From the west coast, to the east coast little Narret had managed to sneak on and off buses to reach the big apple itself. And even though the city was loud, and packed full of people the small child trudged on in search of her brother. But the poor child was dealing with a pain, a pain she had never felt before.
Starvation.
The poor thing had not eaten a thing since her escape from the labs, and since the only food she knew of was the grey paste that they had forced her to consume she was starving while surrounded by food. For the past three days she had been feeling the pangs of her gullet demanding sustenance, but with no paste in sight and not a soul walking by giving a care to the poor pale child she was left in her anguish.
Finally, with her starving body and all the walking she had done in the day she finally gave out. The poor thing simply collapsing in the street near an alley entrance. No one cared to spare a glance or a hand to aid the child, more concerned with their own lives to help another.
The poor girl was afraid as she lay there in the street. Afraid that those who had done such horrors to her, afraid that she would never find her brother, and afraid that this pain would never end.

It was the day after she and Deus had spent a night together, one that ended up spinning into something of a surprise for them both. A delightful surprise, however, and one that left her feeling warm and happy even as they separated for now - Deus to go off and search different places, ones where he could get to faster than Kaly could, while the Angel stayed a bit longer in the big city so she could make double sure that her daughter wasn't there.
But there was something that was bothering her. It was at the back of her mind - A painful pounding away at her wide-open Empathy. Even as she closed herself down to her normal levels of Emotion Feeling, it was still there. Someone in the city was feeling horrible things - Pain, fear, sadness... And pure starvation, going hand in hand with confusion.
As soon as she could, Kaly instantly rushed towards the painful Feelings. Her heart was pounding with hope - The signature had so many similarities to Lynn, that it could very easily be her! But as she saw the small form of a young girl laying prone on the ground, she knew it wasn't Lynn. Despite the silvery hair, the girl had too many physical differences to be her beloved child... But that didn't stop her from moving forward, guarding herself more from the child's emotions so she could think clearly.
"Hello, sweetheart..." She crooned softly, kneeling down in front of the girl. She was still awake, but just barely... Her grey eyes were gentle, soft, and affectionate, "You look like you haven't eaten in ages.... Where are your parents?" She didn't really expect much of an answer to that - Any child with living, loving parents wouldn't be out on the streets alone and nearly starved to death! But if she could bring the girl into a conversation, perhaps she could also convince her to come with her... For Kaly had already decided to take the girl to get something proper to eat.

Her vision had begun to fade, her body shutting down from the lack of food. But someone was speaking to her, has her mind clawed back to conciseness, of all the words that the woman speaking to her spoke she had only heard 'where are your parents?' Her silver haired head rose up, so that her amber eyes could look upon the one that actually spoke to her. Little Narrets eyes full of fear and pain, and now looking into Kalys own as she spoke.
"W-w-w-what a-a-are p-p-parents......." She stuttered out quietly, her voice just above a whisper. Her eyes began to tear up as she struggled to keep her eyes on Kaly. "I d-d-d-on't w-w-w-want to h-h-h-hurt a-a-a-anymore....... P-p-p-please......" The pangs in her stomach growing much stronger the longer she stayed awake and unfed.

Kaly felt her heart choking up into her throat as the girl looked into her eyes, the golden orbs looking so weak. Followed by the words she said, asking about parents and begging for the pain to go away... It was safe to say Kaly could feel tears already pushing up to the surface. But she pushed them down instantly, sparing no time to move to the girl's side.
"Oh you poor thing.... Here, let me take you to my hotel room," She implored, wrapping her arms around the far-too-thin girl, "I'll take care of you, and make the pain go away.... Okay?" She knew she should be looking for her daughter, but this young child needed her as well! She couldn't turn away... Especially with how Narret reminded her of Lynn.
"I'll make you something nice and warm to eat..." She was pulling the girl gently against her warm torso, disconcerted by how easily moved she was... How light she was. The girl was just skin and bones! Kaly was almost afraid to continue moving with her in her arms... She almost felt as if one wrong move could break a bone. But she kept a hold on her either way, unless the girl should struggle as the Angel attempted to stand.

Kaly was right to be cautious with lifting Narret, for one wrong move would probably break her. The experiments that had been done to her had left her body weak and susceptible to damage. Bruises and broken bones were much easier to inflict upon the little child. Her weight would give Kaly no problem, what with her coming just over fifty pounds.
Narret offered no resistance to Kaly as she was lifted, even if she wanted to she had not the strength nor the will. The child weakly turned her head slightly, so as to look at the one that was moving her. "Y-y-y-you're n-n-not g-g-g-gonna h-h-hurt m-m-me a-a-after r-r-r-right?" She asked, the poor child's voice containing a tone that spoke as if she were expecting to be harmed later.

