The streets of New York were as busy as ever, with people going to and from work or just walking around the city. With such a gathering of people, all of which were mostly likely unaware of how frequently angels visited their world, Castiel did not want to make a scene by teleporting in the middle of the city. The angel appeared in a secluded alley which, thankfully, was totally unoccupied. Castiel walked out the alleyway, not realizing how suspicious he looked walking out of a dark alleyway in a large coat. Most of the passersby were too busy with their own schedules to even notice him leaving the alleyway and those that did just gave him a brief glance before going on their way.
But Castiel wasn't focused on the humans - at least not then. He had detected the signal of a powerful demon lurking around the city, followed by several other demonic signals. It seemed that the demons were forming some sort of group in this city, which could mean nothing good for the humans. The signal was slowly becoming more difficult to chase after, no matter how much closer he got to it. It seemed the demons here had found a way to access Enochian Symbols, which could be an exceptionally dangerous weapon in their hands. Castiel knew that the only one on the side of demons who knew the symbols was Lucifer. It was troubling to know that he'd gotten crafty enough to tell some of his demons how to use them.
On the bright side, it seemed that they were certainly no experts at making the symbols. They weren't strong enough to totally keep Castiel from knowing their general direction, but they were strong enough to keep him from teleporting there. Knowing New York as he did from his travels with Dean and Sam, Castiel knew that searching all over the city for these demons would take him hours - enough time for the demons to escape elsewhere, if they learned of his presence. He would need someone else's help - someone who could detect those demons without angelic powers. Castiel began to trace other signals, hoping to find someone with such abilities.

What the fuck was that?
Coming back to life had been welcome enough, even if Lilynette was doing her best not to think about it too much, let alone actually talk about it. Mentioning anything tended to make either her or Starrk upset and besides, why complain about being alive again? It was great to not have to worry about orders or Aizen. Why not enjoy it?
She would have enjoyed it a little more if the human world made more sense. Her only real time in it before had been in that city they had all been fighting over, and this place was completely different. Everyone had reiatsu, it seemed, and most of it really different from a Hollow's or a shinigami's. And some of them were really strong - almost Espada-level, though she had only caught bare glimpses of those. Besides that, everyone here could see her, which was... not supposed to happen. Sure, she was new to the human world and shit but that didn't mean she didn't know the basics. She was a spirit! Humans didn't see spirits!
But apparently everyone here did, because the first time she even started walking around, she had people make some stupid fuss over walking in mid-air. Idiots. It had been such a pain to get out of their way without killing them, too.
The Arrancar was now perched on a roof, legs dangling over the edge and ignoring the pigeons nearby. Weird shit aside, this place wasn't all that more interesting than Hueco Mundo, but at least it had more life. Seeing Las Noches empty and barren was kind of creepy and kind of sad too, as if the Espada and the Numeros had just... never happened in the first place. Thinking about that bugged her too, so the sudden feeling of spiritual energy, and strong, was really welcome.
If Starrk had been here, he might have told her off for being restless. But he wasn't, and what he didn't know wouldn't give him more to worry about, and besides, just taking a look wouldn't hurt, right? Stretching briefly, all it took was a single sonido jump to get closer to her target, and she arrived on a roof near him with a dull, static-like sound. Leaning over, she peered down. Despite looking like a normal human... that guy definitely wasn't one. And he wasn't an Arrancar or a shinigami or a Vizard, which made no sense. But nothing really seemed to make sense anymore, so that was okay. "Hey, you!" she called out. "What the fuck are you?"

