History....

Sora was born on the small, and tiny world of Destiny Islands. Newly born, Sora's heart came into contact with Ventus' shattered heart, and the two joined together while Ventus' heart healed. This would cause Vanitas' face to resemble Sora's own.

He grew up with his best friend, Riku, and the two of them were never found very far apart from one another. The two of them were always playing around and competing with one another. One day, strangers came to the island, and one of them, Aqua, made Sora promise to protect Riku and bring him back if he ever fell into the darkness. Despite not knowing what she means, Sora agrees.

Later on, Sora tells Riku that his heart hurts. Riku tells him someone may be reaching out to him, so Sora ends up at his Dive to the Heart, meeting Ventus there. Sora allows Ventus' heart to sleep there while it heals from breaking, and their hearts merge together.

Some time after this, Kairi would arrive upon their world with no memories of her previous home. The three of them rapidly become fast friends, with Sora and Riku often competing for Kairi's attention. They promise to someday set out in search of new worlds together, driven by the mystery of the fact Kairi has come from somewhere entirely unknown to them.

Years later, shortly after Sora turns fourteen, he and his friends are working on a raft so that they can leave Destiny Islands in search of what lays beyond their own world. Just before they begin searching for the materials to make the raft, Sora ends up falling asleep on the beach, and has a strange dream about black creatures. Kairi wakes him up, and the two run off to keep collecting the materials.

During the foraging, he meets a mysterious figure in the Secret Place, who tells Sora that he knows nothing, and taunts him for his ignorance. Sora leaves shortly after, confused by the robed man's words.

That night, darkness overtakes Destiny Islands. Sora runs to the island to see Riku being consumned by darkness, though he reaches a hand out to grab his, he cannot save Riku. Riku disappears, but before Sora is swallowed up too, the Kingdom Key appears and Sora uses it to fight off the shadows overrunning the island. In the secret place, he finds Kairi, but she disappears. After being forced outside and encountering a Darkside, Sora is swept away into Traverse Town.

In this mysterious town, Sora encounters several people who explain the Keyblade, and the Heartless to him. Hoping to run across Riku or Kairi, Sora explores the town and meets two of King Mickey's soldiers, Donald and Goofy. The three of them fight off a Heartless, and agree to look for the king, who has gone missing, together.

After exploring several worlds and sealing their keyholes without a trace of either of his friends, Sora finds himself back in Traverse Town. He finds Riku, and is wonderfully happy to see that his friend is okay, although the former is acting somewhat strangely. Sora wants Riku to travel with them, but before a decision can be made, Riku has already disappeared, and the three of them resume their journey.

Finally, things come to a head in Neverland with Riku. They'd encountered him several times before now as they journeyed through the worlds, but Riku had never acted as he did now. He attacks Sora, trying to imprison him while gloating about having found Kairi before Sora did. Sora escapes and defeats Captain Hook, leaving the world for the next-- Hollow Bastion.

It was here in this world that everything would finally be properly explained to Sora. Here, Riku attacked Sora again, taking his Keyblade away from him. Sora is at first at a loss and heartbroken when Donald and Goofy leave him behind to go with Riku, but after traveling with the Beast, he is able to reclaim the Keyblade as his own through the strength of his heart. They head through the castle and defeat Maleficent, who revealed that she had been manipulating Riku this entire time. She was the one who had turned Riku against his best friend.

Sora encounters Riku a final time, along with Kairi. He attempts to wake her up but Riku informs him it won't work. Kairi's heart is sleeping inside of Sora's, and until he returns it to her, she'll never wake up. Using the keyblade of people's hearts, Riku intends to strike down Sora, but Sora fights back. He defeats Riku in battle, but it is revealed that Ansem has possessed Riku.

After Ansem-Riku's defeat, Sora frees both his heart, and Kairi's, which results in him becoming a heartless. However, Kairi is able to return him to his human form, and they return to Hollow Bastion in order to regroup and escape the rapidly growing hordes of Heartless.

After being given Kairi's keychain, Sora returns to Hollow Bastion and seals the final keyhole after a fierce battle with a heartless. The princesses of heart have decided to stay in Hollow Bastion, as it was originally their home, and tell Sora that Ansem has left in search of Kingdom Hearts, the door to light.

After journeying through the End of the World, the trio find Ansem in the remains of Destiny Islands after it was consumed by darkness. They fight him, and after a fierce battle, defeat him. Desperately, Ansem tries to open the door to Kingdom Hearts, but disappears after it unleashes a blinding light. With the help of Riku and Mickey, Sora is able to close the door, though it leaves his two friends trapped in the Realm of Darkness. He makes a promise to return to Kairi, and leaves to find a way to free his two friends from the dark.

