The wind that night, danced across the rooftops rattling the loose tiles, safely tucked away within his bed Hiccup curled up beneath the fur blanket that proved to be of some rather useful protection against the cold weather. Marred across his brow was a frown set deeply on his expression, he was dreaming.
Dark shadows clouded his vision as he ran without a care through the forest, his heart racing and his adrenaline pumping he tried to yell for help, he tried to find some way to fend of the dark shadows but they kept on coming, first in few numbers until they amassed to a huge dark cloud that consumed the forest.
Tendrils reached out to grasp him, snagging at his clothes as his breath raced, shouting all the time pulling at the clothes that kept catching Hiccup kept looking back, what where they? what did they want? Why would they not leave him alone and Toothless, where was Toothless! Hiccup shouted for his friend again and again, even as he kept on running, moments later his prosthetic leg slipped, the ground fell away from beneath him and he was falling, bumping and sliding hitting various tree stumps as he did. When he had stopped he was surrounded.. scrambling to his feet he ran only to skid to a stop as a large wall blocked his path. Turning around the shadows continue to advance.. faces begun to appear.. faces and animals? What was this?
As they drew closer, Hiccup backed up against the wall, again he called to his friend but there was no reply.. no sign of him. Closing his eyes tightly Hiccup raised his arm to cover his face, his hand had reached for his knife and he held it pointed into the direction of the dark shapes. Suddenly there was a loud BANG.
Startled awake, Hiccup sat bolt upright, his breathing heavy.. it was just a dream, a bad dream. Another BANG sounded, Looking up Hiccup squinted, what was that? It was only due to the sounds that he recognized it as Toothless. "Must be time to go flying." he commented as he stretched and yawned loudly, smacking his lips together in the process. The dream had certainly left it's mark of Hiccups mind but it was that, just a dream. Shaking his head Hiccup shuffled out of the bed, slipping his foot into his boot and pulling on his helmet. Now he was ready to face a new day.

During the cold, harsh night, Toothless would take to sleeping in the central hub of Hiccup's home. Curled up in front of a blazing fire, the dragon slept restlessly. Rumbling quietly in his sleep, his claws clenched and unclenched as he kneaded the animal skin rug he was resting over. It wasn't often that the dragon truly dreamed.
Scents and sounds bombarded the dragon. Trees. Forest. Mist. Darkness. His senses were confused, he could make nothing out. There was only one thing that was clear. Toothless was alone. Alone in a dark forest that expanded out from his view in every direction. At first, the dragon had merely taken to wandering across the forest loam, trying to make sense of what was happening, unaware of the counterfeit reality.
After a time, pointless wandering tipped over into frantic searching. The black form of the dragon raced through the forest, traveling quickly but going nowhere. No matter which direction he went, there was only forest. No matter how loud he called there was never anyone but him. And call he did. He shouted, roared, pleaded. In the beginning, he called for anyone, any living thing; suspicious of how truly empty the forest was. However, it was long at all before real panic gripped the dragon and Toothless began roaring for Hiccup, shouting out in hopes that his Hiccup-Friend would come.
He never came. Nothing did. What felt like hours or possibly days later to the frightened dragon, and it was still just him; alone in this dark forest. As Toothless plummeted into sadness and despair, the dragon began feeling tired. Finding an indiscernible tree like any other tree, he laid down and curled up, trying to forget his fear and loneliness. However, as he lay there, he found that perhaps he wasn't so alone after all. His ears twitched as he heard something, the call of an animal unlike anything he'd heard before; of a monster.
Toothless blinked his eyes open, drearily. Then, he heard a faint roar; reminded of his terrible dream, the dragon immediately awoken to full readiness. Scrambling across the floor, the dragon burst through the front doors of the structure. It was still far early in the morning, the sky caught halfway between darkness and light. Hearing the sound again, Toothless prepared himself for battle as best he could and looked up towards the direction of the noise.