"What? No, of course not!" Kaly reassured the small girl as she held her all the closer. She gave her that kind smile again, trying not to show how afraid she was for the poor dear as she began a quick, hasty retreat back to her hotel room. It, thankfully, didn't take too long to reach it, and Kaly was able to open the door while still keeping a secure hold on the delicate child in her arms.
With door closed and locked behind her, Kaly rushed to the bed and gently laid the girl on it. Room service had already come in apparently, as the bed was neatly made up. "Just rest right here, sweetie..." The Angel whispered, brushing some bangs away from the girl's face and placing a light maternal kiss on her forehead before bustling off to pull down a few cans of the tomato soup she had gotten earlier, along with a few other things.
With the red liquid warming up on the oven, Kaly took the time to pour a glass of milk. Making sure that the soup wasn't going to burn up, she moved back to the girl on the bed. She wrapped an arm around the child's back, gently guiding her into a position where she was sitting up.
"Here, little one..." She said, keeping her voice soft as she pressed the lip of the cup against Narret's lips, "Drink this... It should help hold you over until the soup is done."

The poor child didn't really have a choice in the matter of where she was to be taken, or what Kaly planned for her. All she could really do was try her best to stay awake. However she couldn't really complain, whoever was carrying her was taking great pains to not jostle her too much. In fact when she was set down with care, it was on something quite soft and fluffy. Like the grass she had felt on her first day of freedom it felt nice to simply lay there and do nothing.
However she was brought from her cloudy bliss by a arm behind her taking care to lift her slowly. She was then instructed to drink something. Her amber eyes glanced at the liquid being tipped into her mouth, seeing that it wasn't water she was quite cautious at first. The bad people had made her drink things that weren't water before, and they all had hurt terribly. She took a sip of the milk, swallowing quickly to see if it caused any pain or burning she took another. Larger then the first one, actually tasting it this time.
The childs eyes widened, holding a sheen that normally belonged on smaller children that had tasted candy for the first time. She began to take large gulps, quickly consuming the rich creamy liquid. When she finished the whole glass, Narret licked her lips clean of the remaining milk. "T-t-t-t-that w-w-was r-r-r-really t-t-t-tasty...... W-w-w-what w-w-was it?" her stuttering voice asked, stronger now that her body had something to run on.

Kaly smiled in relief as the girl drank the milk right up, probably beating some kind of record on milk drinking. She held the cup steady for the girl, pulling it away only when Narret was done drinking it. "It's called milk," She informed, slowly slipping away from the girl so she could move into the kitchen. She checked the soup, sticking a spoon in it and tasting the liquid for warmth. Satisfied, she pulled down a bowl and filled it with the creamy soup. The glass that the milk had been in was also refilled, and soon enough she was moving back to Narret's side.
"Here," She said, setting the glass of milk down on the bedside table and spooning up some of the soup to place it near her lips after blowing on it gently to make sure it wasn't too hot for the young girl, "This is tomato soup - It'll fill you up more than the milk." Considering the child hadn't known what milk was, Kaly had a feeling she wouldn't have heard of tomato soup before, either. Not many children her age (or, well... her apparent age) had gone through life without knowing the delights of milk (unless they were allergic and/or lactose intolerant)!

When Kaly parted with her to retrieve the soup. As the dairy settled in her small tummy, the child managed to scoot backwards so that her back would be to the headboard of the bed. Scooting a little further back she was able to sort of sit up on her own, the wall providing support for her. "T-t-t-thanks y-y-y-y-you" she stuttered out, her voice much clearer now, but she was still soft-spoken like as if she were afraid to attract attention.
When Kaly returned with another liquid, the child looked at it worriedly at first. The poor child looked like she thought the bowl was full of blood before her small nose caught a sniff of the tomatoey smell. When the angel presented a spoon of the soup to her, just like with the milk she took the spoonful in her mouth and her eyes simply lit up. It almost sounded like as if she had purred with the little hum of bliss that escaped her closed lips.

Kaly was worried for a minute as she saw the uneasy look on the girl's face, afraid she wouldn't want to try the soup... But she did, much to Kaly's relief, and she smiled as the girl brightened up even more.
"There we go, sweetie," She crooned, adjusting on the bed so that she could be more comfortable while still feeding the child. She couldn't say just how at eased she felt now, seeing the girl eating. The color was coming back to her face, even her sweet little eyes were lighting up! And... And was that a purr?? Kaly fought back a giggle, finding the girl to be more and more adorable as each second moved on.
"What's your name, little one?" She asked after a few seconds, when she was sure the girl was strong enough to eat and talk at the same time, "And what were you doing all alone in the city...?"