As the three of them wander about, they are led by Pluto and a mysterious man in black to a castle called Castle Oblivion. The mysterious man had told Sora, "Along the road ahead lies something you need. However in order to claim it you must lose something that is dear to you", and as soon as they enter the castle, Sora finds himself in Traverse Town with Goofy and Donald reduced to Card form.

In this mysterious castle, Sora travels through worlds of his memories, encountering many familiar faces although none of them are able to remember him. Unbeknownst to Sora, the further up he climbs in this tower, the more warped his memories he becomes. He starts to remember a dear old childhood friend, Namine, that he'd promised to always protect, but in return, he begins to forget about his long friendship with Kairi.

The mysterious Organization members, who have been constantly taunting Sora, are actually the ones who end up causing Sora to remember his promise to Namine. He becomes obssessed with finding Namine again, in order to keep his promise to her. He also wonders how he ever could have forgotten about it.

On the seventh floor, much to his shock, he finds Riku. But Riku is acting strangely, declaring Sora to be unworthy of protecting Namine, and running off after the two of them clash. Now completely confused, with no way to go but up, Sora continues onward.

In the created version of Twilight Town, Sora is warned by Vexen not to trust his memories, before he is slain by Axel. On the eleventh floor, Sora and Riku find out they share the same charm and memories of Namine, and fight again. In the memory of Destiny Islands, Sora finally comes across Namine. She begins to tell him about Kairi, but Riku interferes and Namine ends up being forced to shatter his memories. It is revealed that Riku is nothing more than a clone, created in order to lead Sora astray.

However, even for all of Namine's manipulations, Sora forgives her and promises to keep the promise he [didn't] make to her. Finally, on the thirteenth floor, they encounter Marluxia who was the heart of this scheme. Marluxia orders Namine to destroy Sora's memories and shatter his heart so they can control Sora, but Namine refuses. With the help of everyone, Sora is able to defeat Marluxia, and free Namine from the Organization.

Namine puts Sora into a deep sleep, so that she can restore his memories to the way they were before he entered the Castle Oblivion. While he sleeps DiZ and Riku work together to subdue Roxas, Sora's Nobody, so that they can regain his missing memories and finally wake him up from his sleep. Roxas, who had defeated Xion and regained Sora's memories for him, is defeated after attempting to attack the Organization. Riku was only able to defeat him by succumbing to the darkness in his heart, but the plan ends successfully.

Almost a year after Sora was originally put to sleep, he awakens to find himself in the basement chamber of Traverse Town, with no memory of how he had come to be there. Reuniting with Donald and Goofy, it is revealed Sora has become too big for his clothes, and they leave the manor behind, heading into the town itself.

On seeing Olette, Pence, and Hayner, Sora rapidly befriends them, but when he boards the train to leave Twilight Town, Roxas' memories of the three in his heart cause the young hero to shed a tear, much to his confusion.

The train takes them to the Mysterious Tower, where they find Yen Sid, and the three good fairies. Yen Sid tells them about the state of the worlds, and the three good fairies give Sora new clothes, which grant him new powers. With the gummi ship, the three of them set off to Hollow Bastion, which is being recreated after it was destroyed by the Heartless.

Sora is made a member of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee, and drives off members of the Organization who appeared to bother Leon and Sora with nobodies. Xigbar comments that Sora looks a lot like someone else, (Roxas) and leaves. Upon returning to the town proper, Sora and friends depart for the next world.

Once again they find themselves traveling through the worlds, reuniting with friends, enemies, and at one point, saving Disney Castle from being taken by Maleficent who has mysteriously returned. A return to Twilight Town informs Sora that Axel has kidnapped Kairi, and in Hollow Bastion, the situation is dire with the town close to being overrun by nobodies and heartless. However, they are able to save Hollow Bastion, and encounter the Organization once more.

Sora finds out that the Organization is just using him, to create more hearts so that Kingdom Hearts itself will be recreated. The Organization wants to regain their hearts, and are trying to create Kingdom Hearts for that very reason. Sora also finds out that Ansem was a man called Xehanort's Heartless, and that his Nobody is the one who leads the Organization.

After traveling through several more worlds, looking for the Organization's Headquarters and taking several of their plots down, Sora finds himself returning to Twilight Town. With the help of Olette, Pence, Hayner, and Mickey, they are able to enter the alternate Twilight Town, and find their way to the World That Never Was. During the way there though, Sora is ambushed by a horde of Nobodies, but Axel appears and sacrifices himself in order to save Roxas, who is within Sora's heart.