A lone Monstrous Nightmare arced through the sky above him. Grumbling sarcastically at the irony of the situation, Toothless huffed sourly. Unable to return to the land of sleep, the Night Fury wandered the village of Berk. He spent a time rummaging through the village and chasing the livestock, but the dragon quickly grew bored. Eventually, he found his way onto the roof of Hiccup's home, climbing precariously onto its structure. There, he lay in wait for the dawn of the morning. Shaking the remaining drowsiness from his body, Toothless reasoned that if he didn't wake the Viking up, then nothing would rouse him. Besides, the Night Fury still felt restless after that dream. The dragon was itching to do something; he wanted to fly. When the sky turned reasonably bright, Toothless shook himself. His rear end wobbling, as if he were about to leap over a chasm, the dragon hopped into the air and came crashing down onto the roof. His ear flaps twitched as he heard a faint crash within, but repeated the motion, punctuating the second action with a groggy roar. Wake up, he said. Get up, get up, now!

BANG, there it was again. The whole house shook, small specks of dust and timber sprinkled down around him. Awake, Hiccup sighed and climbed out of bed, who would of thought that looking after a dragon was so demanding? In fact when did dragons become so demanding. Again the room trembled "Alright, Alright I'm up!" he called as he pulled on his clothes, he hoped such a noise hadn't woken his father up. Saying that Stoick could sleep through a tornado given half the chance. Pulling on his one boot, Hiccup made his way towards the door.
Urgh he wished spring would just hurry up already. Pulling his vest tighter around him to trap in some of the warmth he headed outside. The bitter morning wind danced across his face, causing his cheeks to turn rosy in color. Hiccup, thankfully was used to such cold weather, Vikings didn't get cold, and they didn't complain. Heading out side the snow was thick on the ground, small droplets of water dripped from the roof. Well it was warmer by a few degrees compared to normal, and the snow was gradually melting that had to be a good sign right? Rounding the corner, Hiccup cast his gaze up towards the roof, where Toothless sat waiting, and slowly heading back down.
"Alright Mrs bossy.. shesh. I'm up." He stated as he patted his hands together in order to keep the circulation going. It was just then he noticed how early it was. The sun was barely up in the sky, these morning flights were getting earlier and earlier. With a sigh, his breath left him in a small vapor cloud, as he glanced around, it was quiet, everyone was still in bed, just how early was he up? As Toothless came back to the ground, laughing somewhat at Hiccups disheveled appearance somewhat, Hiccup laughed or cackled back. It wasn't THAT funny, the great thing about Toothless compared to the other was the fact Toothless and he understood one another through words or expressions. They shared a bond that none of the other would ever have.
However, as great as he was, he was extreamly stubborn, and often only did things when it suited him, thankfully however; Toothless had very little temper tantrums. Before he could stop himself worlds flew from his mouth as smoothly as the roars and warbles of other dragons. "You know, we really need to sort out a time routine.. it's getting earlier and earlier." He huffed, sure he didn't mind but he would also like some form of sleep. They went out flying together three times a day, morning, afternoon and evening straight before bed. Then there was the flying in between but then tended to be shorter flights than the others. Stepping towards Toothless, Hiccup misjudged a rather icy patch of snow in which his prosthetic leg naturally failed him, flaying his arms around he windmilled them in attempt to regain his balance only to then loose it and head straight towards the floor...[/blockquote]

A deep, rumbling purr resounded through Toothless's throat as he heard his Hiccup-Friend awaken from inside. Moving the the rim of the house's roof, the dragon watched as a somewhat scrawny figure emerged. Mouth agape, a noise reverberated from the depths of the dragon's maw. It was a peculiar noise; seemingly caught halfway between language and laughter. What was clear was that Toothless was amused by the human's appearance; and there was a noticeable mention of dragon dung. The Night Fury had already reasoned that, perhaps, he'd roused the Viking just a tad too early.
Nevertheless, Toothless wanted to fly. Climbing steadily down the structure, the dragon made his way to his companion. He listened to his Hiccup-Friend's complaint, but paid it no heed. Toothless let out a derisive snort. Routines are boring, he warbled. What fun comes from planning out every moment of your life? Although, he did feel a stab of guilt; the dragon hadn't planned to wake so early in the morn. That dream was to blame. It left Toothless anxious and itching to take to the sky. He didn't care where they flew, they could go anywhere; as long as they were in the air.
