+Defenses are those who have stepped up to defend the city in some way or another. This includes organizations or even heroes of some sort. +Current Status is what condition the area is in right now.
New York
Defenses: Marine Corps., Police
Current Status: Has quite a few safe zones, but still the occasional horde. Awkwardly enough one of the safer spots.
Metropolis
Defenses: Police
Current Status: Without Superman, this place has VERY few safe zones and it's only next to LexCorp, The Daily Planet, and Police Station. Anywhere else is a bad idea unless you can brave the zombies!
Gotham
Defenses: Police, "99 Kings", Deadlock
Current Status: With the safest places being the Police Station, Wayne Enterprises, the junk yard and...surprisingly enough...Arkham Asylum, this place is a total mess. Sure there's small safe zones here and there thanks to the brave people making that possible, but it's pretty dangerous.
Kansas
Defenses: Police
Current Status: Well isn't that a shocker? This place didn't really get hit that hard. There's still zombies and disaster but much more mellow than everywhere else that isn't an island. Oodles of safe zones, but keep a gun handy for the occasional zombies!
San Francisco
Defenses: Police, FOXHOUND
Current Status: Ah yes, the home of S-Mart! Our informer of how to deal with the undead! Not as many zombies here, don't you love S-Mart? We're sure you do C:
Silent Hill
Defenses: Police?
Current Status: Seems safe...but lots of the people are a little messed up in the head...
Other
Defenses: Police
Current Status: Islands seem to be completely infection free at this time thanks to traveling getting much more secure. The most messed up cluster is the Galapagos Islands...but that's because Kharn decided to take over and redecorate!
Japan
Defenses: Police, Army, Godzilla
Current Status: They got hit by the infection but...it's...kinda under control...just the rebuilding is going to be a pain in the butt where Godzilla was "helping".
