, Jefferson asks Grace to stay with the neighbors while he performs the task the Queen desires from him, promising to return later, despite Grace's pleas against it. Jefferson later visits the Queen and offers his help. Jefferson spins a hat on the floor. The Queen and him jump in and are surrounded by doors. Jefferson warns her that if two people enter the door, only two can exit. They enter through a mirror and run into a Caterpillar who puffs smoke rings in their faces, prompting annoyance from Jefferson.
They arrive at a hedge maze which leads to the Queen of Hearts' castle, however the Evil Queen makes short work of the magical maze by sending a ball of flame through it. They manage to get what the Queen wants, which turns out to be her precious father Henry, and escape from the Queen of Hearts, but before they leave the Queen reveals that she is leaving with her father, thus Jefferson can't go back.
The guards catch up with him and take him to the Queen of Hearts. She beheads him, yet he is still alive. She tells him that if he wants his body back, he must tell her what happened with him and Regina. He does and he is given his body back. He is told that he needs to make another hat to leave. Jefferson is later seen making a hat, having gone mad trying to get it right, and the room is shown to be filled with thousands of hats.
Storybrook: Jefferson
Jefferson first meets Emma Swan when he is almost hit by her. Emma drives him back to his house since he appears to be limping. While inside it is revealed that Jefferson's limp was a ruse; he drugs Emma, then ties her up and gags her. When she wakes up, Emma manages to free herself by breaking a teacup and using its pieces to free her hands and finds Mary Margaret tied up and gagged in another room. Emma starts freeing her and is told Jefferson attacked her in the woods. Jefferson knows she has escaped and threatens her with her gun, making her tie up and gag Mary Margaret again. He forces Emma to make him a hat.
Jefferson tells Emma that he knows about the curse and he wants her to make him a hat that will send him back. Emma believes he is crazy but appears sympathetic. Jefferson says that it's his curse to remember his past and that he can't be with his daughter whom he has been watching through a telescope. Just as Emma appears to start believing him, she knocks him out with the telescope as he turns round and takes the gun.
Jefferson finds Emma freeing Mary Margaret once again. A fight between Emma and Jefferson breaks out. While fighting, Mary Margaret kicks Jefferson out of a window; however, Emma and Mary Margaret look out and find no sign of him. They find only his hat on the ground underneath the window, with no sign of Jefferson.
He strikes a deal with Regina to get rid of Emma by retrieving something from the Fairytale world in exchange for making Jefferson forget his Fairytale life and to be with his daughter Grace. Regina provides him with his hat and they go to the vault beneath her father's mausoleum, where they use trinkets (still filled with magical properties) to power the hat. It doesn't work, but when she gives up the ring Daniel gave her, the hat is given enough power for him to retrieve the apple that Regina used on Snow White.
Jefferson confronts Regina visiting a comatose Henry at Storybrooke Hospital, wanting to collect on their deal from the previous episode. However, Regina refuses to honor their agreement, as the deal stipulated that Emma was the one who was supposed to eat the poison apple and not Henry. Furious at being "screwed over" by Regina a second time, Jefferson threatens her by saying that their business isn't finished. Unintimidated, Regina tells Jefferson that she is "done with him" and that she knows he doesn't have it in him to kill her even if he still wants to.
Later on, in the commotion caused by Henry crashing, Jefferson breaks into the hospital's basement, drugs a nurse with spiked tea, and frees Belle from her imprisonment. When she asks who he is and why he is releasing her, Jefferson tells her that she needs to seek out Mr. Gold for protection and tell him that Regina was the one who locked her away.