Toothless was snapped out of his thoughts, however, when he heard the clack of Hiccup's synthetic foot followed quickly by a faint, sliding screech. Immediately recognizing the noise for what it was, Toothless reacted quickly. His claws dug softly into the ice to stabilize himself, hooking into the surface of the ice so that he would not slip as well, as he darted forward. Speeding forward, Toothless kept his head low to the ground. Positioned so, he was in the perfect angle to catch Hiccup on his snout as the boy fell. The dragon made sure his Hiccup-Friend had a firm grasp of his form before he slowly lifted his head to right Hiccup.
The Night Fury stayed close to the Viking until he was assured that the boy regained his footing. Worry echoed through his throat as Toothless warbled to his companion. You should take more caution; search thicker white-dust for hidden ice-earth. Fearing another accident, Toothless released a gush of fire and melted the snow and ice around Hiccup's immediate vicinity. Satisfied, the dragon huffed before sprinting off. Momentarily leaving his Hiccup-Friend, the Night Fury wormed his way into the nearby stables. He only needed seconds of searching before he pulled his favored saddle from the building.
Setting the harness down heavily, Toothless looked to Hiccup, tail swayed excitedly behind him as his tongue lolled out of a toothless grin.

yeah, yeah Toothless could laugh all that he wanted..it wasn't THAT funny, returning the noise as if to say 'ha ha' Hiccup watched as his friend bounded back down to the ground and approached him, and in turn Hiccup approached him, only to loose the balance and grip from his false leg that sent him flying forwards, thankfully; Toothless caught him, and saved him from the rather hard impact he had expected to receive. With a slight nudge, Toothless propped Hiccup upright once again, finding his feet Hiccup smiled towards his friend, his heart pounded loudly within his chest. In response for his gratitude, Hiccup gave his friend a small scratch upon the back of his friends neck the one part that was often hard to reach.
When Toothless complained about the idea of routines, and planning everything out, he could see sense in it. What was the point of planning out everything? Every single moment of your day, month, year? There wasn't one.. not really. Smiling at his friends wisdom, surprised at it Hiccup replied. "True.. there is no point but it's nice to have some form of direction.." Hiccup retorted, that was also true.. by planning out each moment of your life, into a routine then at least you knew where you were actually going; or where your life or fate was taking you. People often chose what path they walked down.. sometimes they'd take a wrong turn but continue down it any way.. that was the beauty of living. Hiccup watched at that moment as Toothless went and melted the ice around the two of them, he wasn't to sure if that would help the situation or make it worse, but he appreciated the gesture none the less, even as his friend stated the obvious. "Well, thank you for pointing that out.. stupid leg." Hiccup grumbled as he glanced down to his prosthetic leg and tested the single joint within it. It squeaked as was normal but there was certainly a small amount of resistance there, he'd have to keep an eye on that... Within the next moment, Toothless had darted off, before Hiccup could call him back to ask what the problem was, Toothless had returned within seconds, dropping his saddle and the attached harness at Hiccup's feet. Well, he was certainly eager that was for sure. Chuckling lightly at his friend's expectant expression, Hiccup grinned. He would not lie, Hiccup enjoyed flying just as much as Toothless did, it was funny really, when grounded Hiccup felt like a no body at times and useless on other time, yet up in the sky? He and Toothless were respected even admired. Up there, Hiccup felt like somebody. "Alright bud! let's do this!" with new found enthusiasm, haven finally woken up, Hiccup was ready. Just as the sun shone it's bright soft light across the glistening cover of snow. Picking up the saddle, that was perhaps the same size as his torso, Hiccup put it on his friend, and expertly buckled it up. Once done, Hiccup climbed up onto his friend's back and buckled himself into the harness.. he didn't particularly feel like loosing any more limbs any time soon. Slotting his foot in place, with clicks and clunks..it took no more than a few practiced seconds before they were finally ready to take to the sky. Adjusting his position, he petted his friend softly on the neck in acknowledgement. "Ready when you are bud!" He called, his tone normal.. despite the language the two of them shared and understood, there would always be certain things that remained the same, the communication via body language, and the normal human tongue. In all truth, Hiccup hoped that it would never changed for every single method of communication had strengthened their bond.[/blockquote]

More than eager to escape the ground, Toothless didn't even play games with his Hiccup-Friend. On the average day, whenever Hiccup would attempt to put the dragon's saddle, the Night Fury would playfully gallop about and avoid the Viking. Sometimes, they played a game of wills, if Hiccup wanted to fly so badly, he had to put enough effort into ensuring their takeoff. However, this morning held no such teasing. As the human moved about, buckling the seat onto his back, Toothless maneuvered his limbs to assist him in his endeavors.