Scanning the city allowed for Castiel to sense many of the nonhuman beings there. Although he couldn't determine what some of them were, he could sense their presence. So, he sensed it when Lilynette appeared nearby him on a roof. As an angel, he was not used to be searched for, most of the time. While most monsters did hate the angels, they were also terribly afraid of them at the same time. Angels, in general, were avoided like the plague by most. Even so, Castiel knew that certain monsters and demons were confident enough to go hunting angels down. Most of the time, they were met with failure. Castiel had sensed many presences in the past, but this presence was... different. He'd never felt anything like this.
Castiel turned and saw a human-looking girl sitting on a rooftop. For a moment, the angel stared at her, listening to her words. Her vocabulary was ripe with the very same profanity Dean was fond of. Castiel had no opinion on profanity, since he didn't quite understand it. He wasn't even aware that certain religious people believed those in Heaven were against words like that. Castiel, not wanting to be noticed, walked into an alleyway. With the soft sound of rustling wings, Castiel was on the same rooftop as Lilynette. "I am Castiel." he said, showing no signs of interest in the current situation. "I am an angel."
If this had been before his travels with Dean and Sam, Castiel probably would have just ignored her. He wasn't entirely uncaring back then, but in those days he came to Earth for the sole reason of certain missions Heaven would issue. Now, even though Heaven was technically his home, Castiel was spending more and more time on Earth. He was trying to reinstate his father's own laws and reason for the angels by having them learn to love and protect the humans, just as he did. Now that he had learned more about humans, and become more human himself, he assumed that this girl could be in trouble. She was, after all, on a rooftop. That couldn't be normal.

At first, Lilynette thought he was just ignoring her, what with how he simply walked into an alley. But no, instead he just suddenly appeared on the roof with her. It hadn't had any sound to it, no movement at all - just suddenly there, suddenly here, and she tensed up, ready for a fight if he decided to cause one.
But he just... answered her question. Well, okay. Sure, whatever, she could deal with that. Talking to someone with this amount of power was much, much better than having to fight them.
She had the impending feeling that Starrk wouldn't exactly be pleased if he found out about this.
"Castiel, huh... I'm Lilynette Gingerback. Never heard of angels before. Is that teleporting shit something all of you can do?" If it was, that was a mildly intimidating thought. Sonido was one thing, but just... appearing? Totally not fair at all! She hadn't even felt him move, and the idea of him doing it again, sneaking up on her... that well could be deadly. But he wasn't fighting her now, and to be honest, he seemed a little like Ulquiorra in how... untalkative he was. And the way he was just looking at her. It was probably better than the snarling rages Grimmjow and Nnoitra could be goaded into.
"What're you doing here, anyways? People don't usually just... stand there."

Castiel was confused. Did she start a conversation with him just to talk about his abilities? He could understand why a human would be confused about his powers, but he generally thought that humans talked to people for other reasons. It seemed that, although he had spent so much time on Earth, he still had a ways to go until he understood humanity. He probably never would. "...I have many abilities." Castiel replied. It would be difficult to describe angelic abilities, considering that most humans wouldn't be able to understand the true nature of an angel. Castiel could sense that the girl in front of him wasn't exactly human, but she seemed human-esque enough for him to be unsure of how much she could understand.
When she asked him what he was up to, Castiel was totally unsure of how to reply. Telling her he was hunting demons was likely not the best option, since she might not even know what demons are. He assumed, from her being seemingly unaware of what angels are, that she was from another world. He could, however, sense that she had abilities beyond a human's. He couldn't tell exactly what they were, but they could be useful on a demon hunt. The idea of putting an innocent person in danger for his own means, however familiar to him from his time before hunting with Dean, was not one he would entertain. Unless she wanted to go with him, he would not bring her along.
"...I am hunting creatures known as demons." Castiel said. "I must find them soon, or else they'll escape." Although he was trying to tell her that he needed to go, he was totally unsure of how to do that. Although he had spent time with humans, communicating with them was still something of a challenge. They had ways that weren't anything like the angels' ways.

