It wasn't often that Ciel allowed Sebastian to do anything beyond his duties as a butler. However, on that particular day, Ciel had received two assignments - one involving supernatural activity and one involving nobility. The Earl had decided to split the two assignments between himself and Sebastian - he would deal with the Nobles while Sebastian dealt with whatever supernatural being he was up against. It would likely be rather easy, considering what the reports.... but also highly unpleasant. The reports said that people had disappeared and, in their wake, a large amount of dogs had suddenly appeared, with no clue as to where they came from - in fact, there was one dog for each missing person.
Perhaps it was easy to see why Ciel had forced Sebastian into going alone on this assignment - dogs were such repulsive creatures, in the demon's eyes. He would have far preferred cats, or any other animal for that matter. However, there was no defying his master's orders... Sebastian simply had to discover what the strange behavior was and get it over with, without any fuss. With any luck, he would be able to get it done very quickly. Sebastian strode past houses, glancing at lawns for signs of any... dogs. If he were human, he would likely be having a hard time seeing - it was the middle of the night, meaning it was dark, windy and overall unpleasant. Thankfully, none of that mattered to a demon.
Sebastian could sense the amount of supernatural behavior in the small town... it seemed that nothing was what it seemed here. Every house, lawn and street was bustling with residual energy, as if some sort of supernatural being, or perhaps beings, had traveled around frequently. Could it be that... all of the dogs were somehow connected and, at the same time, the same sort of being? It only gained plausibility the more Sebastian thought about it. Now, he would simply have to find out how to rid this town of it's dogs.
If that wasn't a noble task, what was?