Once they were both sure that the saddle was properly and securely fastened upon the dragon's back, Toothless ran through his preliminary flight checks. Unfurling his ebony wings, the Night Fury felt every sinuous muscle stretch, twist, and flex. Without tempting a premature takeoff, he felt a soft breeze catch in the curve of his wing's membrane. Moving from his wings down his body, Toothless rolled first one shoulder and then the other, followed by his neck. Giving his head a short shake, he released a small puff of fire. Continuing his bodily checks, he flexed first his fore-claws and then his hind-claws. His tail thumped in the snow behind him and the Night Fury rotated his tail fin to assure himself of its flexibility.
The dragon growled, short and soft. Ready! He tensed before pushing off the ground with his fore- and hind-legs. With three powerful beats of his wings, the duo had soared a good couple klicks into the air. Evening out into a soft glide, Toothless scanned the ground far below them. For just a moment, his mind drifted back to that terrible dream; being alone and trapped inside of an endless forest. Pushing unwanted thoughts out of his mind, the dragon's gaze fell on a familiar cluster of rocky pillars. Bellowing with delight, the Night Fury folded his wings and dove into a corkscrew.
There were some other dragons who viewed Toothless with a disadvantage; a rare few might even go so far as to call it a disability. Before Hiccup and the Night Fury's first meeting, the Viking had struck him out of the sky; inadvertently severing one of the dragon's tail fins. After that encounter, the human had made him a prosthetic to replace the lost fin. However, neither of them saw this as a disadvantage. Having full confidence and faith in Hiccup, Toothless utterly trusted his Hiccup-Friend with every fiber of his being. Because of their circumstances, the pair shared a bond no human or dragon could ever hope to replicate. Toothless knew, without a doubt, that no matter where he took them or what he attempted to do, Hiccup would be in sync.
Spreading his wings at the last possible second, the Night Fury caught the wind in his sails and zipped towards the mass of stone towers and boulders jutting from the water. As the first came quickly upon them, Toothless tucked his left wing in and tilted the tailfin he held control over, veering swiftly to the left. The Night Fury twisted, spun, dove, and arced through the maze of rock; some motions were his own, others were outside of his control. Even so, Toothless drove onwards, his motions rapid and precise. Breaking free from the clutch of stone, the dragon roared in unparalleled joy, releasing a bolt of static-charged fire from his maw.

What normally would of been a good five or ten minutes of playing chase with Toothless, as he tried to put the saddle on, only ended up being 5 seconds. In fact, Hiccup had even prepared himself for it, having lunged at his friend only to find that the saddle connected with Toothless's back. At any rate, Hiccup wasted no time in doing the straps up for it was clear to him at that moment that Toothless was eager to dance with the wind. What made it even more apparent was the fact that Toothless adjusted himself in order to help Hiccup saddle him up. With that thought in his mind, Hiccup wasted no more time than needed, clambering up onto his friends back, Hiccup buckled himself in (so that he wouldn't fall off).
With his metal lower limb securely fastened into the stirrup, Hiccup held the saddle front the take off was always the fastest and always the most dangerous point. Beneath him, Hiccup could feel his friend's excitement build, the tension beneath him was like a loaded spring ready to be set off. This feel, and idea alone caused Hiccup to grip the saddle front tighter, he knew what was coming next; A flight of a life time, and one that would certainly get his adrenaline pumping. "Bring it on.." He muttered. Just then like a canon ball they shot off upwards into the sky, so fast that Hiccup had to lean forwards, closer to the dragons back so as not to get caught off guard by the wind. The accent ended quickly and soon enough they were gliding smoothly, aided by the strong sea breeze.
Straightening himself a fraction, to even out his own balance Hiccup grinned, there it was again that small flutter of excitement deep within his belly. This was always the part he loved, he loved the freedom, the content sensation of flying, and with no one other than his best friend. Glancing ahead Hiccup could see the cluster of sharp jagged rocks, that stuck out at all angles. Oh yes, it was that time, it was the part where the two of them would test their level of trust and communication. The one part where they placed their life in the other one's hand; always at the end of every dive and swerve, Hiccup felt that their relationship had grown stronger. It was an odd feeling, but it was the best.