Tch, the only thing he told her was something she could have guessed - many abilities, and ones he didn't care to summarize to her.
Fine, be that way. She'd work out what he was capable of on her own! And he even gave her the opportunity to do so, with... whatever he needed to do. What were demons, anyways? She had never heard of them, but maybe they were like what this world had instead of Hollows... though they had Hollows too. This place was just straight up confusing, to be honest. But here was a chance for it to be less confusing, and she could gather information and help Starrk and it would be great!
Besides, she wanted to see what an angel could do. He felt pretty strong, sure, but he didn't seem to want to fight her, and if he did, well... she could always open up a Garganta.
With this clearly masterful plan in place, Lilynette stretched. "You need to find these demons, right? I'm good at finding shit, you know. I could just use a pesquisa, track them down right away - especially if their reiatsu feels as weird and shit as yours." She grinned up at him, in an expression Starrk would have instantly mistrusted. "Buuut you gotta take me along. I want to see the demons for myself."
And if the demons were dangerous too, then... well, she had sonido. Not much could mess with an Arrancar here, right? Right.

Lilynette seemed to be willing to help him. How strange that was, considering that most people would have either thought him insane or, if they somehow knew what demons were, walked away out of fear. She seemed interested in learning about demons, apparently. Castiel had no idea why, since demons were well-known among humans as murderous, terrible creatures. The truth was, in most cases, actually quite close to what humans thought of demons. They had apparently done a much better job understanding demons than they had angels.
Although Castiel didn't particularly want to bring someone as young as her along when he was going to battle demons, it seemed he had no choice. She would be able to detect them. If he didn't take this chance, the demons could leave the city without Castiel ever finding them. The angel weighed his options, hoping being hope that he could find some way to get to the demons without bringing her along. Although he could feel that she wasn't human, and that she had powerful abilities, bringing children to fight demons was simply a little too far.
"... Are you certain that you would like to come with me?" He said, hoping he could change her mind. "Demons are very dangerous, and there will be many of them. It would be best if I went alone." Hopefully, that would keep her away from the fight. To be honest, he was wondering why she wanted to go with him anyway. Most people seemed to want to avoid battle, not charge into it unprepared. Castiel would simply have to assume that the rifts were bringing in people unlike the people he was used to.

What was he being an idiot for? Her grin faltered, quickly morphing into a scowl as she rolled her eye. "You just said you need to find them. If you go by yourself, you won't find them and they'll get away! I'm not just some little kid you need to look after, you know - I said I'm going and I can handle myself!"
It wasn't as if it was her fault she had been stuck in a child form after becoming an Arrancar. No one ever took her seriously, and the way he was trying to dissuade her reminded her of that white-haired Captain, who had tried to get her to leave Starrk and go home -
Of course, then they'd died but that had been at the hands of a different one. Regardless, thinking about it made her angry, and it was all the same - people looking down on her, as if she was some weak human brat. Sure, she was at Gillian-level alone but Gillians were still Menos, still strong. She'd show him - she'd take on any of these demons and come out fine.
"So I'm going," she said again, just to make it absolutely clear. "Do you have any place closer to where they're supposed to be? My pesquisa can't cover the whole city." Maybe it eventually would, if she worked on it, but right now, all that mattered was that she proved her worth to this... angel. Whatever that was.

The angel hadn't expected his words to prompt such a response. He was unsure why it had. After all, he had expressed worry for her safety, due to her looking far too young to be fighting demons. Then again, Dean and Sam both had been trained to fight monsters from a very young age... Though whether that lead to anywhere good was up to debate. But, that was beside the point. Lilynette seemed to believe she was totally capable of defeating the demons... and Castiel needed her abilities to find the demons.
"Very well." He said calmly. Although confused by her reaction, Castiel hoped he could calm the situation slightly by allowing her to go. It was difficult, dealing with highly emotional people in situations like these. Angels, although originally meant to help humans, very rarely interacted with the people of Earth in general, mostly due to the disappearance of God and the general corruption of Heaven. Hopefully, Castiel could rectify Heaven's past mistakes by helping Earth.
"...I can bring us somewhere closer, yes." He replied. In an instant, the two were somewhat closer to the demons. As he got closer, their signals became even more difficult to find. There was no way he would be able to find them on his own now. Presumably, Lilynette would be able to find them using whatever a "pesquisa" was. It likely had something to do with her world. But, for now, all Castiel could do was wait.