Even with color returning to her, her skin remained pale, as if kept inside her whole life. When asked for her name, a small rosey tinge overcame her cheeks, easily spotted against her pale skin. "I'm N-n-n-narret" She squeaked out, However it was Kalys next question that caused the small child to get a little sad.
"A-a-a-and I'm a-a-a-alone c-c-cause I w-w-w-want t-t-t-to f-f-f-find m-m-m-my b-b-b-brother...... A-a-a-and I d-d-d-don't w-w-w-w-want t-t-t-to be c-c-c-caught by t-t-the b-b-bad people, t-t-t-they o-only w-w-want t-t-to t-t-take m-me b-b-back t-t-t-t-there....." She poked her fingers together meekly, trying and failing miserably to hide her worries at what she had just said. "D-d-d-d-don't s-s-s-s-send m-m-m-m-me back!" She cried out suddenly, before covering her mouth. "I d-d-d-don't w-w-want t-t-to g-g-g-go b-b-back"

Kaly lowered the bowl when Narret was talking, brows knitting together. The poor dear was looking for her brother, and... And running away from bad people. Her heart ached for the child. Before she could comfort her, however, the girl burst out with a plead to not send her back. Kaly's eyes widened as the bowl was set aside next to the milk, and her arms reached over to wrap around the girl and hold her close in a secure and reassuring hug.
"Don't worry, little Narret - I'm not going to bring you to them," She said, fingers gently moving through strands of silvery hair, "I'm not going to take you back to them, or wherever they want to take you... I promise." She placed a light kiss on top of the girl's head, one hand gently rubbing her arm comfortingly, "In fact, I'm searching for someone as well, you know - Perhaps we can work together, and look for not just my daughter, but your brother as well?"
She would have no problem helping the Narret - Indeed, she and Deus planned to go to many places already once he returned and she was completely sure Lynn wasn't in New York City... If they could bring the girl with them, she would not only be protected and well-fed, but she would also have a good chance of finding her brother somewhere as well! There was certainly no harm in it...

Any more words and stuttering had been halted by Kaly wrapping her arms around the tiny child in a hug. At first the child didn't move, didn't speak, heck she was barely breathing with how alien such a gesture was to her. But as the embrace continued, and Narret began feeling the love behind such a simple act began to break down.
All of the pain, suffering, torture and anguish that had been afflicted upon her for the past four years began to shatter away from the simple love that Kaly was giving her. All of the pent up feelings that she had, simply being unlocked now that she had a shoulder to cry on. Tears fell freely from the small child's eyes as she did her best to latch onto Kaly for security, crying out incoherently into the angels fabric. Narret simply held onto Kaly, like as if her only line to reality as her tears fell from her eyes. All of her emotions running completely wild.
Such was the power of a simple hug, to one that had never felt love.

Narret suddenly breaking down was the last thing Kaly had expected - But what she expected even less was the barrage of emotions coming from her, beating down through her Empathy. The girl was shocked, overwhelmed.... Kaly knew then that this was the first hug the girl had ever received, possibly the first gesture of love and affection in general. Her heart broke for this child, and she felt her own tears beginning to spring up as the girl sobbed in her arm. So much pain and anguish in such a young girl... It shouldn't have happened. This child should have been happy.
Kaly didn't realize she had started humming when she did - A soft, sad, yet comforting and and sweet and warm melody. Narret was on her lap by then, her small and frail body curled up against Kaly's bigger one. The Half-Irish woman's cheek was resting on top of the girl's head, gently rocking back and forth as she was cried on.
"There there, my little milish..." She murmured, turning her head to place a kiss on Narret's forehead, "I've got you now... Everythin' is going to be alright."

The soothing lullaby that Kaly hummed began to take the sharp edge of her past away from her heart, taking away the pain that had been inflicted upon her so much from years past. Slowly the small shattered child began to calm down from her emotional torrent. Her red puffy eyes finally drained of the tears that had been flowing freely not too long ago. With a few final sniffles from the small child, the girl let go of her grip on the angel. It was then that the poor child let out a small eep.
"I-i-i-i-i'm s-s-s-s-s-so s-s-s-s-s-s-sorry....." She apologized, feeling that she was at fault for what had happened. "I've n-n-n-n-never f-f-f-f-felt l-l-l-l-like t-t-t-that a-a-a-and I j-j-j-just d-d-don't k-k-k-know w-what c-c-came over m-m-m-me a-a-a-and......" The poor girl kept apologizing over and over in her little whispered voice. Feeling like as if she had done something wrong.