Just then, Hiccup knew already what was to occur next and within a split second down they went. Spiral, after spiral they went so fast that the breeze caused Hiccups face to tingle, his hair to billow at all angles. During the rapid plunge, Hiccup metal foot clicked in doing so retracting the mechanical tail in tune with the other tail fin. Paying acute attention to Toothless, whilst the wind whistled past his ear as anticipated, Hiccups leg clicked a second time, this time causing the mechanical wing to expand and shift so that they once again flew horizontal. With swift movements, Toothless ducked to the left, swerving just in time to narrowly avoid a rather sharp looking rock.
With the wind stinging his cheeks, causing his eyes to water Hiccup continued looking ahead, his foot shifting every now and then when required. Effortlessly the pair soared onwards, in a display of something so magical and unique that it would of left many speech less. Finally bursting free of the cluster of rocks they soared to a great height with nothing but the sky in their way. Grinning, Hiccup straightened a second time, growing taller this time. His heart was racing, and he was fractionally breathless; so as Toothless let out a bolt of fire, Hiccup in turn pumped his fist high in the air and let out an almighty "WAHOOOO! [/blockquote]

With the thrill and pure joy of flying with his Hiccup-Friend, Toothless had all but forgotten the nightmare that had plagued him. The dragon adjusted his flight pattern and settled into a pleasant glide. Lazy and content wingbeats kept the duo aloft and gifted Toothless with the ease of simply feeling the weight of his saddle and human upon his back. Although someone outside of Berk might have watched their duel with the rocky crags in worried anticipation, the bond the pair shared allowed them to harbor no fear. They were safe in the synergy of their friendship.
The Night Fury was momentarily jostled out of his reverie as a flock of Terrible Terrors flew straight into his path. Toothless released a derisive snort at them before tucking his wings in to drop a few hundred feet, catching the wind when he'd established an appropriate distance between himself and the annoying pesks. Apt name, he warbled, thinking on the classification the Vikings had given the small beasts. "Terrible" can mean a variety of things; Toothless found he acquainted it to "bothersome" in most situations.
Surveying the ground, the dragon caught a familiar sight. It was the small glade within which he'd first been trapped and then met Hiccup-Friend. On a whim, Toothless grumbled pleasantly before twisting his body. He swirled aimlessly above the hollow, gliding softly downward towards the site of that fateful encounter. Once he'd effortlessly landed, the Night Fury shook himself down lightly and waited patiently for Hiccup-Friend to dismount from his position. Assured that the boy was securely upon his feet, Toothless moved to the edge of the pond.
For a while, the dragon was content in his efforts to snag a delicious snack or antagonize the smaller creatures that wouldn’t make for a suitable morsel. However, mere moments later, something within those depths caught his attention. He couldn’t quite place what it was, but there were shivers shooting through his spine. Lifting his head out of the water, it was clear to anyone that the Night Fury was unnerved by something. Toothless backpedaled slowly from the lake, keeping a wary eye on its crystalline surface. Glancing at the boy and giving a jerk of his head and a snort, the dragon growled softly. Something not right.
Without even waiting to make sure his Hiccup-Friend was safely secured to his back, Toothless tensed before leaping and diving straight into the lake. Using his wings as oars, the Night Fury swam to the very depths of the lake, implementing underwater rocks and formations to help propel him further. He swam and swam, following the path he'd sought when he'd spotted that bizarre and inexplicable sight. Toothless gave a help of shock when he suddenly felt his gut twist and lurch, feeling as if something had hooked itself on his nose and was pulling him forward.
Throughout it all, Toothless continued swimming. However, something had changed; he was no longer swimming down into the lake. The Night Fury came to this realization moments before he broke the surface of the water and landed heavily onto the soft ground. Feeling the contents of his skull still spinning, Toothless rested there for a moment before getting to his feet with only minimal shakiness. As he looked about him, both to make sure he had not lost Hiccup-Friend as well as to catch his bearings, he gave a confused warble with just a twinge of fear.
Toothless had no idea where he had brought his companion and himself. In wary curiosity, the dragon turned his attention to the distance, where lights flashed into the sky and odd noises were carried by the wind...