Tch, what an asshole. The way he talked was all stiff, and he barely said anything to begin with - it was a bit like Ulquiorra, though at least this guy proved his face could move. So he already was an improvement. And maybe all that worry about her being too weak to handle these demons also was better - Ulquiorra wouldn't have warned her away like that.
She wasn't really sure which she preferred - the indifference or Castiel's attempt to get her to leave him alone. Maybe they both sucked equally. What kind of a name was Castiel, anyways? It had to be an angel thing. Maybe after this was over she'd have a better idea of what angels could do other than teleporting. Teleporting was pretty cool though, if only because it took no effort on her part at all. They really hadn't moved, not physically - he had just... made them move. Somehow.
Well, she wasn't going to complain.
"Okay, so just... keep standing there and being quiet, cause you seem to be good at that," Lilynette muttered, closing her eyes to shut out the annoying mess of sounds and sights that made up the human world.
It took a moment to sink into the proper state of mind for pesquisa - she had to get faster with that, seriously - and then she sent out a faint pulse of reiatsu, letting the strange feeling of the human world wash over her in response. Nothing here made sense, and that included the people. But right now, most of the strangeness was concentrated, a group of... things with wildly different reiatsu from anything she had sensed before - and not too far away. "Found them!" she said, and jumped into the air, blurring through the short distance with sonido. "Come on, follow me!"
This probably wasn't the safest option but - there had been a good chance that she would have told him where they were and then he would have left her behind. At least this way, she could be sure she got a good look.

The implications of the demons getting a hold of enochian sigils was beginning to set in on Cas. Hopefully, it would just be this one group that Lucifer wanted to avoid getting detected. If it weren't... well, the angels were not in a very good state at all. If the demons could keep them out, they would have to rely on other people to help them do their work - something the angels had never had to do in the past. Knowing Lucifer, however, Castiel assumed it was just this group. He would never let the demons have a way to keep him away.
Oddly enough, he was used to comments like Lilynette's. Dean and Sam, especially Dean, usually made jokes like that. Although it was difficult to tell what was a joke, Castiel decided to ignore it. He was already uncomfortable enough with her coming along with him to fight demons, he didn't need to become uncomfortable with her remarks as well. So, Castiel simply allowed her to do her work, waiting for a location. Although he certainly wasn't one for deception, Castiel hoped that there was some way he could avoid having to bring her into battle with him.
Unfortunately, she didn't tell him where they were. All she did was announce that she knew, jump into the air and run off. Tracking her signal was difficult, due to the nearby sigils, but he managed to follow her by teleporting. When he appeared, he was standing in a dark room, possibly next to Lilynette. Castiel turned around, spotting the enochian sigil on the wall. With a simply swipe of his hand, the sigil was ruined. He could sense the demons now.
They were surrounded.

Sonido was tiring, especially in quick bursts like what she was doing - since she wasn't Espada level, actually getting to where she had sensed the demons wasn't as simple as it might have been if she was, say, Starrk. The lucky bastard could cross so much distance in such a short period of time - but there was no real sense in brooding too much over that.
It took a little longer, but with a bit of pacing - and with the good fortune that it really wasn't that far - she arrived in a dark room, and her angel tagalong quickly appeared a moment later. She could feel the demons' reiatsu seething around them, angry and rather impressive - but she was an Arrancar.
That meant that they had no idea what they were up against.
"Right," she drawled. "So these are demons, huh? They don't seem all that tough." They couldn't compare to Aizen, of course, or even Nnoitra in one of his epic snitfits about Nelliel - that was one of the easiest ways to rile him up, just mention Nelliel and watch him flip enough shit to make a comet from - but there was a lot of them. If she had been alone, she might have been in trouble.
She wasn't alone.
Oh, and Castiel was there too, so that counted for something.
"So, got anything useful to say about weaknesses, or can I just rip them apart?"