Within the World That Never Was, Sora encounters Roxas within his own heart, and Roxas tells Sora that he "is a good other". In the Castle itself, Sora makes his way through the endless nobodies and finds Kairi and Ansem there. He forgives Ansem for what he had done for saving Kairi, only to discover that Ansem is in fact Riku! Sora breaks down in tears, overwhelmed with joy to find his best friend safe from harm.

They defeat most of the Organization's members as they travel to the top, and DiZ, revealed to be the original Ansem, sacrifices himself in order to try to destroy Kingdom Hearts, and atone for the mistakes of his past. However, the explosion returns Riku to his original form, and he joins Sora in his battle against Xemnas.

Together, they face off against Xemnas, and seemingly defeat him. But as Mickey, Kairi, and the others head off to celebrate, Xemnas reappears, forcing Riku and Sora to fight him one last time. Upon his defeat, they are trapped in the Dark Margin. Sora despairs, but decides to protect the light from the darkness with Riku. However, a bottle that Kairi had sent into the ocean a long time ago appears, opening the Door to Light and allowing Sora and Riku to return home to Destiny Islands.

For a short time, everything seems to have returned to a peaceful state for Sora and his friends. But a bottled letter from Mickey reveals to Sora, that he is the "Key that Connects Everything" and he must find those connected with his heart that are suffering. (Roxas, Xion, Namine, Axel, Terra, Aqua, and Ventus.) Once again, Sora leaves Destiny Islands with Riku, heading to the Mysterious Tower.

Here, Yen Sid tells the two of them that they need to take the Mark of Mastery exam in order to become true Keyblade Masters. They need to enter the realm of sleep, and awaken the Sleeping Worlds, worlds that were left in darkness even after the defeat of Ansem. Sora and Riku head out to awaken the sleeping keyholes, their journey starting on Destiny Islands.

During the journey, Sora makes many new friends, and slowly awakens the seven sleeping keyholes. But along the way, he encounters a young man who looks a lot like a younger Xemnas, along with Xemnas himself, and Ansem. Xemnas tells Sora that his heart is a prison, an image of Vanitas briefly appearing. Sora is confused by this, but continues onward.

Later on, he encounters them yet again, and they mysteriously tell Sora that he is "not so unlike them himself." himself, much to the heroes confusion as he is nothing like a nobody.

Finally, he encounters the young man in the final sleeping world, who speaks to him once again in a mysterious manner. He tells Sora abut how he isn't part of the dream, and that Sora will meet with him again.

Upon unlocking the final world, Sora finds himself in the World That Never Was, instead of the real, waking world. Xigbar appears, attacking him and telling him that they were the ones who had been guiding Sora along his journey this entire time, slowly leading him to this place. Xigbar forces Sora into another sleep. Within this, Sora sees illusions of his friends, and Terra and Aqua.

After he 'wakes up', Sora tells Xigbar and Xemnas that he'll never join them, and fights Xemnas. But it wounds his heart, and Sora collapses to the ground, darkness slowly beginning to overtake his heart and body. The mysterious young man appears, and tells him the truth about everything.

He is a younger version of Master Xehanort, and he was manipulating Sora in order to transform him into the "Thirteenth Dark Vessel." Darkness enshrouds Sora's body, and he falls into a comatose sleep. Sora's heart sinks into the darkness, but just before it is completely consumed, Ventus' Keyblade Armor encases him, protecting him although it becomes corrupted and possessed by the darkness itself.

Sora is placed on the thirteenth seat by the young Xehanort. Riku and Mickey arrive, but is stopped from rescuing Sora by the young Xehanort and Xemnas. Master Xehanort arrives, and explains why he had done everything that he had. Rising up Sora's seat, he prepares to take over Sora's body and transform him into his vessel with a mysterious spell.

Just in time, Lea, Axel's human form, arrives and narrowly saves Sora. Xehanort's plan fails, but he promises to meet them in the promised place and fades away. Sora is brought back to the Mysterious Tower, his heart encased in the darkness and unable to awaken. Riku, who had become Sora's Dream Eater, dives once more into his sleep in order to rescue Sora's heart and return him to consciousness.

Within Sora's Dive to the Heart, Riku encounters the possessed Nightmare Armor. He defeats it, freeing Sora's heart, and when they awake, the two of them share a warm and joyful reunion with one another.

The exam ends, with Riku named a Keyblade Master while Sora is failed for being unable to resist the darkness. But the two of them performed admirably, and Sora is undaunted by his failure, congratulating Riku with joy. They prepare to start the next phase of opposing Xehanort, but Sora first leaves to return to Traverse Town. He is reunited with his Dream Eaters, and thanks them for all of their help.

It is then that a mysterious darkness swept Sora away into yet another new adventure...
