OOC/MISC CHARACTER NOTES
Cbox Name: Spartan291
Nicknames: Slate
Main Account: Nicholas
Who else do you play?: Nicholas, Samus Aran, Hei, the Meta
How did you find us?: Through the Gates, who knows how long ago.
Category: Heroes Canon
Ranking: Villain
Reason for being on AM: Because.
Basic Details
Age: Unknown, mid twenties to early thirties - has presumably stopped aging at all.
Species: Evolved human
Personality: Sylar is, simply put...... complicated. Originally raised by who he had assumed to be his mother and father (who he later discovered to be his aunt and uncle), Sylar has run the entire gauntlet between perfectly sane to batshit crazy. Having started out as a mild mannered, quiet clock maker and repairman, it wasn't until his original ability manifested at the hands of Doctor Chandra Suresh that his more well known personality surfaced. Already naturally curious creatures, Sylar's ability (Intuitive Aptitude) instilled an insatiable hunger within the man to learn more, to better understand the world around him - and driven by that hunger, he began to forcibly collect the abilities of people he met (namely by killing them and examining their bodies, usually the brain, to mimic their powers). While initially driven to attempted suicide by what his hunger for knowledge and power compelled him to do, he eventually came to accept it and even revel in the killing, although he was notably driven to nearly turn himself in upon learning that he might have been responsible for the prophesied destruction of New York, horrified that he could kill so many innocent people.
In the years since gaining his power and actively acquiring the abilities of others, however, Sylar has made a handful of attempts to reform himself and to control his "hunger", and managed to succeed for varying lengths of time before relapsing back to his old tendencies and killing again (although one of his future selves had notably reformed permanently for the sake of his son, and had controlled his hunger for years despite struggling with it on a daily basis).
Incredibly intelligent, Sylar is quick to understand the world around him and the people in it, although whether or not this is an intrinsic aspect of his personality or part of his ability is up to debate - evidence points to the former, however, as he was able to easily manipulate people into doing what he wanted when infected with the Shanti virus that suppressed his powers. Often sarcastic and of extremely dry wit, he seems to care little about social norms and has shown a morbid glee and penchant for rather dark humor when presented with violence or carnage, although he was also notably disgusted by the thought of eating someone's brain when questioned about it. Still for all intensive purposes human (at least psychologically), he has been shown to anger and grow irritated, most notably when called by his birth name rather than "Sylar", having discarded it with his previous, "ordinary" life.

Powers & Abilities
Intuitive Aptitude: Sylar's first and original ability, this power allows him to intuitively understand any system that Sylar comes into contact with, requiring little to no training for him to naturally understand and utilize powers, items and people, often far better than the original owners could. While far more complex systems (copying the abilities of others', for instance) requires him to either study them in intimate detail (examining the brain or body) or to form an empathic link (his regret over his first kill or helping Elle to regain control of her power), he is usually able to understand most of the world around him with little more than cursory inspection.
Telekinesis: His first acquired ability and one of the most commonly used ones, Sylar is an extremely powerful telekinetic. Familiar enough with the ability to use it both casually and by reflex alone, he is powerful enough to flip armored trucks with ease and little more than a casual flick of his fingers, and has demonstrated enough control over the ability to stop and deflect bullets, control several people at a time like puppets with minimal concentration as well as utilize the ability to "cut" objects at will - it was most often through this method that he removed the craniums of his victims to access their brains.
Advanced Cellular Regeneration: Literally immortal after gaining this ability from Claire Bennet, Sylar cannot be killed - any and all wounds he received will heal in a matter of seconds, and the one weak spot he possessed (a portion of the brain, which would render him permanently dead if damaged) was removed via his shapeshifting ability. A passive power which is always active, it has also ensured that Sylar will never age or get sick.
Lie Detection: A passive ability, Sylar will feel a physical sensation whenever he hears a lie being told.
Alchemy: Obtained from Bob Bishop, Sylar is able to transform any solid he touches into gold.
Sound Manipulation: Acquired from Jesse Murphy, Sylar possesses the ability to fire highly destructive blasts of sound.
Shapeshifting: Obtained during his work alongside Emile Danko, Sylar is able to change his physical appearance at will, including size, weight and build. He has demonstrated considerable control over this power, likely aided by his original ability and understanding of the human body, and has been shown to be capable of reshaping his internal organs as well, evidenced by him restructuring his brain to remove the only weakness his regenerative abilities possessed.
Disintegration: Sylar has acquired the ability to break down physical matter at will by concentrating on any given object.
Flight: Obtained from Nathan Petrelli, Sylar is capable of unassisted flight.
Empathy: Sylar is able to instinctively feel the emotions, desires and dreams of others around him.
Clairsentience: Sylar is able to see and know the past of any object he touches.
Electrokinesis: Obtained from Elle Bishop, Sylar is able to generate incredible amounts of electricity (enough to black out several city blocks at will simply by thinking about it). While originally obtained through an empathic link rather than examining her brain (and as such requiring a normal learning curve), he has since gained mastery over the ability, becoming able to quickly generate substantial charges within a fraction of a second and able to fire off extremely powerful and destructive blasts of electrons and plasma created by the supercharged air. Like Elle, Sylar is also theoretically capable of using the ability to generate an extremely powerful pulse of electromagnetic energy from his entire body at will, able to throw grown men like matchsticks as well as disable power in a supposedly hardened facility that likely had back up generators.