Castiel glanced around the room, looking specifically for powerful demonic signals. Thankfully, all of the demons seemed to be of regular power. The angel frowned, listening for a moment to Lilynette's question. She would need some way to fight the demons. Castiel summoned two objects, a vial of holy water and an iron bar. "Use these. They will hurt the demons on contact." He said, handing the two items to Lilynette. Now all he needed to do was face the demons.
In one moment, the surrounding demons made themselves visible to Castiel. They were probably hoping to catch him by surprise. One of the demons immediately leaped at him, a dagger in it's hand. Castiel reached out a hand and touched the demon. In a flash of light, the demon laid dead on the ground. Several other demons began to surround him. There were more of them than Castiel had originally expected. Cas lifted a hand and telekinetically flung two of the demons across the room. They hit the wall with a sickening crunch. Their vessels had been damaged.
Castiel heard one of the demons leap for him. Reacting quickly, he turned around and punched the demon, sending it flying back into one of it's own allies. One of the demons rushed at him with a knife in hand, aiming a slash at him. Castiel blocked it with his own blade and brought his hand forward to kill the demon with his touch. Despite his own calm, he knew he could be overwhelmed by their sheer numbers. He hoped that Lilynette would be handling herself well enough.

A bottle of something that looked like water and... a metal bar. Well maybe the vial had acid in it - some of Szayel's stuff had looked innocent but proved to eat away at skin no matter your hierro - but what good would a bar do?
Well, whatever. He had more experience with demons than she did - all she needed to do was kick some ass, right? It'd be a nice change from the last fight -
The fight that she was going to stop thinking about.
Shaking her head briskly, the better to chase away thoughts about dying and what she had done, Lilynette readied the bar. Castiel was being swarmed - and doing something that reminded her of a cero to kill his attackers, though all she could see was him just touching them. She didn't have much of an opportunity to watch, though, because then the demons noticed her as well - and the first hurled himself at her, knife in hand and poised to stab it downwards.
Too bad he wasn't as fast as sonido. With another low thrum of static, she was at his back. He didn't turn around fast enough to save himself from being swatted back by the bar, and into the wall. She had expected the impact to keep him down - but when the metal had connected with skin, it was... burning.
Okay, she took it back about the metal bar being useless. But that had just been the first, and more were coming - too many to hit. She used another sonido to get some breathing space, and then let her reiatsu compress, glowing green briefly before it became an orb in front of her visible eye. Then, the cero shot outward - though if it'd be much good on these demons remained to be seen. Their bodies seemed tangible enough, and without any hierro at all, after all - surely a good cero or two would kill them, right?

Now surrounded by demons once again, Castiel realized that he needed to think of a plan. Blindly entering the room was definitely not the best course of action, in hindsight. Castiel clutched his angel blade and glanced around at the demons. Each one seemed more eager to kill him than the last. Fortunately, his angelic powers were by far greater than their demonic ones, giving him the edge against them.
Thinking on his feet, Castiel began to teleport through the crowds of demons, each time laying an exorcising hand on their back or delivering a stab with his angel blade. Both was gave him instant kills, but the demons soon began to catch on to his strategy. One of the angels grabbed his arm as soon as he appeared and attempted to hold him back. Castiel effortlessly broke free of his grip, turned around and delivered a super-strong punch to the demon's face. The demon went flying across the room, but Castiel didn't notice. He was already doing battle with another of the demons - this time, it was a knife fight.
The demon managed to hold his own out of sheer skill with a blade. Each slash Castiel sent the demon's way was expertly blocked and followed by an attack. The worst part was that the demon had managed to stay away from the angel's grip, making it impossible to touch him. Castiel quickly formulated a plan. He allowed the demon's next attack to stab his chest. Castiel couldn't feel his vessel's pain, so he simply reached up and grabbed the demon's arm. At his touch, the demon was exorcised. A group of three demons approached Castiel, hoping to gang up on him.
The angel raised a hand and dragged the three towards him telekinetically. Once they were close, they were exorcised quickly enough. Castiel turned to watch Lilynette's progress. To his surprise, she was holding her own about as well as he was. She was using her own powers alongside the weapons he had given her. The demons' numbers were definitely getting smaller, though. The two were winning the battle.