Weaknesses
Psychological Flaws...
The Hunger: A psychological addiction created by his first and original power, Sylar is constantly compelled to learn more about the world around him, in his case more specifically about the abilities of others - usually this involved him cutting open their skulls and "learning" through the quick and easy route. While he has made numerous attempts to reform and cannot be killed, his hunger constantly compels him to act in a relatively predictable manner.
I Am Sylar: While notably less so than in the past, Sylar has never liked the feeling of being normal, or in his own words, "insignificant", and has gone to great trouble to sever himself from his previous life. In the past he has been shown to be prone to outbursts of anger or irritation upon being called "Gabriel" instead of "Sylar", and greatly dislikes being compared to ordinary people.
Evil Is Not A Toy: In large part also a product of his ego, Sylar does not take well to being used, manipulated or lied to, and attempts to do so have always, without exception, backfired on people who have tried - nearly all of them have wound up dead shortly after, or have been forced to flee to avoid his retaliation. Like the above, attempting to do this is a tried and tested method of angering Sylar, although one recommended against.
Physical Flaws...
Still Only Human.... Well, Sort Of....: In spite of his astonishing regenerative abilities and inability to truly die, Sylar can be damaged as easily as any other human can, assuming you can work your way through his defenses. While anything damaged or removed will grow back and/or heal within moments, his body is still damaged as easily as that of any other human. In addition, he is not omniscient (not yet, at least): he can be fooled and tricked, although it takes monumental effort and cunning to manage it.
Other Flaws...
This Is Your Brain On Drugs: Like most evolved humans, Sylar's abilities can be suppressed through drugging him, although simply slipping him something and waiting for it to take effect will do nothing - they must be continuously fed into his system to keep him unconscious as he is a powerful enough telekinetic that simply removing his ability to concentrate won't do much more than weaken him. All of his passive abilities, however, will remain active.
Power Suppression: An extremely rare ability and one that has only been shown to be possessed by a single individual to date, this is Sylar's greatest weakness - with his abilities suppressed he is little more than a normal human being, and can be injured and killed just as easily as one.
Backfire: Despite possessing numerous abilities, he is not immune to the effects of many of them. Attempting to use his electrokinesis in water, for instance, will result in him receiving a rather nasty shock to his own system.

History....
Wiki, for the first and hopefully last time, because I'll be damned if I'm writing all that out by hand. To note, though, I'm taking him from a slightly alternate continuity where Hiro Nakamura did not alter the events of Sylar's time in Texas, meaning he is still a villain.
